  1. Mine can be somewhat confusing. Ramona: Where I live Ramona CA, Retired : I just retired from active duty Snipe: An affectionate term for naval engineers from engineers. Derogatory term if you're a non-snipe. I'm was a Boiler Tech in the navy
  2. Cool Idea. I'm a cacher whose interested in Sig Items. I've never taken a card per se out of a cache but I always look at them if they're in the cache. I like the baseball card idea. I like to see the history and distance of cachers visiting caches. A side note (and I know the baggie police are stalking me) if you cache in a wet humid area think about laminating or placing the cards in a baggie so they don't breakdown in caches around a high moisture content. Remember a sig item is NOT a replacement for signing the log. A sig item is swag and should be traded retrived as such.
  3. Head Hard hat has some of the best tutorial videos posted on geocaching. People learn in different ways and video (image learning) might be that cachers easiest way of understanding slight differences. Unforuteately posting here on the forums is a crap shoot on whose having a bad day and you get multiple opinions instead of a respected one. I respect the work headhardhat is doing but I always keep in mind that much of what is presented is his own personal opinion and a few minor points are just dead wrong. Here in the forums at least you get a discussion with both sides presented and can then make up your own mind. Here you also find reviewers and many knowledgeable folks when it comes to the guidelines and the evolution of them to the present state. Exactly. I've written and deleted at least two previous posts on the subject. EDIT: make that three. Sorry, I don't consider HHH an authority in the least. I'm baffled as to how RRS would know the difference between good and bad information. Well I'm very involved with alot of cachers here in San Diego with thousands of finds and I've been trying to learn something new every day, whether from local cachers or cachers here on the forums. I'm also a certified instructor so I understand that not all people learn in the same manner. And comparitively his tutorials are heads and above most on youtube. I only stated the HHH was a respected source. I can get alot out of his videos as a beginner. If I have questions I can bounce them off other expierenced cachers. Routinely watching the threads there are poeple on here who will call out another cacher on a dime because only thier opionion matters to them. But you can find that on most forums.

Amianda exactly what I was thinking when I read head hard hats question.
  5. As most of the CITO participants know the eastern group found a rattler all coiled up under a shrub. Watching the news last night I saw a report that shows that the Southern Pacific Rattlesnake venom has become more toxic and snake bites are increasing over the past two years. With this weeks heat surge the snake are sure to be active and just wanted to give everyone on the trails a reminder of what could "what's that under there" be under there. An interesting article that ran yesterday http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/200...mp;zIndex=85242
  6. Great pics of the event. Can't say enough about SD geocachers. They've welcomed and made me feel at home where ever I've been with them. Thanks again Skillet, Team Fatman. Big round of appaulse to the Splashes on the BBQ donation. Can't wait for the fall. Definately brining out the trailer for some serious caching and camping.
  7. Since seeing this thread I've been drooling to get up here. Yesterday GEODC and I attempted to clear the PDTT. We started our ascent from the Warner Springs side of the trail. I knew that a front was coming but was expecting it alot later. We got up to Killer Views from Here (GC1H5GV) you'll see the view we had which all blew in about 30 minutes. So we decided to call it a day. Sometime soon we'll try to clear the PDTT this time going up from Oak Grove and heading up the OGTT to the high point truck and down the Barker valley Trail. Not sure when we'll head up but I'll try to post in advance.
  8. Congrats Lil Splash! Wanna race to 200? Just j/king. It's been an amazing journey to 100 and hopefully plenty more as the numbers continue.
  9. As a Garmin 60cx user I definately would say the 60csx. Biggest attractor for me is the micro sd expansion card. I can load all the street maps for a region and still have plenty of left over memory. I can load 2 500 cache quieries on my unit. As ziggy said the menu and pages are easy to read and navigate. Look around for hardheadhat on the forums he has a great tutourial on the 60csx and ten tips to maximize the geocaching performance of it.
