    End of the road?

    I've been monitoring the number of views on this thread for the past view months. Even with regular postings for the last two months, the numbers have been dwindling. To give you an example - yesterday's posting on favourite points has only been viewed by 18 people up to now. (The average is about 30 views per day.) Given the amount of time I normally spend on this, I can't help wondering if it is worth it to continue. Maybe it is time to finally let it die?

    Danie, I don't visit the forum regularly but I just love all the interesting information that you post. Every few weeks I do have a look at the post.

    Do you use lists? Why or why not?

    I use lists, but not that much. I am generally not very orgnised - so I probably could do a lot more with lists :).

     

    How do you currently use lists? Why do you put caches on lists? Are there list related tasks that are tough to do?

    I have a watchlist of caches. These are mostly favourite caches that I have found and I like to see how other geocachers experienced these caches through the way they log their finds.

     

    How would you like to use lists? Is there functionality that is missing that would improve your experience? (Feel free to think outside current offerings. ie: collaborate on it with a friend, download to your GPS, etc)

    I have too little knowledge of lists to really contribute to this question. I do however think it would be cool to be able to download the cache listings that are part of a list. It would be very hard to replicate the type of lists that I use in a pocket query.

    A few years ago some South African geocachers came up with the great idea that we should host a Mega Event in South Africa. Now there is less than 2 weeks to go before we all have the opportunity in sharing the Mega Fun at the first ever Mega Event in Africa which is hosted in Pretoria, South Africa.

     

    One of the last items on the programme of the Event is the closing ceremony of the log book at 12:00 on Sunday, 7 October 2012. Those of you that followed the Olympic Games hosted in London earlier this year may have seen during the closing ceremony how the mayor of London, Borris Johnson, handed the Olympic Flag over to the mayor of Rio de Janero, Eduardo Paes.

     

    As organising committee of the 2012 South African Mega Event we would like to be in a position to undertake a similar type of symbolic gesture of handing over the Mega Event to the team of Geocachers who have taken up to the challenge to start organising the next South African Mega event. Geocachers in other regions of the country that want to organise the next South African Mega event are asked to kindly contact us at info@geocachingsa.com so that we can talk about the logistics of handing over the baton not only ceremoniously on 7 October 2012 but also practically thereafter.

    Mega Event - South Africa

    As part of the organising team I would like to clarify the need for a registration fee for the MEGA Event - The organising committee of the MEGA event is undertaking the organisation of the event on a non-profit basis. The cost of the geocoins, clothes and other elements, including the registration fee and prices at which the items are sold are budgeted in such a way that the costs involved in offering the items for sale and hosting the three day event will be covered. All money left after the event (if any) will be handed to the organising committee of the next South African Mega Event.

     

    The total cost of the event as planned at the moment amounts to between R40 000 to R50 000. This excludes the costs of coins, clothing and meals. For some of these items we had to commit on orders well in advance in order to ensure timeous availability. By way of sponsorhips we are endeavouring to keep the costs to attendees to a minimum. By way of comparison registration fees for MEGA events in Europe range from 10-20 Euro and in the USA the registration fees are between $15 and $30.

     

    The registration fee for MEGA South Africa (GC3B0EJ)is R120.00 per adult and covers the full three days. For children under 16 the amount is R20. If you register before 14 September 2012 the fee is only R60.00 per adult and R10 per child.

    2009 Great SA TB Race

    Thank you GEO936, DamhuisClan and Cincol for all the effort with the 2009 Great Race. :D

     

    Also thank you to all the cachers out there that moved our TB's and posted so many interesting photos. It was a great experience to be part of such a race for the first time. :D

     

    I notice that BruceTP is working on a Race for next year already. B)

    It seems to me that these patches work a lot like the magnetic TB Tags that one can put on your vehicle for discovery as you move around and attend events.
