  1. I'm sure there's quite a few. I would do a Caches Along the Route PQ with terrain under 1.5 and do all the research myself. If you want suggestions you will need to provide a route, or the major cities along the way.
  2. Just got this log last night: Got a lot more than I bargained for at this cache. As I pulled into the parking area, I noticed a couple of other cars off to the side. There was a couple in a Lexus doing something that they shouldn't have been. Got my piece of the Pi and got out of Dodge. TFTC.
  3. Nope. You can ask and could get a reply, but there is no automatic way
  4. It's hard to say. If it was truly just a property issue then getting the caches archived would be enough, right? But if this maggot is stealing caches and not willing to return the property to the cache owner then it is theft. For any COs in the area they should clearly label their caches and logs, make sure they have explicit permission (where needed), and the best thing to do is head this guy off. Medford cachers should go ahead to the City Council and let them know what geocaching really is about, show them the positives, show that (for the most part) their caches are placed on public property, and that we as a community do not condone trespassing but it sometimes happens. Show them CITOs and maybe get stats on how many people (like yourself) have come to Medford just to cache. As the ET highway has shown if the community can clearly see the positive business impact they will be much more open to caching.
  5. When I use it it just means you are likely to be in view of the public. I hide quite a few caches in parks. These all usually have the stealth required attribute because there will be people around especially on a nice day.
  6. Our groups rule: must be present to win. If it's in a lamp post and you stay in the car that is okay. If it's a mile hike heck no.
  7. Actually I feel the other way. Those who take the extra time and effort to spice up there cache page (whether it's a good story, a couple pics, or html) usually also put some extra effort into placing better caches. I'm not saying this is always true and I'm not saying I haven't found a great cache with a plain jane page, but I think there is a small correlation. I really like the pages and while this tool does make the listings the same the examples shown all have good write ups and pics that let me know exactly what I'm doing. That means more than the HTML stuff which is just icing on the cake. I think that is a good metaphor. Someone could use this to ice a piece of Styrofoam (it will look great but have no filling) while others will use it to ice a very delicious, moist, home made cake (looks great and has lots of flavor on the inside as well).
  8. I have a Challenge cache and over the summer a cacher with under 100 finds marked it as found. It's impossible to log this challenge cache with that few finds so I deleted their log and then sent an email nicely explaining why I did it. Never heard anything back.
  9. I don't think that should be allowed as a cache period. It needs to have a physical logbook.
  10. A couple years ago I spent close to two hours talking to a reporter about geocaching. In explaining how it is viewed I used the word treasure hunt. Want to guess what the one line she used from my interview? Let me repeat, the one line. I always use "High tech scavenger hint". Treasure = digging and prizes. For the most part it is more about the journey and finding little known areas.
  11. Here's how I interpret the agenda guideline: If Groundspeak allows caches honoring veterans, then they must allow caches honoring any other group. They cannot say we'll honor good causes because the definition of a good cause changes a lot depending on who you talk to. I don't think your reviewer hates veterans (s)he was just doing the job and interpreting the guideline. The event seems fishy, but all the celebration stuff could easily have been added after publication. I think most reviewers would allow any cache that present just facts, but once you add words like thank, honor, pause to reflect, be aware of, etc it becomes an agenda.
  12. Atlanta, GA area has 2 (http://coord.info/GC1D and http://coord.info/GC1E). Thankfully my tri-state area (GA, NC, SC) has all dates except May 2000
  13. Don't take this as being mean, but we are trying to help. I post comments like that to inform the CO and other seekers. I'm trying to make the game better. When caches are constantly 50 feet off the search will tear up areas and alert suspicion of muggles. When you place a cache you agree that you will maintain it and keep it up to date. All the complaints you are receiving is because you are not doing your job as a cache owner. http://coord.info/GC25MM4 You posted a Maintenance log months after the archive this will do nothing. No one will go after this cache because it is archived. http://coord.info/GC2MCRT and http://coord.info/GC2MB3C and http://coord.info/GC26964 Have lots of DNFs a NM, and a NA. You may want to go check on these.
  14. Unless you have a time machine you are 10 years too late. If you do have a time machine then I can think of a million better uses FYI I am not a Harry Potter fan, just a realist
  15. Only the Earthcache level is really forcing anything on you. CITO is the same as Letterbox but is $10 more for the $10 donation. Now if you want the GeoWoodstock 10th Anniversary GeoCoin (Not available in the store.) then yes it is a forced donation.
  16. I wish I would have gotten a survey. Maybe it's time for them to discuss more than two levels. Have a free, and then break down many different paid options. Each level would include everything available at the lower levels as well. Traditional: $5 = Off Topic, Favorite Points, and Bookmarks Multi: $15 = Notifications, stats, and map filtering Unknown: $30 = Everything we currently have (Main difference is PQs and CAR) Virtual: $40 = Everything plus beta testing some new new stuff. (VIP list, friend enhancements, even better maps, etc) Right now it's all or nothing. Pushing it to $40 with no big new benefit many users will decide to drop down to basic which costs GS $30. My scenario allows those people to get what makes them happy while allowing GS to still make money. Win, win right?
  17. That has nothing to do with Groundspeak. Youtube links to 'similar videos' at the end of every video you play. The algorithms turn out some crazy results sometimes.
  18. Box = cache Smiley = cacher green = recent activity ? = Unknown (marked as missing)
  19. NA = Cache is obviously missing and the CO has not checked in in over 3+ months Cache obviously violates serious guidelines Property owner asks me to get rid of the cache I agree with most of your definitions of NM. I disagree with the 2 about insects. You can easily list that in a note. Sometimes I do not take the time to log a NM. If the owner is seriously active then I depend on them to read my Found It log. I usually post NM on ones that appear missing and have an active owner that will then check on the cache. The 3 you point out. 1) Has a wet log and an absent owner. Again not a huge issue and not means for archival. 2) The owner claims it is there so what unless you can prove them wrong the reviewer has to allow it. 3) I agree with the reviewer a few bugs are not means for archival. It is good to point out issues to COs so they can hopefully fix them. However try to avoid worrying what happens after your report those issues (unless they are very serious). My one rule is have fun and worrying about how other owners play is not fun.
  20. I really like it. I don't see why anyone would complain. The ghosting would still show the trackable in the cache so if the next person found it then they can easily log it (many don't know how to log it just using the code). I don't see why anyone would go around ghosting trackables without a visit to the cache, but there are mean spirited people out there so I guess it could happen. I love the idea of getting a separate email about a trackable being missing because some COs may not read the find logs as carefully but will notice a separate email (esp if worded correctly).
  21. Knock-offs of Lock & Lock® containers (in my opinion) are typically a poor choice. They are cheap (in all aspects) copies of a fairly decent item. Good ammo cans are #1, Lock & Locks are probably #2 choices as swag caches. A real Bison-brand tube is tops as a micro. Other things can be acceptable, assuming that its' hide location is already weather protected. True LnL can only be found online in many areas. While I agree a true LnL is superior, I have had no issues with the Rubbermaid brand.I just bought some WalMart brand ones (since that's all I could find) so we'll see how they hold up overtime. Now if we're talking Dollar Store then yeah those aren't good.
  22. Or you could read the other thread that is still on page 1: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=284463 IBTL
