1. does anyone have a list of Offroad 4x4 cahces in San Diego County? I got a Jeep and lifted and modified it so I wouldn't have to hike. So I'm looking for caches that are 4x4 friendly

    There are a bunch in the Anza Borego...but don't go now...you will die!

    I know it. I was supposed to go on a night run tonight in Devils Canyon, but with temps in the 90s at 8 pm, it got cancelled. I just want to get a good list together for when it cools down. for no I'll stick to the coastal caches

  2. Hey all. Just going through the local caches and trying to find some good ones I can hit when I'm out wheeling in Carrol Canyon, Ocotillo Wells, Trukhaven and the like. But so far I have found ONE offroad friendly cache. most of em talk about hiking in a mile and a half and such. who does that? Looks like I might have to start making some caches of my own. I'm in no shape or frame to try and hike over a mile for a ache. thats why I have a lifted Wrangler. Its Hiking for lazy people!!

  3. I don't know if this will help or not, but on a real Windows XP box you have to install some USB drivers that come with the 60C before it will work. I would think that even with VPC you'd still have to install these drivers.

    yep. and i installed em. it still wont read. my roomate and i are goin nuts trying to gedtg this working

  4. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me that someone has come up with a solution to this!!! I am running VPC 6 under OSX Panther with Windows XP Proffesional running on VPC and i am having the exact same problem!! More of a problem is that i dont have a serial port on my Mac. nor do i wish to buy the cable.

  5. I am also currently having a problem with my 60c. I am running VPC on my Mac. its running XP Proffesional on VPC. Basically it wont recognize that the 60c is connected. when i click the box in the USB window, it recognizes it for a second, but then when i close the window, nothing. its as if i never clicked the box.

  6. For Geocachers, YJ = Yellow Jeep. So, unless you get yours painted yellow, your "find" will be deleted. :(

    DOH!! :o well thats not cool. I dont want my YJ (for Jeepers the classification of the square headlight, leaf sprung wrangler) to be yellow! and here i was hopin i could log my first find :o

    Guess I'll have to wait til i get my 60c tomorow :o

  7. there a cache to log YJs??? Hell that means i can go out to my Lifted Green beast and log my first cache right now if i wanted to.

    BTW, the plate obviously stands for yellow Jeep. nothing to do with GPS or geocaching. Us Jeepers are weird people like that.

    So where do i go to log my find on my YJ?? :D

  8. Who has AC?? MY Air condiotioning compressor in my Wrangler has been converted to an air compressor and run into my sealed bumpers to allow me to reinflate my tires and run air tools on the trail (or any time for that matter) right out of my Jeep.

    Too cool!!! I want that kind of setup on my '94 YJ!!!

    beleive it or not, its alot easier to set up than you would think. only cost me about 100 bucks in fittings, hoses, and an air tank and pressure switch. Its one of the best mods I have done to my YJ. (besides the lift and tires of course)

  9. Truer words were never spoken!

    Where is the adventure in hopping into your air conditioned Jeeps and Suburbans and driving to the cache? Put the adventure back into the sport. Get a pack, put it on your back and walk there. We're turning into a country of freakin' latte sipping, Jeep driving, tofu eating, panty waists.

    Very true. But we're a nation of pantywaists and my hiking caches have maybe 2 finds a year. Those urban micros outside of WalMart? They get 2 or 3 an hour.

    :D

    And I hate Tofu <_<

    I think 4x4 Caches would be way :blink: I love offroading. Its one of my many passions in life and i think itd be great to be out on the trail and hear my 60 beep at me cause theres a cache nearby.

  10. Well I am basically a convert being a 100% complete newbie. But, I just ordered my Garmin 60c. it'll be here in three days <_< I first learned about cacheing from a couple of the guys in my motorcycle club (The San Diego Wanderers). And it sounded like just my cup of tea. Aand after reading about it more on this board and site, i cant wait to go find my first cache!! I'm gonna take my roomate along too cause hes a bigger tech geek than i am. (didnt think that was possible)

  11. Decided on my 60c. I got the approval from my Mom. So anyone know who has the bset price price on the little beastie right now?

    GETAGPS has the 60c for 364.99 and if you e-mail that information to tigerGPD they will beat that price. I ordered mine from tigerGPS for 364.

    Sweet! <_< Thanks alot. looks like ill be playin with my new toy very soon :D

  12. due to the fact that i drive a highly modified, lifted, locked, and well equipped Jeep Wrangler with a Warn 8000 lb winch on my front bumper, I'm not too worried about it. But if you do get stuck, keep your wits about you and you can get yourself out.

    carry some form of jack with you. a high lift is best (bumper/farm jack) this way you can jack up your vehicle and place traction aids under your tires (such as rocks or branches) I have had to do this before and it got me out of a nasty frozen over mud hole. just go prepared

  13. Compressed air is not bouyant, and soda cans UNDER the cache would only work if the pipe were VERY smooth inside, otherwise they would jam. icon_razz.gif

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THIS is the PUBLIC face of Geocaching, when someone learns of the sport this is where they come to
learn more, what are YOU showing them?
http://blacksheep.rootsweb.com/
International Black Sheep Society of Genealogists
    not true. ( i assume we are talking about your standard chain link fence post here right?) what you would need to do is fill the pop cans with something with some weight. such as sand, dirt, pebbles, etc. otherwise the cans themselves will either fill with the water when poured in, or develop air pockets and rise out. but you could easily drop like three or four pop cans filled with sand (and sealed somehow!!! or the sand will soak up some of the H20) then put your cache container ( a film canister would be great) in on top of em. think of it along the linew of putting a brick in your toilet tank to displace the water. its the same principle.
  14. We've got some trails in New Mexico you should try. I take my Jeep (Suburban) out quite a bit.
    we will be going through there. we plan to hit Carlsbad caverns and drive through Roswell on our way up to Colorado and Avalanche Ranch
  15. Welcome to the addiction. Jeeps are fun. We used to have one but these days we have a couple of quads that get us around. We have horses too but I hate them.
    Know the feeling. except i loved my horses. Used to live on a 32 acre farm in upstate New York from the time i was bor to the time i was 13. we raised horses and raced them. Also backed up on state land so the quads were great! (can anyone see where my love of any and all outdoor activities comes from? :lol: )
  16. why am I not suprised to see fellow Jeepers on this board ? :lol:
    i'll have to check out jeepz.com. I'm always lookin for more Jeep forums to haunt.
    And MissJen, i definitly know how it is. My baby is in the shop as we speek getting a new 4.0L dropped in with a bunch of other goodies :D
