  1. I support the idea. I just wish I had taken more photos and coordinates of some I saw while in the UK, Ireland and New Zealand
  2. I would modify the waymark. I usually add GONE to the title and modify the text stating it is no longer there.
  3. For me it kind of depends on the object being waymarked and its visibility. I waymark many historic houses that are private but are clearly visible from the street and have no problem with that even though they may be a couple hundred feet from the street however I would not waymark a sculpture that is located in front of the house.
  4. Members of the category group can archive the waymark.
  5. You can place a comment on the Waymark and the owner of the Waymark will see it. For the Waymark listed in the wrong state you can edit the Waymark to correct the state.
  6. Most Waymarkers that have many categories inherited them either planned or unplanned when other previously active Waymarkers left the game or when groups were first formed and the person that started the category did not want to continue. If these Waymarkers had not stepped up these categories would have been inactive years ago. In many cases group leaders may want to promote some more officers but if they are not premium members they can not be promoted.
  7. I have removed a couple entries for being off topic. Wherigo has its own forum section and should be discussed there.
  8. The reason there are not separate forum sections for different countries is the number of posts total in Waymarking does not justify breaking it out. There are no restrictions if some desires to post their questions in their own language in this section of the forums.
  9. So how the extreme overprevalence didn't stopped the guys from Prague to make a category for public phones? Pay phones was an early category established by Groundspeak near the start of Waymarking, before peer review was done for categories. Don't use old categories as a guideline as to what would make it as a category now, things have evolved overtime and many of the older categories probably would not be approved today. Actually payphones that can be called are getting rare in most of the US and I think that is what they were thinking of when thinking when they created the category.
  10. Yes you can create categories, however it is not that easy. Currently less than half of all categories that go to peer review are approved.
  11. The logging requirements are in general set by the category, seldom are they set by individual waymarkers. Most categories don't allow ALRs. The additional questions you may be seeing when you log a waymark are optional variables that were not completed when the waymark was submitted; it is the site asking the question to further complete the waymark. You are not required to answer the questions. And No it is not technically possible to protect waymark with question that must be matched exactly to log. To see the category description, you need to be on the category page and not the group page (the admins' names are shown only on group page and not category page). On the category page if only a short description is showing click link "[show additional information]"
  12. That is how categorizing Uncategorized Waymarks works. Once a person categorizes an Uncategorized Waymark they get a waymark in the category they put it in (not the person that originally submitted the uncategorized waymark). There is no limit to the number of categories an uncategorized waymark is later put in by whomever. That is by design. Using another's actual waymark and photos is not appropriate (unless permission is granted).
  13. I have one in my area that does not state the cause of death but rather carved in stone is a picture of it. The individual was known to be fond of drink and his wife had warned him that it would lead to his end. One day after he partook of too much drink he was kicked to death by his mule. His wife wanting to point out the errors of his ways had his gravestone carved with him laying on the ground getting kicked by the mule.
  14. Waymarking is marking (submitting) and visiting locations around the world which fit into the various categories. Check out the help center's Waymarking Beginner's Basics.
  15. But what would I waymark if there isn't any documentation, and how would I find out about a possible waymark I could create if only the locals know about it? These massacre sites could also conceivably go into the There's a Book About It or the News Article Locations categories, if a book or news story was written about them. Why are you proposing this category? Is it to memorialize and publicize these massacres, or call attention to injustices or failure of justice? Is it to preserve local memory of these events? I think most would also fit into Battlefields or Disasters categories.
  16. Sorry about not getting with you during that trip. It was during that trip it became obvious to me that my body was not working the way it was supposed to. A few weeks later I got my diagnosis. After radiation therapy and chemotherapy, three surgeries and another round of chemotherapy my body is now on the upswing.
  17. I think the problem with this would be the over prevalence of these houses. There are communities where there are hundreds bungalow houses.
  18. Yes I viewed your waymark and it currently has two photos with the second one uploaded sometime today, 12/14. The waymark was resubmitted on 12/12, thus it was resubmitted with with only one photo. I saw what you posted but did not realize that came in a separate email, I was referring to the decline messages entered when the waymark was declined. I can not see the private notes you enter once the waymark has been reviewed. I don't play the "good ole network", I have been mostly away from reviewing waymarks and Waymarking in general for several months due to health reasons. I decline very few waymarks overall. However, if I let one in that is missing a photo etc. in the end it is a problem because the next one I decline that is missing a photo that waymarker will invariably go back and find where I approved another one with same problem and most of us that review a lot of waymarks have experienced the same thing.
  19. I have reviewed the notes on the declines for that waymark and I see two and neither of them questions the quality of the photos. They both indicate that you had submitted only one photo thus the reason for the decline. Typically if another officer declines a waymark, I allow them to do the subsequent reviews as they are familiar with the history etc. especially if the decline is done by the leader of the category.
  20. I am not sure what category you received this response. In the one category that it was submitted to that I review in (but not in this case) it was rejected because the category requires two photos of the sculpture and only one was uploaded. They had also requested additional information about the sculpture if it was available. I personally have no problem with the quality of the one photo.
  21. I believe they are still working however visits unfortunately are "credited" for the day the visit is entered to the site and not for the date you enter for visit. This might explain why you are not seeing the visit when you were expecting.
  22. There’s pinned message at the top of this forum: Absent Leaders and Unresponsive Officers I think that post is out of date. Isn't it Waywizard that you need to contact now, instead of Checkmark? Send them to Checkmark, he is back now.
  23. Many of the individual markers on Walks of Fame have been submitted to the Citizen Memorial category.
  24. Glad I could help. Not a category I have submitted many to so I was not sure if it would work.
  25. These might be able to be submitted to the European Historic Survey Stones, Monuments and Benchmarks category.
