Well, when I am Reviewing, I typically publish somewhere between 12am - 2am. I'm a late night person, and it's also when my family is in bed and I have some free time to focus on reviews. I always get concerned that I'm waking some poor people up when their notices ring on their cell phones. But it's amazing how many people will rush out at midnight to grab a FTF. The logs for late at night/early morning can be the most enjoyable to read, as they seem to have fun with the adventure, and meeting the other FTF hunters at the cache. Don't get concerned about waking people up. Everyone has the ability to turn off Email notices if they want to. Ah, but will they? Yeah, yeah, I know. They can stop at any time. Hey Cascade Reviewer, So can you address the question I raised above... Are you able to schedule publishing a listing for a date/time in the future? I'm just curious. I had left a note to a reviewer asking if he could publish a cache after 11:00PM on a particular day. The cache was published as requested. Maybe it was just coincidence. Anyway, was/is/are you guys able to set a date and time for publishing, or do you have to be up at 3:00AM and hit the "publish button" at 3:00AM? Thanks, Sam Must be top secret or something...

I wonder if the reviewer has any ability to "schedule" a posting for say, 2:00AM. Or when a cache is published at 2:00AM, does that mean that the reviewer was actually up at that time and pushed the "publish" button?

What is the total number of gpx files your GPSr holds, and how many do you have loaded presently? Is there a mass storage mode, where you can look at the files on the unit from your computer?

This may help you a bit... its how getting cache data from GC.com to my GPS has evolved. If you can visualize what GSAK can do for a typical user (me), then you might see that it's something you want to pursue. In the beginning, I would use the "send to GPS" feature on GC.com to load individual cache files (the information for one cache in one *.gpx file) to my GPS. My particular unit holds 200 *.gpx files or 2000 cache, whichever comes first. This method was obviously quite tedious. And it didn't take much time to bump up against the 200 file limit. I later realized that you can download Pocket Queries (results from a search that you define) from GC. The PQ's can have up to 500 cache entries per *.gpx file. GC.com emails the PQ's to your email. On Friday morning I would open each email, unzip the files, and copy them to my GPS. It was better but still tedious. With GSAK, I have it go get the PQ's from my email, it then unzip the files, then loads/updates the data into the database. It tells the email server to remove the files from my inbox. It deletes the zip files from my computer. I then click "send to GPS", in GSAK, and it does just that. So with two clicks, one to get the PQ data from my email, and another, a couple minutes later, to send the data to the GPS, my GPS is loaded with up-to-date cache information on nearly 2000 caches. My use is actually quite simple. Others are doing even more elaborate sorting etc... It's very powerful. Support is top notch over at the the GSAK forums as well. There is a learning curve, but I feel the end result is worth the effort. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Sam

As far as I now... No there isn't... but my solution is to make a filter in you're mailprogram... that's the way I do it... outlook receives the mail, detect it's the found PQ and then sends it out to another mailadres. PQ Founds -> Outlook.... filter say -> send to alternate email. I hope you understand what I mean... Thanks, I'll have to play with that. I have all my PQ's sent to an alternate email and GSAK looks there for them... Travel Wolf, Thanks again. Your suggestions worked beautifully. With the "My Finds" PQ with all my other PQ's over at my alternate email address I'm set. Now with one click in GSAK, I can acquire all my caches, unzip the attachments, import to GSAK, delete email off the server and deleted the zip files... what used to take a half hour now takes < a minute.

With regular PQ,s, they can be configured to be sent to an alternate email. Is there a way to do that with the "my finds" PQ? I'm not seeing it. Can someone offer a suggestion?

I was wondering if there is a way to see who is watching caches that I've placed. People have been calling my phone and hanging up. Yesterday I saw a black helicopter. Joking aside, on a couple of my caches, there are a whopping 3 people watching. Is there a way to see who they are? Thanks.

I found it very confusing until I actually tried it on my new Oregon 200. I downloaded Mapsource from Garmin then installed the Ibaycus USA maps to my netbook. They appeared in Mapsource and I selected the whole USA and told it download to the SD card in the Oregon. Took 30 min to render and another 30 to download (while I was watching TV etc.) and on the next boot I had some pretty nice quality maps on the Oregon. I'm not totally certain about the "can load more than one" part to the Oregon. I downloaded multiple map overlays of Olympic National Park, Valley Forge, and some satellite imagery of downtown Philly and it only used the first one loaded. Might be user error on my part. Not quite sure, the oregon wiki is a bit confusing. Whenever you load maps, it'll compile, then dump the file into the unit. If you compile only Ibaycus then load that... then compile and load another map, it will overwrite the Ibaycus. If you want multiple maps, you have to change to each maps set in Mapsource, select the tiles from that map (example) Ibaycus, then change maps to (example again) Hawaiian Topo, then select the tiles you want displayed, then again (example) change maps to (some other map) select the tiles you want from there... compile all of them, then load them to the GPS. In the GPS you'll be able to go to >setup>map>select map.... all of the above map tiles should be selectable.

Another is the size of the 2 units. The Oregon is slightly larger. Does the Dakota have the 4Gb of on board memory like the 400t?

Thanks, I had tried that with Google Earth but it only outputs .kml or z. I'll give GPSBabel a try.

I downloaded some gpx track files from: http://www.everytrail.com/ They were tracks of peoples hikes. About a third of the gpx files won't open in Mapsource. I get a message that says the files can not be imported. I can drag and drop them into Google Earth and they display correctly. I'm thinking that Mapsource needs a header formatted correctly. I'm not really sure. Anyone have any thoughts on how I might "fix" these files. While I'm here, does anyone have or know where I can get more gpx track files for hiking/caching over near Hilo? There are tons of free maps for the Garmin's. Check www.gpsfiledepot.com. That said, you're pretty limited as to turn by turn routeable maps for them. The maps are are just files. The TopoUSA map is a file called: X:\Garmin\gmapprom.img. It's a ~2.63GB file. (X: = your unit's internal memory) The City Nav file is: X:\Garmin\gmapsupp.img. It's a ~1.1GB file. (X: = my mSD card) I also have gmapsupp.img file on the internal memory which holds NWTrails and "other" maps. Garmin introduced additional naming options several FW releases back, but I haven't bothered with it. If you've erased it you can copy it back to your unit (if you have access to the file). Maybe you know someone else that has a 400T. If you don't know someone close by where you live... I'm sort of close by... Down in Redmond... I'd be willing to hook up with you and get you back up and running. Sam

The Oregon 400T is really an awesome caching device. I assume you have the Topo USA installed. Have you been able to load *.gpx cache files into it yet? As for loading CN into it, I would suggest loading the CN software into mapsource, and then unlocking the software for your Oregon. Then transfer all of CN to a micro SD card... Once you have Topo USA, CN, and a *.gpx file (with cache data) loaded you'll be able to route to a cache via turn by turn directions on the streets, and then route straight line via Topo USA overland to the cache. You need to take it one step at a time... Load CN into your Oregon, Then Load Cache data into it. If you need detailed instruction, people here can help you. Just ask specific questions.
