  1. I've got a line on a manhole cover, and was thinking about stamping it with a set of TB numbers to make it into a huge geocoin...this particular manhole cover geocoin weighs about 200 pounds...would you move it from cache to cache? j
  2. Congratulations Brian! Great logs on the listing page... so when will you and Skigirl get up here to try this cache? Seriously though, congrats~ Jamie
  3. Here's an idea I has today while at work... "walk along the path in a northerly direction until you reach the water's edge...if there is a series of boulders leading into the water, advance this podcache to section 3 and hit play...if there is a dock, advance the podcache to section 4 and hit play..." a decision point like this could enhance the need to play the podcache in the field, as opposed to in your home, on your computer... jamie
  4. I see two problems with this. First he didnt sign the log, and second his log is a big hint which I dont want. I already encrypted it but should I delete it?? Also, the encryption doesnt seem to work on the main page-only on the view this log page. Whats up with that?? I would ask them to alter the log and change it to a note...if they don't then I would delete it. Jamie
  5. A cool use could be inside a local historic building (non-commercial, of course), or inside a cave, or deep inside a steep valley with poor/no reception...all of these could be used to place coordinates for further stages of a caches in places that have been unavailable to caching when GPS reception was a must. Jamie
  6. Hi, Thanks for the replies so far...the unit I have is very portable, so I would love to include some ambient sound clues (although they would vary by season...we'll see)....I like the radio show idea. I had planned on having the podcache start at the given coords, bump in a couple of turns using clues and such... skipping sections using coords as the next starting point would make some sense and could be done by using only the "Right of the Decimal" (ROD) numbers on your gps..."keep walking along the trail until your north coords ROD read 221 (should be about 5 minutes) before hitting play for the next clue"... I like the puzzle idea...need to peruse the environment to see what will work... Keep the ideas coming... Thanks, Jamie
  7. Hi, I have digital recording equipement, and have been toying with the idea of setting up a podcache. I don't want to reinvent the wheel, and so wanted to post here for input. I've read through some of the podcaches listings on gc.com, but haven't got much idea from them of what sort of things people have been doing with the technology/twist on the game. I would like to try and work out things to do with the podcache that would make the cacher seeking the cache need to work their way through the cache utilizing the podcache mp3 file while in the field. I've been thinking about about things like: walks or drives, measured in terms of tested speeds "walk until you are 1/2-way between the big rock and the mailbox, then turn left and swim toward the tall dead pine tree until... site along 50 degrees (Magnetic) with your compass and walk to the 3-stemmed birch tree... once you paddle out of the culvert, make for the downed tree at 5 o'clock pace along with me (left/right step = 1 pace = a bit more than 5 feet), "Left, Right, Left, Right...", now turn into the doorway with columns on either side, go through the first door on your left, and ask the person behind the desk... drive east on rt 30 and park your car at mile marker 513.7, walk along the edge of the woods until you see the 7th yellow State Forest Preserve sign on a tree, and with your back to that tree... I would love to hear any ideas that anyone has, and any cautionary tales that occur to anyone...through either experience or just being really smart. Thanks, Jamie
  8. I feel a little silly...I just discovered the "Proximity" and "Arrival" alarms on my meri-plat. I've now set them for 500 feet and 100 feet respectively, and was wondering how many other people use these alarms. Part of my query centers around the fact that I managed to do just fine without these things about 2 years, balanced against the fact that it just seems sorta cool. I would love to hear peoples' experiences with, or thoughts about, the alarms. Thanks, Jamie
  9. I'm working on a couple of podcaches up in the Adirondacks...probably too long a drive... jamie
  10. AWESOME!!! Thanks so much...this is exactly the sort of stuff I'm dying for...I've set up 3 PQs: one for LV proper (for caching when I'm playing with my sister in sin city), one out in Red Rocks, and a third out near Hoover Dam. This should work out great, but any additional input will be welcome. Jamie
  11. altered my plans...I'm not driving to moab and back...just staying around the Vegas area...any and all tips will be appreciated My PQ of the area maxes out at about 20 miles from my hotel on the strip...so I'm looking for your favorite caches within 2 hours driving of LV that I can add to my todo list Thanks Jamie
  12. Let me clarify...the coin maker that I dealt with has been the same throughout the entire process...it was the first coin mint or manufacturer (who actually physically produces the coins) that proved unsatisfactory. After I rejected numerous proofs from the first mint, the coin maker took their business and design to another mint, which produced the proofs you see above. I hope that is more clear...I do not know the name of the overseas mint which did a (in my opinion) poor job of servicing me as a customer. Jamie ps - I want to wait until I have received the coins, and shipped out all previous sales and trades before booking other trades and such...I will post a new thread at that time...this thread was just to inform the patient folks who made arrangements with me earlier...and to show off because I think it looks cool!
