IANAL - and I would suggest contacting a Florida attorney to confirm.  There are several legal websites, especially those for personal injury lawyers, that have summaries of what laws are applicable to your area.  Google search  -   recreation land liability florida

One result of such a search is THIS.

Yes I agree that is a great reference!  I did see in another thread someone posted this:

Cache seekers assume all risks involved in seeking a cache.

I was wondering where it is on the website???

  2. I am in Florida.  Recently while trying to get permission from a land owner I was asked about the liability if permission is given.  Currently I have caches on my "land" and would like to know if there is any specific "release of Liability" while geocaching to hold the landowner harmless.

    Thank you in advance.

In a vacuum of information, there's nothing wrong with that cache name. It could refer to sports/performance cars, speed boats, ATVs... all sorts of toys for adults. It doesn't have to refer to sexual stuff.

It is at an adult toy shop.....

That's sad. Yes I have noticed at the events there are usually kids. I can't believe this guy used geocaching to get closer to these kids, yuck.

Why those maggots have used churches for years.  Makes me sick.  I hate that he used such a great sport to do his dirty.

I place half a RIR strip with my sig in a baggy and place it on top if everything was floating when I got there.

It gets an NM anyway, but there's no mistaking a new log with a signature on it.

I do the exact same thing!  Have supplies with me all the time!

I didn't really pay attention to the latest souvenir run from Groundspeak - think it was called Hidden Creatures and the more caches you found within a month the more souvenirs you got?

Was it 100 finds to get them all?

I heard about one guy who armchair logged the whole 100 caches just to get the souvenirs because, of course, you can do that as you get to keep the souvenirs even if all your found logs get deleted.

Wouldn't surprise me if they were mass logged using GSAK or similar either.

All for a little square of pixels.

    Takes all sorts I suppose.

After seeing what I have seen of people I am not surprised...

I think that's because many people realize there's no point in signing the log. There's no enforcement, no comradery, no connection with the cache owner since most owners don't care about the physical log.

    - how do you know if anyone has really been there?

    • In your mind, what is a high quality geocache? - I personally think that any cache is fun.  I do like to see strong containers that are waterproof.
    • In your mind, what is a low quality geocache? - a painted mayo jar with no waterproof lid
    • What steps can the community take to improve geocache quality? - allow people that hide caches to receive some type of credit (IE finds count but hides don't)
    • What steps can Geocaching HQ take to improve geocache quality? Make sure the app is updated and tested!

Being a cacher that loves to hide caches I put a great deal of effort into purchasing, preparing, submitting and maintaining (other people's and my own) caches.  To think that I may have to see negative feedback regarding my caches from the community would make me STOP hiding caches.  Just saying I love to watch my caches get discovered so to think I am going to have to live up to what I consider a facebook mentality would just be too much for me.  Please don't permit this!

However - I do understand the idea of QA and believe the main goal would be to stop the "mayo jars with no waterproofing"  from entering the caching system to begin with.  Perhaps when SUBMITTING the cache a picture of the container could be appropriate.

    :D

One I can't find!  Either missing, bad coordinates, nano in the woods, poor difficulty rating.

This is important to me also.

I know we aren't supposed to accuse people of cheating, or pass judgement, but seriously... What are they thinking?

I have seen a rather experienced cacher log that they were at a cache.  I was at this cache after.  I did not see the log entry.  I thought perhaps they forgot.  this happened several times.  I wont confront them but it seems a bit strange to me as to why they would go and then not log???

I have lots of Ammo can size caches still, but so often people take and take until there's nothing left in the caches so I now I leave a lot less toys for kids. I can fill a cache with nice swag and unactivated trackables and check on the cache and find nothing but the log. Recently my ammo can stuffed with a lot of themed stuff I bought on Amazon was taken. All that swag gone. I can't afford that.

Ya know if it happened 1 time it may be acceptable but it seems that there are many people saying this.

My vote is that a phone is very comparable to a GPSr these days. I have found 1700+ caches and probably 90% of those have been with my phone. I get instances where certain areas will have my GPS bouncing a bit but that happens with handheld GPS units as well. And the firmware on phones is updated constantly and updates are pushed out. And for handheld units firmware updates don't come out all that often or the user does not always remember to update the firmware.

I think it is that I "believe" if I spent $$ my caching results would improve - lol
