We actually found one of these coins right north of Atlanta this past weekend in the I-575 area. Better half and I made a run down that way Sunday for the day but I forget exactly which cache it was that the coin was in. It was near Ball Ground GA. though.

A detail or two for the record...............
This coin sat in the cache for 17 days without being found and yes, the Geocoin Fairy's signature was in the log! Very nice handwriting in pretty purple ink dated 10-6-06! So we know for a fact that the fairy did visit our area!
Ye of little faith just have to learn to believe!

It was bought to my attention that on the dieart of the coin, it has Geocaching spelled wrong.
I thought it was a typo for GekoCaching, which was that Garmin sponsored sport that never took off...

It was bought to my attention that on the dieart of the coin, it has Geocaching spelled wrong. Rest assured that it will be spelled right on the actual coins.
Another thing is the AL prefix for the numbers. The coins will actually have the PC prefix unless the sales go over 1000 coins which is the number needed for the AL prefix.

The Alabama Micro coins are going to be produced very soon.
To preorder your coins send a email to alabamamicro@gmail.com with the subject: Alabama Micro Geocoin
The email should include the following info.......
Geocaching Nickname
Name
Address
Number of coins wanted,
Both Regular version and Alabama Resident Only version.
Paypal email addy for billing.
The cost of the coins will be $6 per coin plus shipping.
Here are the detail about the coins..................
The coins will be 32/32nds in diameter and have the epoxy coating.
The Regular version will be Polished Silver and the Ala. Resident only coins will be Polised Silver with Gold plating on the raised surfaces as the dieart shows.
Yes the coins will be trackable on GC.com and have their own new icon!
You MUST have a Alabama Address to order the Alabama Resident LE version coins!

I just read the whole thread - very interesting
The original proposal appears to include a fifth icon, awarded when you got all of the other four
I can find no mention of this unique feature, pro or con, later in the thread
If the feature was ever implemented, I am not aware of it
Can anyone explain how it was supposed to work, and if it ever came to pass
If so, how does one get the fifth icon, and if not, why the original plan did not get done as hoped/intended
The 5th icon myth was just that. Someone suggested it but as the producers of the coins it was never in our plans to have any 5th icon. The only thing that we ever considered as far as Icons went was the 1 Icon for the whole set verses the 4- Icon deal that we finally decided to go with.

Also remember you can't reinforce the edges with tape, and there is a risk of bursting open. That said, I've been told by USPS that there is no limit to thickness as long as you can get it to fit.
You CAN'T reinforce with tape? meaning... you are not allow to scotch tape over the adhesive seal to ensure nothing falls out???
That is exactlly what I was told at our PO. NO TAPE but no limit on how thick without tape! So like Crake says, you are taking a risk of the envelope coming open with a hefty load in it.
