hi, we should find a way to make every thread about Duane... nfa

Hehe, noone to blame if your TB doesn't get logged for a while. Hi, My backpack gets logged into and out of every cache I visit...it allows me to keep a unified log of my travels...someday I'll post some pics of the various places the backpack has visited. nfa

Hi, I tried geocaching with my beagle once, but he kept popping the lid of the tupperware and catching up to me, so eventually I had to return the golf-ball. nfa

Hi, Checking out Clayjars GC Rating System is a good idea, but I find that I generally want to knock a point (or 1/2) off of each category that his system spoits out. nfa

Hi, I leave better than I take, and also leave more than I take. I like to take something from every cache I visit, not including the trash often found inside a cache. I also try to leave something for both kids and adults in every cache I visit. I have some signature items, but also tend to carry toys and coins and tools and $ store stuff. nfa

Hi, I say can as in man, but I was born in NYC, so you might have to take that into account... nfa

Hi, I pronounce it "am-oh" (with the stress on the first syllable), and I tend to call it a "can", not a box... nfa

Hi, I've offered to "babysit" (his words) a number of caches for Team Kuebbing while he is serving in Iraq...do we need to officially do a temporary adoption, or should I just look after them until he gets back? Team Kuebbing Caches Thanks, nfa

Why Can't We Place Locationless Caches
nfa replied to Shoobie & the Sand Crabs's topic in How do I...?
Actually, most require that you provide the coordinates of the location. yeahbut... I click-find the coords of the statue of liberty using topozone, and find a picture of it online without having to go there...the point being that you don't have to find a waypoint with a gps unit nfa -
Why Can't We Place Locationless Caches
nfa replied to Shoobie & the Sand Crabs's topic in How do I...?
Hi, For me the dividing line is found in the use of GPS units... A virtual cache requires the use of a GPS unit to find a waypoint. A locationless cache can be found and logged without a GPS unit, or with one without batteries in it (for those requiring photos). I know its probably not that straightforward, and I'm not advocating one way or another on the issue. I haven't logged any locationless caches yet, and don't have plans to for the simple reason that I don't see it as geocaching (an exception might include a locationless that required using my GPS, as I hear a few do). nfa -

Usually said by someone who places micros! Sorry, couldn't resist! We mock that which we find funny... nfa

Hi, I could understand the request that a virtual cache not be placed where a traditional cache could be placed, as the physical cache with a log is more in keeping with the spirit of geocaching. I have trouble with the complaints I've read in this and other threads about a micro-sized traditional cache "taking up" the space where a "real" or "normal-sized" (regular sized) cache could go. If the person placing the cache wants to place a micro, based on the thinking behind their cache (and its goal or aim), then that should be no problem for anybody (as long as it gets approved)...spaces are (and should be) allocated on a first come, first served basis for traditional caches (as both regulars and micros are). Lame caches are lame, regardless of their size...and good caches are good, again, regardless of their size. If you don't like micros, don't hunt them. There's an ancient saying I picked up in my travels..."It's not the size of the cache that matters, it's how the owner uses it." nfa

Warning: Slippery Slope Ahead!

see, I actually prefer free-range hikers, I hate the idea of eating anything confined to a cage all of its life... There is a cache located on a scout camp near me that asks that you either visit during non-scout times (which I did) or that you check in with the main office. They're camping season begins in 2 weeks, and I saw a number of people getting things ready during my visit, but I did my world famous imitation of someone who belongs, and nobody said a thing. nfa

Hi, As I mentioned in another thread, I am 2 hours away, but will gladly adopt some or all of your caches if nobody closer volunteers...I have to visit Syracuse periodically, and your caches are between my home and Syracuse, so it should work. nfa

This is what I brought when I went out this weekend: GPS Unit Water (16 ounce nalgene bottle and 96 ounce nalgene canteen) First-aid kit duct tape cell phone wallet with cash and cards and license lighter backwoods cigars printouts of all caches to be visited spare batteries for GPS and camera Leatherman Multi-tool whistle compass digital camera cache repair kit Pen, pencil, paper goodies for trade tp and tiny shovel gloves baseball cap lightweight long underwear jerky and hard candy emergency blanket 2 garbage bags, kitchen or price chopper size pre-made cache for spur-of-the-moment hiding All of this fits in a pretty small Mountainsmith Backpack, with room for TBs or other stuff as needed (yeah, it's a lot, but I got snowed on on Saturday while canoeing for a cache, and on Sunday humped about 15 miles to find another cache with the temps into the 70s, so I need to be ready for life in the Adirondacks). nfa
