  1. CelticFC, From my owner logs, I see that you were out in my neck of the woods makin friends. I know exactly which house you were talking about. If I could, I would buy that one in a heartbeat. It even comes with it's own ISQ in the backyard! I work just south of Fishers so lets have beer at Alibi's sometime. Sorry, I can't speak very well as to the diversity of geocachers, but I have seen some in the geocaches themselves. Here are couple that stand out in my mind: Indiana Spirit Quest #280:PC Correct or Incorrect? Indiana Spirit Quest #282: Confederate Railroad In the case of hte latter, while I did expect this section of the cemetery to be fully integrated, I did not anticipate that the Confederate graves would be intermingled with the Union. I was not even aware of the 28th US Colored Troops. What are the chances that three would be here together? Both were very unique sites and must-do's . Check them out when you are back out west. R2
  2. What do we mean by "Worst" ? I thought this started off as a discussion of lame TBs. It appears to have shifted toward a discussion about TBs that are of poor taste. If the latter is true then let me nominate one of my own : Making the Cut! 57Chevy and Chod get gold stars for the really awesome pictures!

I was hoping those boards would have be used as firewood after last years event. I say we have a campfire after the next trail mix to verify that they do not make another appearance in 2007 . Will gladly eat live salamanders in lieu of walking on the boards next time.
  4. RUMOR has it that Prophetstown will have a cache has part of this contest. Way cool!
  5. Potawatomi Wildlfie Park has been high on my priority list for some time. Since most of my caching is of the "just happened to be in the neighborhood" variety, I have not made it there yet. If you put on an event (and pending any significant schedule conflicts) I will be there. Welcome ClayC! I am sure you will find this sport quite addictive. Terre Haute and Vigo County have a TON of caches to keep you busy. That is another high priority desitnation on my long "must do" list.
  6. Four of the parks still do not have geocaches: Lincoln, Whitewater, PROPHETSTOWN and CHARLESTOWN . I guess the still have until the 15th to get them placed though.

    Cats? anyone?

I have said it here before and will say it again... Cats make great swag. You just have to put your back into getting that ammo box lid closed.
  8. For the benefit of the newer folks, the premise for the ANNUAL INDIANA GEOCOIN was to NOT attempt to represent the entire state with one coin. I believe this post explains the concept adopted.
  9. Love Steve Erwin. Loathe the coin idea.
  10. Hey, if the canal one pans out, you can always start a campaign for the cornstalk one for next year! Sorry, I really dislike the cornstalks. Great image, but has nothing to do with geocaching and is definately not unique to Indiana. Any midwestern state could use corn as a "state icon". Now there is a very devious idea! How about a geocache in a cornfield? It would have to be a seasonal thing and the permission would be tough to get, but what a challenge that would be?
  11. Just for clarification and consistency purposes: In Indiana, if it is not state dedicated, then it is not a nature preserve. People tend to throw this term around fairly loosely and there is nothing loose about it. Sorry, it is not my intention to nit-pick, but… BTW: Thanks for participating in the discussion. I realize that you do not speak for ACRES, nor are completely in the loop on this issue. I am too far way to be significantly impacted by this policy, but definately do not want to see it spread on to other land trusts within Indiana. Your insight will be helpful in now all of us interact with our local land trusts.
  12. I have gotta agree with TTI on this. As a matter of fact, I am surprised that the general forum mod did not move it back over here. Ya know, you sorta look like Doobies in that picture. Now that IS frightening! I see from my owner logs that you were out caching in my general area on Monday. Hope it went well for ya. Looking forward to WingsNThings (and Boat Drinks?) III.
  13. Who is Tennyson Jelinek? What is his role? Is the seperate $10 going to support ACRES or going in this guys pocket?
  14. That might be jumping to conclusions, but if it is true you will probably really hear of some folks get their shorts in a wad. Getting paid to geocache on behalf of a Public Land Trust? That would thoroughly disgust me . Those type of organizations are built on volunteers. If you need someone to volunteer to geocache then move on over. There are some great ones up in NE Indiana They will not care about that. Some of those organizations prefer it that way. IMHO *** ****** *********** (self censored - insert name of tree-hugging, big, so-called "environmental group here) tends to be one outfits that will write the articles of dedication such that most of the "acceptable public uses" of the property are so greatly restricted that you need not bother showing up (don't get me started on this topic). This outfit (ACRES) appears to be more progressive than that. This is a good thing. Cool! I did not note any Tiggers, SixDogs, Elwoods, Bluegillfishermans, Paws, Shadows or Buddah's on the list, but whoever it is, take advantage of it. They should know first hand that while geocaching is not perfect, the property should experience a net benefit by havinng geocachers around. With that kind of internal support I would hope it would not be that difficult to sell some sort of volunteer based system that does not require fees and is administered by one of our own with some help from the Indiana reviewer. It always helps to have someone on the inside who understands the sport so we don't get thrown into the same group as mountainbikers and ATV riders. Of course if they do choose to make a more reasonable approach to this, then everyone should be more happy to support ACRES. OK, who invited the pig?
  15. You would think that geocachers would be a rich source of new members for an organization like a public land trust. I am stunned at how they would alienate one of their best sources to recruit new members and volunteers. Again it is very sad / disappointing that it has come to this. Sorry, I would sooner crawl naked through stinging nettle bog on my hands and knees. Is this money not going to ACRES? This sounds suspicious for a public land trust to be handling money in such an unorthodox manner. If I were contemplating paying to place my cache, I would check this out with the Indiana Attorney General's Office first, just as a precaution. To the other extreme, this also illustrates that it behooves us (geocachers) to really show our support to land managers and organizations who support the sport of geocaching either through volunteering or holding more CITO events . We offer way too few of those as it is.
  16. This discussion is also going on this the Midwest forums. I had an issue with one of my recent caches located in a non-DNR nature preserve. The land manager was very supportive and ended up taking my case all the way up to the big cheese over the division of nature preserves. His "ruling" was the geocaches are outright banned from being placed in any nature preserve in Indiana (not limited to DNR administered properties). That not only conflicts with the specific language of bulletin #46, but is also going to cause a very interesting situation with ACRES given that they are collecting fees based on geocache placement (for up to 2 years). It is all very disappointing any way you look at it. Unfortuantely, were are still grouped with the list of "undesireable users" with respect to DNR division of nature preserves and most of the other Land Trusts that administer their own nature preserves.
  17. Hey Earleheart°! I just took my two youngest kids out and found your "For Quacks Only!" cache. I must admit that I would have never dreamed of turing that into a cache container . We loved it! I also just replaced ISQ: Caching in Stile. It is ready to be found. Welcome to the forums.
  18. Yesterday I got to see first hand how the IPD handles "stealth campers", although I think they used the term "squatters" or "vagarants". That did not look like my idea of fun.
  19. I know it is poor form to quote from another thread, BUT...
  20. How about having it in Danville, IN, just west of Indy? I was just at the BRAND NEW Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds and Convention Center. It was much larger than I anticipated and they supposedly have loads of camping. This facility just opened for the first time late last month so when I say new, I mean there is still straw over the grassed areas. They also have plenty of indoor facilities. I do not believe they have a website yet, but I can certianly get some info if interested.
