  1. Having recently got into geocaching in Canada, where I now live, I would love to be able to hide a cache in a place that was very special for me as a child growing up in Reigate, Surrey and which I would like to share with other geocachers.

    Unfortunately the problem is that this place is 3400 miles away from where I live and so I would be unable to maintain it as I only visit once or twice a year. Is there someone who would be willing to maintain it for me? If so please could they contact me by e-mail.

    I should mention that the location is in a National Trust wood (which is always freely open to the public) - is there any problem with that in the UK? I haven't noticed any specific restrictions on National Trust locations in the rules.

    Thanks

  2. <snip>

    What benefit would you gain by knowing who is watching the cache, other than a little bit of trivia?

    <snip>

    There's a lot of people out there who are fanatical about their privacy, and making the names public would probably result in a lot of people no longer watching caches.

    Sheer curiosity that's all.

    Privacy already exisits to the extent people want it by having handles instead of real names and by not requiring anyone to put anything to identify themselves in their profile. That seems to have been thought through pretty well by the system designers. If it were still really a concern you could have a "Watch anonymously" option.

  3. Having just released our first travel bugs and set up our first cache we noticed that it says "x accounts are watching this cache"

    Is it possible to find out who is watching one's own cache/travel bug?

    Would there be a reason (other than technical complexity) for not making that information available to cache/bug owners?

    Thanks

  4. There seems to be a bug with the geocaching.com database that is reporting TBs to be in places from where they have clearly been removed. The kids were really disappointed yesterday when "Disappearing Spot" (http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?ID=10492) had disappeared from "The Crew's First" (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC3795) even though the listing says it should be there. When we looked at the TB's history we found it had been removed, and recorded as having been removed, from that cache on 2nd March 2003 (and is now in the hands of a deadbeat who hasn't moved it on apparently, unless this glitch has prevented them from recording that fact). I have mailed support about it but only today so wouldn't expect a reply just yet - nevertheless this was frustrating for the kids especially.

  5. So NZMapped seems to have the most favour in a very small sampling here - I too am visitng NZ for a couple of weeks in May and had the same question as collinsonrienteer.

    The prices seem to be all over the place - NZMapped seems by far the most expensive and TUMONZ by far the cheapest (just NZ$95 for the whole country at 1:50,000) but, as far as I can tell, they all seem to have much the same functionality. Can anyone provide any further insight as to why they favour one over another?

    Thanks
