  1. most coin vendors are small operations, and do not have 24/7 service departments I would advise waiting until Monday or Tuesday to hear back from them
  2. I seriously doubt that Groundspeak would do a reset on a trackable item unless the request came from the current owner of the item it is also my understanding that any such reset is done only rarely, and only if there is a very good reason for doing so
  3. it has been my experience that some reviewers will archive a geocache that has been disabled for "too long", no matter what the reason or season and there are others that will be a little more flexible so, you can take a chance with the disable strategy, and hope that you get an understanding reviewer if not, you can just re-list the hide in the spring (and hope that somebody else does not invalidate the spot by hiding another geocache too close to your desired coordinates)
  4. if you were a premium member, you could run a pocket query for only regular and large (or large only) geocaches, centered on your home coordinates (or other point of your choosing) you could go to any list of geocaches, centered on a point of your choice, and scroll down, page by page, looking for any with regular and/or large container size if the trackable owner is that eager to have their item move, and they are a premium member, maybe you can get them to do a pocket query for you, and send you the results if you have a friend who is a premium member, perhaps you can get them to do a pocket query or two for you note that you can also add filters to a pocket query to screen by difficulty and/or terrain rating, and omit/include caches of variuus types (multi, unknown/mystery, etc)
  5. a few questions that you will probably want to ask - activated or not ? if yes, are you willing to agree not to delete any existing logs more than one version or not many coins have been made in a variety of metals/finishes/etc some collectors want them all, others are happy with a single example more than one identical or not some collectors got duplicates of coins, perhaps to trade the extras if you buy their entire collection, you may get some dupes condition have any of the coins travelled have any of them experienced any wear-and-tear when shown at events how have they been stored how will they be shipped knowing up front what you want (and what you are willing to settle for) will make for a transaction with fewer surprises
  6. I just read through my post, and realized that there is something missing a trackable must be moved between "inventory" and "collection" (and vice-versa) so, you can have an item that is marked "collectible" in your inventory, but it will still act as though it is "non-collectible" - for example, someone could grab it from you in order to gain the protection of the "collection" status, you must move it from your inventory into your collection similarly, a released item that is collectible will move just like a non-collectible item, until somebody retrieves it (or grabs it) into their inventory, and then moves it from their inventory into their collection
  7. MrsB nicely covered the two most common situations - 1. marked non-collectible, set free 2. marked collectible, kept just for completeness, here are the other two, lesser-used combos - 3. marked collectible, set free every so often, someone will set an item free, and allow somebody else to keep it typically, this would be a personal geocoin but as long as the feature is available, I would not rule out other motives this is probably a very rare situation 4. marked non-collectible, kept if the owner wants to "dip" the item into geocaches, this would be the best status items in a collection can only be discovered or have notes posted it is worth noting that putting an item that you plan to keep into your collection keeps it from showing up on your inventory when you log a geocache, thus saving you from having to wade through them when you want to drop off a travelling item
  8. way beck when, there was a website called ItsNotAboutTheNumbers.com the site is long since gone, but it had some handy features for example, both you and your friend could download your "all finds" queries to the site either of you could then compare the two PQs showing geocaches that you have both found, geocaches that neither of you has found, found my one but not the other, and vice-versa I do not know if GSAK or any other software will do this for you, but the fact that it was done before at least indicates that it CAN be done - - - - as for legal issues - your PQs belong to you if you share them with someone else, that is your prerogative and since you are the only one who can run an "all finds" query for your account name, then you have complete control over who sees it and who does not
  9. I'm curious about the source of this. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=273473aka - "release notes", topic "Geocaching.com site update May 4th 2011" look for item 26060
  10. I believe that Groundspeak recently made this a little more difficultas of a few weeks or months ago, newly created accounts were not allowed if they used the same e-mail address as an existing account another method would be to put them all in an archived geocache that you own (or in an un-published geocache that you own) this lets you see all of the items at a glance, on an inventory page
  11. a good rule of thumb - if you are not willing to see an item go missing, do not put it into a geocache this is just as true for trackables as it is for swag - - - - trackables go missing for many reasons - mistaken for swag taker is not aware of what a trackable is lost in transit taker innocently believes that keeping them is allowed outright theft some of these situations get corrected in the fullness of time - taker gets educated taker finds item at the bottom of backpack - - - - there are several things that can help, but no sure-fire solution - release a proxy mar the item in some way bag the item with specific instructions add a laminated card with specific instructions refuse to release it - - - - if you have a nice item that you want others to see, my recommendation would be to keep it, put it into your collection, and share it at events, via "discover" if you want to see an item go on a journey, there are several low-cost alternatives, such as aluminum travel tags - they may still go missing, but it does not cost as much
  12. only you can put a trackable item into your inventory typically via a "retrieve" if it is in a geocache or via "grab" if it is in the inventory of someone else to fix the current situation, you will have to do a "grab" to get the item back into your inventory optionally, you could then delete both of the "grab" logs, leaving the "discover" - - - - to keep this from happening again, you can do the following - 1. grab it back into your inventory 2. edit the item 3. make it "collectible" 4. move it into your collection items in a collection can only be discovered, not grabbed