  10. Congrats to GEODC on his First FTF this morning. GC1PRGG out by Lake Sutherland. So many racking up big numbers. Congrats to Duncan! Man 10,000 I can only hope to see that many. And an awesome group to attain such an achievment with!
  11. This is me to a "T". I've only seen a handfull of cards in caches, mostly in AZ. But I'm looking at a pathtag for a personal sig item. It fun to know whose crossed the same paths. I've never seen a great log entry yet in the cache log but once I get to the GEOCACHE page I'll really look into and recall my expirence with the cache.
  12. Yahoo!....4000! and those 4 cats sure are cute! Congrats you 2! We love the cats!!! Thanks everyone, and yes, those cats do look tired...we know just how they feel!!! A lot of milestones goin on! Congrats to Chuy Blond Highlights and to The Fat Cats! Ain't it fun! Way to go Sue and Pam! 5k is right around the corner. I'm sure Chelsea is pretty close too!
  13. While I don't log every DNF, I do log most. The one I dont log is when I'm out caching blind, no hints no clues didn't read the cache page because we're doing well lets get this one over here while we're at it. I'll write down the cache in my logbook go back review the page. If I read the page and clues and I should have found it I'll log the DNF if there's a spate of DNF's I'll log the DNF so the cache owner will go check it. Any puzzle that I do, I'll log a DNF on and use a lifeline too.
  14. Along with carrying extra logsheets I also carry extra ziplocks. If I don't have the time to dry the log I'll place the wet log in a separate baggie (for owner retrieval) and place the new log in it's own baggie. I'll e-mail the owner of the cache once I get home.
  15. Glad to see another cacher addicted. I've found the forums and the cachers I meet all very helpful. You're on your way to your 100.
  16. Would love to hear about your trip. How was the road? Any cool pictures taken? How many showed? Hope to hear soon.
  17. Since you left the cache as found contact the owner of the cache and tell him what you found. It's the cache owners responsibility for maintenance. On a second note if something is in-appropriate remove the in-aproriate material. There are alot of families out there caching. You don't have to replace anything unless you feel like it.
  18. Good idea! 1) Creative cache lovers 2) Discovering cool new spot lovers 3) Hiking/higher terrain cache lovers 4) Numbers lovers 5) Easy cache lovers 6) FTF lovers 7) Trading coins/swag lovers. 8) Puzzle lovers 9) Social cacher (events and/or caching in groups) I'm a 1,5,7 & 9. If your cache deserves it, I'll always trade up. I'm also a newbie that carries a backpack with "extras" and will do some cache maintenace on the spot if the cache needs it. I've completed my first puzzle and had a great expierence. And I'm working on #3 Does eating Eggplant Parmigian count???
  19. I'm sitting here LMBO. Not Macabre at all. As a matter of fact I'd mount it in the head of a cool walking stick and make the walking stick a TB.
  20. You always look at clearance shelves for swag. The dollar store is a montly requirement to replace your swag. When riding shotgun you're always looking for the next great place for a hide. This is the 15th additiced to thread and you don't mind. You've had to buy specialty wardrobe (long sleeve tee's) to prevent another episode of poison oak / ivy sumac. You've cached at the hospital your mother in law is in.
  21. How often do groups get to gether to do this run? Unfortuneately I've already got plans on saturday to be out at Truckhaven fopr the Tierra Del Sol fiesta. But I've been drooling to get up here. Looks like a great day of caching and jeeping.
  22. If the Cache name did not change and the GC did not change then it's not a first to find. It's a first to sign new log (FTSNL).
  23. Poison Oak twice already. This last round needed steriod cream ( with a real perscription and no funny "clear" to go with it. ) Scraped and stabbed by thorns and road rash from falling off a boulder Just waiting on 5-0 to stop me. I'm sure it's coming... You don't know how lucky you are. Even worse I'm color blind so I can't pick out the shades of green. It all looks the same to me.
  24. Definately marked the calendar and put in my watchlisting. A little far out for an absolute postive make it. We'll see after my job interview tomorrow.
