Can't understand why the Mout Stuart cache hasn't been visited, it's about 300m from the car park, and the car park is at the end of a sealed road!
Glad to hear the Paluma cache has been visited, thought I was going to have to get my daughter to rescue the bugs

Like you Bob I was bewildered by the choice, I eventually went for a M500 bought off Ebay. I think the Vx is similar, I chose the M500 because it had space for an expansion card, seemed a good idea at the time.
If you are buying off Ebay watch the postage charges, some sellers make up their money by charging a lot for postage. You also need to check on the screen condition, they do get scratched.
I'm using it with GSAK and Cache mate, it's great for caching. The IR port makes it 'cableless' for uploads and dowmloads assuming you've got IR at the other end!

I've just come across a brilliant application for the Palm, a co-ordinate converter.
I'm particularly pleased as it has a converter for the Aussie Grid, maybe not super accurate but at least I can plot WGS84 co-ords onto Aussie maps. Runs fine on my m500
There are lots of other free applications

Contraband probably gets put in caches because not everyone reads the forum.
How about cache owners leaving a list of undesirable items in the cache container? Then all cachers would be aware of the potential problems.

The coordtrans proggy is just what I've been looking for.
Does the conversion WGS84 to the peculiar Aussie reference system they use on their maps. Last time I was in Oz gave up trying to find maps with WGS 84 type co-ords, now I can use any of their maps

Have a thought for the Phillimore Clan's TB, I may have to rescue it next year!!
Oh and the IOM doesn't appear as a different country in the Geocaching 'pull down list' for seek a cache.

With OS get a map there is no need to download the high def version (top right print/save option) Hover over the map on the screen and you can save the map alone, definition is good enough for caching.
If you need to join maps, Irfanview has that facility, used to use it all the time before I went paperless.

I check mine when the logs indicate they are getting too easy. I then usually find that the containers have not been replaced exactly as placed by me.
Recently I found that very detailed pictures of several cache locations have been posted, a request to the cacher got these removed from the gallery.

Why not use Gridinquest, developed in conjunction with OSGB? Converts both ways.
I use it all the time. The only downside is that the OS co-ords are in the new (Non alpha system), not really a problem
It's free but you need to login on the following website to get it, 6Mb download

I think I said that things may start moving when the Sydneysiders come north for the winter. I'm told the caravans can be expected soon.
It wasn't my idea to put them in N Queensland, I just said I could
If enough people want it I could possibly be persuaded to pick some of them up, next year perhaps

I hope the Aussies don't just take one at a time otherwise the SP race ones will be there for a long time and I may have to rescue them next year

Mission completed at last! I can now stop worrying about finding room for the TBs, it was a close thing though. Had to remove another Tb from the last cache to make room for Alibags' SP lookalike!
I've got a number of piccies which I'll sort out and post.
There should hopefully be some visitors from the south soon as the Sydneysiders travel north for the winter.

I had a good caching day on Monday. Visited some spectacular cache sites, but unfortunately the containers although excellent are not very big.
Note for anyone else carrying quantities of race bugs, it's easier to find homes for them if they are small.
I've now managed to place all but four. Sorry but it may be a week or so before these get placed. One of them, 'Nemo for Noli' has just got to go into GCJYWA and perhaps may have travelling companion, sad really, grown people behaving like this!
I had hoped to put some into GCGBAV to join 'It's a jumper' but the box was full.
If it's any consolation to those whose bugs haven't moved yet they've actually gone further than 'It's a jumper' as that was the first placed and all the bugs have travelled around the placing caches with me, there's no way I'm logging twenty odd bugs in and out of caches

Only three bugs placed on Sunday in GCKW5B.
The cache containers here whilst very good are also very small. I'm hoping I will be able to release a decent quantity on Monday as I've got the use of a car.

First bugs released on Saturday at GCJYW7
The cache container was rather small and I ws only able to release 6. More to be released today Sunday

Friday morning in Oz.
The TBs all cleared customs yesterday without any problems We are suffering a bit of jet lag.
Hope to start getting some of the bugs placed this weekend, depends on getting transport. Probably take about a week to get all of them placed, the pile is quite large and it's going to take a few caches to place them all.

The original 28 (plus 1 freeloader) can be seen in this picture.

I need to get the case packed now, so I don't have time to wait for the late arrivals to have their piccie taken with the gang.

I fully understand about the tags, but I thought it worth pointing out.
I'm now not acknowledging by email, but I am grabbing the bugs a they arrive. Total at present is 16

I've just been checking numbers 1742 bst on 5th There are 27 total listed and I've got just 14.
What surprises me is that some have no identification tag attached to them.
Anyone picking them up has no idea what it's about or more importantly what the bug wants to do.
I know the aim is on the webpage, but for my own part I download GPX files and don't look at the TB pages. It's in participant's own interests to put an aims tag on the bug. One bug actually has tick boxes on its tag so anyone picking it up can see what needs to happen next.
Please don't leave it to the last minute

Can't be bothered to read through all the posts. This may already have been covered
What is the procedure for placing the bugs. I suggest that the easiest way is for the owners to log them into othe final SP cache and then I will 'pick them up' when I deposit them in OZ.
The pile of bug s getting bigger by each morning morning post!!
Everyone who has sent a bug to me should have had an acknowledgment by email

Looks as if I'm going to be busy
I'm going to have to sprinkle them around. It's doubtful if I can get them all in one cache

Editing Cache Names In Gsak
in GPS technology and devices
Posted
This must have been asked before but I can't see any reference to it.
Where a series of caches have the same words at the start of the cache name would be useful to be able to abbreviate these so that uploads to GPS and PDA running cachemate give an understandable name for the cache.
For example, I started on a series of caches (18 in total) which all had the same 4 words at the beginning. What I would like to be able to do is to search for these 4 words and replace with something else, so that the actual 'meat' of the cache name is visible on the PDA. I don't think that smart names meet my requirement, editing cache by cache is also a no, no
I can do a workaround by editing the gpx file, but that's a bit cumbersome as it involves loading the orginal gpx, sorting by cache name, identifying the problem names and then exiting GSAK and externally editing and re-importing.
Any ideas folks?
