  1. A log on a friends field puzzle cache. The cache page clearly states that it is a puzzle and that you must solve the puzzle to obtain the log. He obviously read the instruction sheet but decided that he could just log it as found without doing the rest.
  2. Canadian Rockies beat me to the punch. I wanted to add some more info. The 150 ft guideline is not there for safety. In the early days of Geocaching a rail company came down hard on a cacher who hid a cache on the rail right of way. The cacher apparently had some huge fines to pay. Groundspeak did not want this to be an issue and thus the 150 ft guideline was created. IF you can prove that the area is public or that you have permission you can place a cache within 150 ft. If you did supply that proof and the reviewer did not agree you can always try appeals.
  3. Cuddlefish with the way your cache page currently reads I think it would be acceptable. I think removing the entire last paragraph would be perfectly fine. Maybe the reviewer will be able to unarchive the cache now that you have made that change, so contact them. In the other cache you referenced I see no agenda. It gives facts on Joe and the CO's connection to Joe. The only line that I see in a gray area is "Great job to Joe, and to the exellent volunteers as well!".
  4. No they're not. The issue seems to be that the links on the cache page are slightly outdated. But with a little research they are easy to find. And if I had planned on going here I would have found these easily. (Note the other link on the cache page takes you to another site with an additional 2 working cams) http://www.courierpress.com/libraryghost/cams/childrensroom/ http://www.courierpress.com/libraryghost/cams/basementroom/ Here's the research room: http://www.courierpress.com/libraryghost/cams/researchroom/
  5. The guidelines clearly state that you must use the webcam to take a photo and I support any CO that deletes fake webcam logs. I've worked hard to get the few I have. It was amazing to see how many people either don't know the guideline or don't give a darn and logged the webcam in Louisville over GWX. The office it's in is closed on weekends so it was no longer on my route but I saw plenty of people taking a photo of their group at the door. If the webcam is down for a considerable amount of time (I'd say 3 months straight) then a NA may be needed, but that one still has working cams. Just check out the ghost sightings page In fact here is one from the day you visited at 5:50 PM: http://www.willardghost.com/ghostspottings/inspect.php?capture=271128&pic=20120524/WillardGhostCapture_20120524-03-50-21.jpg
  6. You can create a multi or a puzzle or a letterbox that starts somewhere outside the library and uses clues, coordinates, or puzzles to lead you inside. You can also have the inside portion full of clues lead the finders outside to find the final.
  7. I have helped a few people hide caches. Whether it's showing them a spot I found but hadn't used for my cache or just providing assistance in getting coordinates. I've also had people beta test a couple of mine. The agreement in these cases is we never go after the FTF we wait awhile and we eventually go out and do it. It sounds like these friends would have hid the cache(s) with or without you, and you are just giving assistance to make it better. I see nothing wrong. There are plenty of areas where I have seen someone hide a streak extender for a local who is on a super long daily streak. There's nothing wrong with it. Now if you made a second account that had the purpose of placing caches to help you on this challenge, then that would be hokey.

I finally decided to see if anyone else was having this problem. Glad I'm not alone. I've never heard of misbehaving cookies, are they tasty?
  9. http://www.htmlgoodies.com/tutorials/web_graphics/article.php/3480061/How-To-Add-a-YouTube-Video-to-Your-Web-Site.htm This =is a good tutorial. It takes about 4 steps.
  10. Every cacher to cacher email that goes through Groundspeack has this at the bottow: ------------------------------------------------------------ Forward abuse complaints to: contact@geocaching.com Send them any abusive emails. Also mention the cache pages and TB pages in question. They can see deleted logs.
  11. When I hear Disney cache I think of paying $60 to stand in line for 3 hours and then a great ride that lasts maybe a minute or two. I think I'd pass.
  12. Why? The cache you refer to does not offer any historic or other type of background information and a small display is certainly not the place where I would like to read such information. I guess the information provided in the Wherigo concentrates on the very basic facts. In a multi cache one can more easily serve different audiences at the same time. Cezanne Sure you can write pages of text with photos on a cache page. Not many read the cache page and those who do read will skim over a short novel on the history of buildings. A Wherigo can take you to the building and then tell you the history in short snippets. You can still skim, but by breaking it down it is more manageable. You can also use photos to highlight an area of the house (changes over the years, specific architecture, etc) And the cartridge can store all data needed for the multi aspect. A Wherigo is really just an interactive multi and that's why I like them. Now I guess you do have a point that the screen size is smaller than a computer and may not be for everyone, but not everyone does Whereigos.
  13. Snoogans our group talked about some of those same things. We've only been to 3 Mega's and only 1 GW so it's good to see someone who has been to 7 GWs have similar thoughts. Our idea was for Groundspeak to hire a small team (2-5) people to work as Mega coordinators. Basically the GW team would pick who has the best bid. Then once the bid is announced a coordinator works with the local volunteers to help them plan and avoid pitfalls. Groundspeaks recent decision to remove the cost of trackable numbers for Megas should help the organizers raise more money, but I imagine there's a huge initial cost that's not covered until the event is completed.
