  1. pm sent...I would like one of your psychochickens...check my trade list in my sig line...below jamie
  2. lvq, anaa...laugh very quietly...almost not at all j
  3. Funny you should say that...there was a post in these forums yesterday in which somebody said that they received a PQ from gc.com that contained a whole bunch of coordinates for final stages of multi and puzzle caches...that in combination with the site referenced in this thread make me wonder about the security of the gc.com servers, and our information being kept watch over by gc.com (given the frequent state of disorder in the service recently). Jamie
  4. Joke or not, that has been something on my mind since the advent of the "additional waypoints" feature, especially on multi-caches and unknown caches...that something weird will happen, and the coordinates will either be visible or sent out to cachers...not the worst thing, but still a bummer. Jamie
  5. WOW...will the DNF police never tire of patting themselves on the back, or of chastising people who don't log DNFs the way they do...how many open threads on this topic are needed at any given time? Jamie
  6. I proposed this when the Waymarking site first cam into being, and would like to propose it again as a sub-category in: Sports and Recreation > Camping/Hiking > Free CampsiteCamping Spots I see this as different than the campgrounds sub-category in that the campgrounds sub-category focusses on multi-spot campgrounds run by private or public organizations or individuals (in many/most cases costing money), whereas the free campsites/camping spots sub-category refers to places for people to put \up a tent for free on public or private land. 7. I think that geocachers caching in multiple states in the course of a day or two and having mud and bugs all over their clothes and boots and car is a much more likely vehicle for transmission of wee-beasties across state lines than caches bought through ebay. Jamie
  8. I'd take tree-hugger or duck-squeezer over republican any time Jamie
  9. I've made some tiny geocoins by dremelling out a negative space in soapstone, and filling it with molten tin or pewter...I'm starting on another series of these, and will be stamping "NFA" or numbers on the (until now) blank side. Jamie
  10. I zero out my GPS standing over, or as close as is possible, to the new cache...given the built-in error of my machine and the built-in error of the seekers' machines, if people end up right on top of my cache, it's a happy accident. I would likely ignore the hides of someone I knew to be placing caches with intentionally bad coordinates. Jamie
  11. a friend of mine recently "replaced" a dried out gasket by running a bead of silicone goop all the way around the lid, and then "pointing" the bead using a chopstick to even it up. He says it works perfectly, but only time will tell. Jamie
  12. I woke up this morning with a burning desire to know how long an ammo-can will last in the wild. For the purposes of my question, please think about ammo-cans in places with harsh weather: rain, snow, ice, etc. ...I would assume that an ammo-can in an arid and warm environment would last almost forever. Thanks for any info you may have...my bet is that there are ammo cans in harsh environments that have been in place for 5+ years, but I'm interested to see what people have to say. Jamie

  15. I just sent out a Wyoming coin yesterday to fulfill my end of a trade! I have another Pewter and Bronze for trade if anyone is interested. PM sent
  16. IMHO the smallest size of ziplock freezer bags are much better for caches than those littler bags. Jamie
  17. I leave coins without the plastic sleeve, it just becomes geo-litter at the bottom of the cache container, and the coins are durable enough to circulate for 100 years without them (just imagine what it'll be like logging your finds on a Sunday 100 years from now... ). Jamie
  18. Copied coins..."when you care enough to send a paper copy instead of the real thing" Bumping into Mick Jagger in NYC once when I was a kid was cool...it wouldn't have been as cool if I bumped into one of those cardboard cut-outs... Finding geocoins in caches is cool...finding a cut-out is less cool in a way similar to my Mick Jagger story (which is true by the way, between Zabars and Shakespeare Books on Broadway, although he might not remember ). Jamie
  19. I think the biggest problem we are all talking about is the needless connection between lame and micro...it is an unfortunate side-effect of micro-sized cache containers that they easier to hide in high-traffic areas...I think that this is what leads to people feeling that they can (and thus should) place them anywhere...a lame hiding area is a lame hiding area, regardless of the size of the cache container...I've found lame caches that were housed in ammo cans, and awesome caches that were so tiny I had to bring my own writing implement and just had space to wire a very teeny "nfa" and the date. Please excuse the stream of consciousness writing...just my thoughts between classes...bye jamie
  20. ammo-cans and lock 'n' locks... every cache I've found that was wrapped in a plastic bag was wet and slimy inside, except one in Utah, where the plastic bag was superfluous... two mediocre containers never add up to a good container, and a good container avoids the need for extra wrapping. just my $0.02 from over the water Jamie
  21. What an awesome story... for a number of reasons...thank you for sharing that, it's the kind of story that makes me love the geocaching community even more, and also makes me want to be a better friend and neighbor. Jamie
  22. I've updated the pictures of the Brobdingnagian Geocoin (LE, Gold) and the Ginormous Geocoin (LE, Gold) to reflect their new and improved paintjobs...I'm not much of an artist, but I think they came out ok... Ginormous Brobdinagian They are pictured next to a 30 cal ammo-can for scale, and a leaf is strategically draped across the tracking numbers of each coin...thanks in advance for your help in moving these beasts around the geocaching world. Jamie - NFA
