  1. I also run Linux at home, the Ubuntu distro. There is a program called GPSMap that is Garmin compatible. I haven't tried to get my 60CSx running on it yet so I make no guarantees. It is supposed to only allow for very basic mapping functions so not sure how useful it'll be. You also might be able to get Map Source running under WINE, again haven't tried it yet because I just got my 60CSx last week.
  2. You can download the manual from Garmin here - http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/GPSMAP60CSx_OwnersManual.pdf Is this the same one it came with? I don't have my manual here at work to compare them to see.
  3. If you're looking for bags that pack small, are light, warm and of exceedingly high quality I'd advise checking out the Western Mountaineering bags http://www.westernmountaineering.com/index...Sleeping%20Bags
  4. Is there any reason you can't list this cache with one of the other cache listing sites? Could you edit the cache description to appear the way the reviewer's wish it to be, but provide a link to the other sites it's listed on and then on the other sites describe it anyway you want, provided it's allowed. Just curious if that's OK or if it breaks some rule here?
  5. HTML isn't that hard to learn, at least enough for the basics. I used this website to help learn the basics to writing my own HTML code, Virtually Ignorant. From what I learned on here I set up my own webpage here - My Webpage - ShiftlessBum.com. It's a pretty simple webpage but it's mine, all the pictures, the words, and the code, everything.
  6. I have a bunch of photos here on my website - ShiftlessBum.com - Photos You can also check out a little Photostory thing I made here - Photostory of various Panos I've taken
  7. Glad to see I'm not the only coffee snob that wanders into the backcountry. I really don't like instant coffee and love the taste of a really good cup of coffee, especially when I roll out of the tent in the morning. It's a little bulky though it dosen't weigh much. I picked this up at a yard sale in the late '80s and it's seen more than one trip with me. Usually it only comes along though if there is going to be more than me drinking coffee. The smells of fresh perked coffee while sitting in the alpine is what heaven has got to be like. Usually though I just take this - http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail....D=1205330640753 - It works great, not usually any grounds in the coffee, is only 205gms, and makes a nice strong cup of coffee.
  8. I've had my Magellan Meridian Gold for quite a few years now. The first day I ever had it out of the house, I was snowmobiling with it just sitting in my pocket. It dropped out at somepoint and I didn't notice it, by the time I noticed it was missing, I had no idea where I'd dropped it at. I organized a search party, I was at a Scout Camp at the time with 4 Troops in attendance and even with all of us looking for it, we couldn't find it. I figured it was a write off. The temperatures that night went down to about -25oC. While having breakfast this lady walks up to me with my gps asking if I knew what it was, and if I knew who lost it. By the amount of "scuff marks" on it, I had run it over with the snowmobile at least 3 times. I turned it on, worked perfectly, took all 4 Scout Troops geocaching with it for the day and have no problems with it at all. And then there was the time I dropped it in the lake while canoeing.....
  9. Thanks all. I'm looking forward to placing my first cache. I even have an idea for my second one already, just looking for the right spot.
  10. Thanks, Renegade. I kind of thouht so, but wanted to make sure. Didn't want to put it out and than have it refused for such a minor thing.
  11. Howdy, I'm trying to put together my first cache. I have a location already picked out, and even managed a theme for my cache, but I do have a question. I see in the guidelines that no knives, or pocket tools are allowed. I have a small swiss army tool, I'd like to include. It does not have a knife blade on it all. It has a small pair of scissors, a pen, a pair of tweezers and a flat head screwdriver/bottle opener on it. Would this be acceptable? Or would this be the thing that didn't allow my cache to be approved? Thanks!
  12. skeezickz from skeeziks an archaic word meaning mischief maker. if you knew me it would seem appropriate! or so i've been told. LOL