  14. My favorite Wherigo is very similar http://coord.info/GC2NMVT in Durham. A well done Wherigo would be preferable to a multi but with the plaques a multi could also really work out well. You could split the houses into two caches. Have the coordinates for the multi and Wherigo slightly offset (maybe one for each side of the street). All the waypoints will be virtual so no saturation issues. Then just find a park with room for two caches .1 to .2 miles apart and place the finals there. People can choose which to do or do both at the same time.
  15. I'm sure someone (Toz, Markwell) will post the full history of virts, but your proposal to bring them back was already tried before they were killed. It was called the WOW requirement. Virtuals had to have some significance and it was left up to the reviewer to approve or deny this. Reviewers already get enough flack for not publishing a regular cache that breaks a guideline (There's a thread every month about the 528 ft rule needing more leeway). They caught way more flack when virtuals were in place and that's one of the main reasons virtuals went away. Challenges are the replacement for virts.
  16. THANK YOU! I am usually able to solve these with no problems but a local one has been causing me fits due to the text being rotated 45 degrees. This program did the trick!
  17. flyfsggrl I think the inconsistencies come from you reading the guidelines like hard and fast rules (like you may be used to in softball). They are called guidelines for a reason. You can find contradictions of each and every one. When Geocaching started there was nothing (not even this site to list them). People hid whatever, wherever, however they wanted. This site was created and then after a short period of time the founders decided they needed some rules to prevent negative run ins with land owners. The rules were not rigid but flexible and left up to each reviewer to enforce so they were called guidelines. Over time more guidelines were added and they are constantly changing and being added to. When a guideline is added (or amended) all old caches are grandfathered under the old guidelines. So this is why you may find caches (hidden back in 2001) that are closer than 528 feet. I agree having the quote about quality is contradictory if you read it as a hard fast rule. But as I tried to convey in my first post (and failed) it's am encouragement not a requirement.
  18. By posting on a forum you are soliciting opinions. That's how the internet works. Seriously??? Maybe before the rant you should have looked to see I'm a teacher. Now let me think like a bad guy for one second. I want to abduct a kid where do I start? A school, perfect! Now how can I find one of these schools, they're so secretive it's not like I can just look it up in the phone book or online oh I know I'll join Geocaching and hope one of the 100's of local caches takes me near a school where I can commit my crime. OR I could just look it up in a phone book or online. Anyone can get the address of any school for free. Your argument would exclude caches in parks as well since parks are also filled with kids. I gave you that example to show that the guidelines are not rules and are flexible (especially with explicit permission). Most of these caches were set up by the school Geocaching club with help of the teacher, students, and a local cacher. All hides were approved by the Principal.
  19. http://transition.fcc.gov/mb/audio/bickel/circleplot.html Will draw circles of any radius from any center
  20. I love the form because for someone with little to no experience it lays things out in a clear manner and is less threatening. Plus it reminds COs about disabled caches. Plus you have to check a little box to add a hint (which will hopefully cut down on the useless hints). I have gotten used to the large form and may use that more than the current BETA version for now. The great thing is right now you can use either.
  21. When I first read the original post I couldn't tell if you were creating a puzzle or solving a puzzle. I looked at your public account and looked at the nearest puzzle caches. It took a couple minutes. A spoiler is a spoiler is a spoiler. Sorry if you found my basic detective work a little creepy (but it has come in handy on quite a few puzzles).
  22. http://coord.info/GC2A9PB Here it is: It was placed by frits, replaced last April. The most recent log is 4/23 but some people don't log online right away if ever. Send them an email to see what they want you to do with it.
  23. It is considered bad form to ask for help soling puzzle caches on the forums. Contact The Cat and ask them for help. If that's the only one you're missing then they may be able to offer a hint to help you along.
  24. I've done plenty of crazy long multi/puzzle caches. If it is rated properly and the cache page is interesting then people will do it (it will just be a small number). It sounds like you'll be doing more of a puzzle if it's all based on description, but if you list the waypoints for each stage then you'd have a multi. 12 miles is a lot of walking many people would want to break that up. If it cannot be broken up or driven in any part I'd rate it at a 3 due to distance. Also make sure your description is clear enough for out of towners to do.
  25. The 'Big 3' Guidelines that are heavily enforced (IMO) 1) Caches are never buried 2) They do not damage, deface, nor destroy public property 3) They must be 528 feet from any other physical cache or cache stage. The others are just guidelines and can be changed. For example there are about a half-dozen caches on school property around me. Each has explicit permission and heavy details about visiting hours on the page. briansnat's quote is an encouragement for hiders to make something more than a pill bottle under a lamp post, BUT as long as it meets those big 3 guidelines it will be published. I will say a small percentage of parking lot caches will turn out to be very cool.