  13. Hi, I've been holding off until I had news that pointed towards completion of the project... I got some good news today in the form of pictures of proofs... The delay is due to the first manufacturer doing a poor job of reproducing the photographic image on the front, and refusing to rework it after two misses. The coin company over here who I have been working with, then took the design to another manufacturer, who has produced these proofs. I assume that the coin will ship in a couple of weeks, and as soon as I get it, I will send it out to people who bought or traded for them. If you have questions about anything, including the NFA Personal Geocoin, special education, or small-scale quail husbandry, drop me a line... Jamie
  14. If I don't sign a log, I don't count the cache as found. In a couple of cases when the log in the cache has bee soggy or missing, I leave a new log. There have been a couple of cases in which there was no pen/pencil, and/or mine was broken or frozen. In these cases, I made a mark in the log (with dirt or mud, and in one case blood). I would never insist that everyone has to abide by the rules that I follow, that's just how I play the game. Jamie
  15. can someone email or pm a link? Jamie
  16. I was thinking about 15 to 70 to 313 going one way... and then south to Bluff to Kayenta to Tuba City to Flagstaff to Kingman to Boulder City to Las Vegas thoughts... j
  17. Thanks for the offer John, I'll get back to you once I know the route in more detail... Jamie
  18. dig a tiger trap...note the coords list a new cache using those coords visit your new cache every few days, and ask anyone caught in the pit if they're a cache maggot release those who say they are not... or...ignore them, they'll get bored in a month or two, and you can start caching again. Jamie
  19. I think that you should make a sheet of numbers for the event host, and let the others fend for themselves... Seriously though, I think that the sheet at the end of the book (don't mention the sheet, just let people find it) would be helpful for people who have trouble copying down those tiny numbers, and might reduce the chance of (God forbid) any of your coins walking away during the event (because you can levae them in the book. Just my $0.02 Jamie
  20. I have found a couple of caches in bad shape, or in bad spots, but generally still enjoy the hunt regardless...I have only had one cache hunting experience that was poor enough to prompt me to post a harsh log and ask the owner to archive the cache... {{{QUOTE FROM MY LOG}}} Why? The Adirondacks is a 6 million acre collection of the most beautiful places on Earth...why place this cache here? Almost every tree in the woods surrounding the cache has sexually explicit grafiti and/or sexual propositions written/carved into it. The woods near the cache are strewn with broken glass, rusty cans, and junked tires, among other garbage. There is a raunchy mattress at the entrance to the woods, and ripped women's panties and bras right next to the cache hiding spot, which brought to mind serial rapists/killers waiting for victims to pounce upon. When my wife and son and I were here, we saw a drug deal going on in the parking area. I have to think that there are better spots, even better parking areas, in which to place geocaches in the Adirondacks. NFA {{{END QUOTE FROM MY LOG}}} I didn't feel in danger hunting the cache, but was glad that my wife and son didn't hunt it on their own... Jamie
  21. I put one together this summer that challenges seekers, in facing it, and me, in placing it, to conquer two fears that have always creeped hand in hand in my brain... Claustrophobia Meets Arachnophobia... http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...3b-73e339c7b45f {{sorry for the ugly...the linkifier wasn't working for me}} jamie

    New Attribute Request

What's that? sorry... XC = Cross Country Cross Country Skiing jamie
  23. Hi, I know that you get lots of requests for attributes to be added to the already long list, but there are lots of caches in my area that make great XC ski trips, as well as lots that really don't work as XC ski trips...an attribute for this would be awesome. Thanks, Jamie
  24. Hi, Just another update...the coins arrival date has been pushed back again...sigh... I'm so sorry to all of the people who ordered these...I thought the whole process would be quicker. The negative and threatening emails are getting me down, but I guess that's part of the gig...I understand why people are anxious to receive their geocoins. I assumed that that the pre-sale was how people did their geocoin sales, as I didn't (don't) have a couple of thousand extra dollars to front for the coins in the hope that they would sell...at any rate, I apologize to any people who feel that they were misled, that was certainly not my intent. The instant the TFTC coins arrive, I will post here, and confirm that they are all going into the packages...labels are printed and on the shipping envelopes...waiting... Jamie
