  1. In the mean time, if I understand your request correctly, you can run your PQ, and then use GSAK as your GPX database management software. Once you have your file in GSAK you CAN sort, GSAK calls it filtering, by the “placed by” option. So I think this will work for you while Jeremy works out the details on his end. If you need further “guidance” on this type of filtered search with GSAK, e-mail me through my profile page here on GC.com.

    Happy caching

    Link to GSAK down load

If you are already using third party software for this, I apologize for "preaching to the choir" :P

Edited for spelling, even after running spell check.

GSAK always seemed VERY overkill for anything I wanted to do. When I first tried it a while back I thought..."what the heck am I going to do with all of this STUFF"?

Ok...I am a convert. I used it to filter all the caches from one person (like I asked for) and it worked great.

I am now "slowly" finding other uses for it.

    Thanks,

  2. Could gc.com do a mass email to all cache owners with the information about this new feature?

    Better question, Will they?

And do they want to deal with the slew of complaints they are being spammed?

They are cache owners. I don't think ANYONE in their right mind would consider an email about this spam.

Just like the other person said earlier...that it is not a well known feature. I have not seen it posted anywhere except in the forums.

    Just my .02 worth.

  3. Greetings,

    vent mode: on

Is there someone we could contact, other than the cache owner, to have a TB removed from a cache page? There's at least a cache or two near me that have TB's listed on the cache page and I know for certain that the TB is not in the cache. I've gone there to retrieve the TB and it's gone. I've emailed the cache owner asking him to report the bug as missing but he hasn't done it.

I know it may seem silly to some of you, but moving TB's is part of the game that I enjoy quite a bit and it bugs me when there's a bug listed on the page and it's not in the cache :o

    vent mode: off

Also understand that not everyone knows about the "Missing" feature. I didn't until last week and had a TB listed in my cache for a year with no way to remove it.

I know you said you emailed the owner and told them - which should mean that now they know, but I'm sure a lot of cache owners don't know about this feature yet.

  4. hello friends and neighbors'

ye olde balde headed archie here

okay, i have a question, how does one become a geocache approver.

is this purely a volunteering thing and what type of guidelines apply to approvers.

    next qusetion...

what is the process that leads to an individual becoming an approver, what are an approvers rights, priveleges, and responcibilties.

    regards

ye olde bald headed archie

I think one requirement is you must do everything you can to disapprove virtual caches.

  5. It's interesting to me that so many cachers plan a geocaching trip to the gnats eyelash of detail. They find an area, get topo maps, maybe even road maps to get them in the area, spend hours planning every aspect of their trip. And this is very cool, but what I usually do is geocache by opportunity.

I'm driving through an area, and low and behold there just happens to be a geocache .2 miles ahead, so I stop by and pick it up. I'm board, so I pick up my GPS turn it on, find the nearest cache and off I go.... Work is boring me to death today but 5 miles away I see a cache, you'll find me there in minutes.

How do you geocache, by opportunity or do you plan out each adventure?

    I do both...

The only LOCAL caches are 40 miles away. So I plan them out.

When I go out of town on business I just hit what looks cool.

  6. I was just thinking,

I had noticed an increase of 200 caches in the last week on the About page. I would love to see a graph of the number of caches from...

    1. The last week

    2. The Last month

    3. The last year

    4 From the beginning

    Just a thought.

  7. Amen! There are two or three webcam caches local to me that haunt my nearest unfound list. I just don't like the breed. I used to own a webcam cache, and the website died after just a few months. So many of the other webcams are out of order/difficult to navigate/incapable of taking a photo that identifies the geocacher as opposed to any old muggle strolling down the street. You don't need a GPS to find many of them. They require coordination with someone at a computer, unlike any other type of cache. Heck, I can barely use a GPS and a cellphone separately, let alone at the same time.

But, other folks like them, and there are webcams that take really good pictures. There are some in the nearby cities of Erie and State College where you can see the expression on the cacher's face, close-up. THOSE webcams, I might actually log, if I could figure out how.

Just like virtuals, micros, or any other type of cache, I say "live and let live." But I do hate webcams.

    I agree...kind of but...

Most of the time I HATE most MICROS. So I just don't do them.

Don't like web cams? Don't do them. If they do mess up your ''pristine'' first search page, I guess you may have to do them. :D

  8. Great idea. I'll have to figure out how to include this query.

    Thanks for the quick response!

I can't believe nobody hasn't asked for this before now.

  9. Tried to search forum for this...

It would be cool to be able to do a pocket query for a User Name.

I want to go to an area and find the caches for a certain user.

  10. Yea, I read about that. I guess I'm just trying to find fault with the 60CS because of the fact that I'm now going to have to shell out another $100+ for decent maps. Kinda of bogus in my opinion, but who am I. They should start you out on the best maps available at the time since they're ever-changing/updating anyhow! =\

go to BestBuy and look at the magellan color display.

You forgot that in case of magellan you have to buy SD card separatelly (16 meg card is joke). +$30 atleast.

    Just an FYI...

I tried bestbuy and they have NO DEMOS of ANY gps.

    Bummer.

Anybody know where I can see a M Color?

  11. I currently have the Meridian GPS.

Am thinking about getting the Meridian color.

    Questions...

    1. Does it use the same serial cable?

    2. Will the MapSend Topo program do routing or do I need to buy he MapSend DirectRoute?

    3. The audio prompts...are the "voice" or just "beeps"?

Do you own one? On a scale of 1-10 how do you like it?

    Thanks,

    Kayakanimal

  12. Kayakanimal have you ever linked up your Zire 71 with your gps and used it that way? Oh kayaking is just about the best way to hit those watter lovin caches eh.

Im in a perception and you should se the funny looks we get around here in New Mexico with our sea kayaks
