  1. I too have been bugged by this problem.

I found a reference on the MM forum about it and the moderator there said it worked OK providing there was BLACK (0 0 0) in the palette and "WHITE" (255 255 255). Looks as if MM interprets this white as meaning transparent.

Armed with this information I set about finding out where my problem lay. Using the only graphics editor I had (M$ Paint) I found that no matter what I did I could not get "White", I edited the file manually and was able to prove to myself that it was indeed possible.

After much experimenting I was able to produce transparent icons, but not transparent names for the 10 GC categories.

If anyone requires copies (small zip file) email me, can't see a way of attaching it.

  2. Have you looked at M$ Autoroute and it's free derivative Pocket Streets to use on the PPC?. You can search by street name, it will interface with a GPS. My only grouse is that it does not have the ability to 'drag the screen' but use navigation keys.

Another possibilty is making your own using Ozi Explorer, but it's tedious.

  3. Has anyone else had a problem with images on newly published caches?

I checked Subarite's new one last night when I got the notification, but the 'Tile' puzzle image was missing, tried again again this morning, still nothing, now it has appeared, and yes I do refresh the browser.

This isn't the first time I've noticed this, the same thing was true with Bekandian's 4 recently published Ridgeway Run caches.

  4. Bob,

Turnabout should only effect the pages that it has installed scripts for. The Geocaching OS maps script should only effect the Geocaching web pages.

Turnabout comes bundled with some pre-indstalled scripts that do ad-blocking amongst other things, one of these may be causing the problems with the other web sites.

To disable these scripts go to the Turnabout Options... entry under the Tools menu.

Use the dialog box to disable all non Geocaching scripts (except for the "GreaseMonkey compatibility script" and the "Mozilla compatibility script").

Hope this fixes your problem...

PS: If you do not have the Turnabout Options menu, you may need to re-install Turnabout using the Advanced option.

In that case surely the problem would go if I disable turnabout, it doesn't, it only goes if I uninstal it.

  5. Geoff,

Turnabout is the plug in for IE which allows user scripts to modify IE pages so that for example instead of the grotty map which normally appears on cache pages you get an OS section at 1:50000.

When you click on the OS map ref at the top of the page you get an OS map section at 1:25000 opening.

This problem I have is irritating, I may have to try Firefox instead.

  6. I've been trying to use the excellent utility for displaying OS maps on cache pages, but I have a problem with IE which is only solved by removing 'turnabout' not just disabling it.

Briefly what is happening is that on certain web pages, and this includes my bank's online page, I get 'script error' messages, .

I've done a 'clean' install of XP, done all the updates, tried running with no antivirus SW, and no firewall but problem goes only away when I uninstall turnabout.

Anyone else experienced this and if so how was it cured

  7. The CSV one at the top of the list isn't any good on AR.

Once imported using Data/import data wizard you need to select one of the push pins and then use Data/data set properties/baloon to get the fields you want displayed when you select the push pin.

You can also change the appearance of the push pin Data\data set properties/general/symbol. I've grabbed the GC icons for the different types of caches and reduced them to 16x16 pixels using an image editor then imported them into Autoroute, the map then displays the different cache types just as they appear on GC pages, you need of course to set filters in GSAK to get the correct files.
