  1. I guess my thinking is that I don't much care how other people geocache... I like finding caches...with PQs, I can filter out the types I don't like, and with common sense I can avoid the areas that tend to have crappy caches (as I define crappy)... I enjoy hiding caches, and people generally leave nice logs when they find mine, and don't seem to cheat much (as I define cheating)... I don't see what goes on in these forums as very related to what goes on in the woods where I tend to geocache, and certainly don't think that my posting about people not playing or logging or hiding the way that I want them to will change anyone's mind about geocaching, so I try not to let it bother me much (although it's fun to see others shouting at the rain)... 2. I like geocaching...my wife asked me what I want for Father's Day, and I told her that honestly, I would like to get a chance to find (and hide) a couple of geocaches either Saturday or Sunday...by myself, without having to mow the lawn first. She's giving me my wish!!! Have a great weekend everyone! Jamie - NFA
  3. I wasn't assuming anything about your statement or motives in making it, I simply sequed to thinking about cache density, and my local area has 360 caches (50 or so of them mine) in the 50 mile circle surrounding my backyard. I know that many areas are filled with so many caches that it is hard to know how and where to begin (especially without PQs I would think). I don't have a clue how this can be resolved, except for draconian measures that will anger tons of people, such as archiving (or adopting out) hides when the owner has not logged in for 6 months or more. 4. I was looking through the group descriptions and was surprised not to see a category I remember discussing a couple of months ago...great steak houses...the group description is as follows: A group designed to manage a Waymarking category for truly superb steak houses...Ponderosa, Sizzler, Outback, and the like need not apply. The group can be found at: http://www.Waymarking.com/groups/details.a...ed-d2d9684bab8d Jamie - NFA

    Micro Cache Icon

I don't know what you're talking about...I love traditional caches and hate micros, how can you say that they're the same??? No, you like regular sized traditional caches, not micro sized traditional caches. There's a difference. I have to admit...I was trolling... but thanks for the informative heads-up...it will be of use to some newbies or people who seem not to be able to get this... NFA - Jamie

  7. I believe it stands for: Cheers Record Run it's fun because it references the long-running OT thread "Cheers" and it mocks the recent record run during GW4...it's an insider thing that also belittles others...good clean fun. Jamie - NFA
  8. ammo cans, nalgene jars/bottles, some lock 'n' locks
  9. I have two 5-gallon bucket caches that are both hidden using a combination of: camo duct tape to break up the visual image being off the beaten path by a bit being placed in natural depressions that have been improved by piling some brush around them Jamie - NFA
  10. Just a thought that occurred this morning... a mega-event like GW5 could generate around 100,000 met logs, with pictures and such...can the servers deal with that additional load, or will the "met" logs be housed on a separate server (or do I not understand things like this well enough, and it's not a problem...that seems likely )? Jamie - NFA
  11. zabars.com for their blue mountain style coffee...whole beans shipped to my door, and they had a free-shipping deal this week, so I just had 10 pounds shipped to me. J
  12. Premium Members Ideas: This could be the way to sort people into "friends" lists...allow me (as a PM) to sort people I've met into "bookmark"ed lists, including my friends list, so I could keep linked connections to their profiles. PMs could upload an icon (for free, or maybe a little bit of cash) for their "I Met" exchanges. PMs could log "I Mets" for any cache, while NPMs could only log during events. PMs could use PQs to determine which people were signed up to attend upcoming events. Just my thoughts on what sounds like a fun new feature. Jamie - NFA
  13. you've looked for a geocache... everything else (finding them, hiding them, sitting on top of mountains with them, breaking the rules/guidelines, lecturing people on how to do it "the right way", spending time in the forums, etc.) is gravy...
  14. I did this at my Last CITO Event with 2 temp caches listed as waypoints... Polliwog Pond CITO Event Jamie - NFA
  15. Hi, I have hidden temporary caches before each and every geocaching event that I have hosted (and "attended" ). People seem to enjoy them a lot, and especially during CITO events, they can help herd people to spots that need clean-up of have other reasons to check them out (swimming/snacks/door prizes/etc.). What I don't do is list them with this site, since they are against the guidelines. I also don't encourage (or allow) people to log my events multiple times, since it's my event, and that's how I play. I don't have a problem with people logging multiple times at other events or on caches where the owner encourages or allows the practice because as far as I can see, it is neither contrary to the guidelines nor does it hurt me. My advice seems simple and not really inflamatory, but who knows: follow the guidelines manage your caches/events the way you want (while paying attention to #1, above) temporary caches are fun, but are contrary to the guidelines, so it's probably easier to keep them off the gc.com listing site (I bring sheets with temporary cache information on them to hand out at the events) Even though it's yucky outside, I'm going to try and get out with my 3-year-old for some caching today...have a nice Sunday everyone. 16. Isn't it nice that we can agree to disagree and be civil about it? Jamie - NFA
  17. I attend my events, so I log them as "attended" J
  18. Thank you for the reply...I know that there are lots of other things going on at gc.com. Jamie - NFA
  19. {{{Bump}}} Just checking 9 months later to see if this has moved up the ladder on the "to-do" list at all... as a reminder to those who have started geocaching since the last time this topic was bumped (or acquired alzheimers in the intervening 250+ days), the OP referred to the geocaching.com help page's reference to local organzations sending tiny logo pictures for inclusion in the stat's banner... a few local orgs are a part of this, but none others, is this policy, inertia, or just a back-burnered idea that nobody has had time to complete yet? Thanks for your replies, Jamie - NFA
  20. try tin or pewter...I bought some off of Ebay, and cast the coins in molds dremmel-ed out of soapstone...I think they look cool. Jamie - NFA
  21. I like a lot of the ideas and implementation of terracaching.com, but the reality is that im my area there are so few caches as to make it a moot point...hopefully in the future there will be more and that site and this one can work together and separately to strengthen geocaching. Jamie - NFA
  22. I like it...have it changeable like your forum title... NFA - 72" NFA - "Likes Coffee Ice-Cream" NFA - Happy!
  23. Can TPTB install an option to double (or triple, or quintuple) my find count? It won't bug me, but would obviously drive some members of the type-A, "remember when", narc-ing on the neighbors, geocaching community bonkers, which might be fun to watch. _________________________________________ Remember that bit from Caddyshack: Judge Smails: Ty, what did you shoot today? Ty Webb: Oh, Judge, I don't keep score. Judge Smails: Then how do you measure yourself with other golfers? Ty Webb: By height. _________________________________________ Numbers only matter if you are in competition with other people...if TPTB allow people to hide their numbers, I won't do it, but it won't change geocaching one bit for me, or for almost any other geocachers in the world. Jamie - NFA