  13. my weekly newsletter had that informationincluding a link to request a trackable, and another link to enter the sweepstakes I suspect that this information was only included in newsletters sent to members identified as residing in the USA
  14. I would advise extreme caution on this eBay auction 1. there is no picture of the coin this suggests that the seller does not actually have the coin (at least, not yet - and who knows, maybe never) 2. it is against eBay rules to sell something that you do not actually have 3. the coins are from the Netherlands, but the auction says France makes me kinda doubt that the coin makers are involved in the sale 4. the seller has zero feedback draw your own conclusions on this fact if you bid on it, and win, I would suggest using one of those services that acts as middleman you and the seller send money and the item (respectively) to the service once they have verified that all is on the up-and-up, the funds are released, and the item is sent along to you better safe than sorry the best advice that I can offer is "don't bid on this item" wait and see what develops in the way of legitimate sales by the coin creators if the past is any guide, there will be other opportunities to get one of the coins via an eBay auction, and most likely from a known seller with a solid history

    Coins by Crake

you might want to try sending Chris an e-mail he may very well be more than happy to provide you a list of the coins that he has been involved in making - - - - also of possible interest to you - some of his coins had versions (finishes) that were not generally available for example, the "geohana" was made in at least two finishes one for general sale, the other for sale only to addresses in Hawaii other coins also had small runs in finishes that were not generally available I believe that many (most ?) were donated by Chris for sale at events and for other fund-raising purposes if my memory is working correctly, "tracking time" was generally available in a bronze (antique gold ?) finish, and a rarer version was made in a pewter (antique silver ?) finish I believe that the same is true for the "Rhode Island" coin such may also be the case for other of his widely-sold creations I am also aware of two versions of the "bluebonnet" coin one with hard enamel, and the other with soft enamel I believe that this was a result of two mintings, and that both versions were sold to the general public in typical production quantities (500 or so of each, which was typical for that time period)
  16. if I understand correctly - you did a retrieve, but deleted the log entry, but you want to "restore" the log entry if this is the case, the item should now be in your inventory here is what you can do - 1. clean-up - delete any extra logs for the item (such as a discovery) 2. put the item back into the geocache (go to the geocache page, do a "write note", drop the item when you submit the note) 3. delete the note made in step #2 (do this for both the geocache and the trackable item) things should now be back where they were before you started 4. retrieve the item (go to the item page, do a retrieve, write what you want) 5. done !
  17. it all depends on what you did, and what you meant to do some logs do an action when you make them (eg, a "drop" puts the item into a geocache) this is why you are not allowed to change a type it would require undoing any actions, and the system is not that sophisticated deleting a log entry just deletes the log it does not undo the action that was associated with the log so, for a couple of examples - 1. if you did a discover, but meant to do a retrieve, drop or grab - just delete the discover log, and do a new log with what you intended this is the simplest case, since there is no action associated with a discover 2. if you did a retrieve, but meant to do a discover - there is a little more work involved here the retrieve removed the item from a geocache and put it into your inventory you will need to drop the item back into the geocache then delete both the retrieve and drop logs (not absolutely essential, but nice to do so as to avoid clutter) then do the discover that you originally intended if you had some other combination of error and intended actions, you should be able to deduce what you need to do from the examples above
  18. if you want to change it right away, I believe that becoming a premium member will do the trick
  19. "night" geocaches are identified via attributes, rather than type so, you can have a traditional night geocache, a multi night geocache, an unknown/mystery night geocache, a letterbox hybrid night geocache, etc the attribute in question would be "recommended at night" a pocket query can be used to filter for geocaches with/without a particular attribute
  20. this website - http://pbrady.bangor.ac.uk//osgbfaq.htm indicates that there are conversion functions available for Excel
  21. all coins in 2002 could be termed "swag", even the moun10bike 1, as none were trackable on geocaching.com back then.it is my understanding that Moun10Bike geocoins, USA geocoins and travelbugs were trackable from the very beginningat that time, the tracking number column in the database was actually a number (as opposed to the alpha-numeric code that is used today) numbers 1 to 10000 were for Moun10Bike geocoins numbers 10001 to 100000 were for USA geocoins and numbers 100001 to 999999 were for travel bugs until Jeep came along that was it there were pleas from several sources for their items to be made trackable all were politely but firmly rebuffed until Jeep came up wuth the incentive (read $) to have the database column changed to alpha-numeric as for dates - go have a look at some of the earlier M10B geocoins the activation dates are as early as 2001, and there are logs for that same year
  22. my marbles my temper my mind my patience my cool my composure my focus I have gotten most of them back
  23. that seems a little surreal to methe website offers searches by zip code so Groundspeak must get the information from somewhere and if it gets updated from time to time, somebody at Groundspeak must be doing it does the left hand not know what the right hand is doing ?
  24. must be some kind of weird regional/cultural thing in my neck of the woods, the raffle is the highlight of the event (well, after the food, maybe) donated geocoins, swag, ready-made geocaches, etc tickets are sold to cover the costs of of renting the venue and other overhead sales are always brisk
  25. I just thought of a possible solution . . . place a geocache in a 100% valid location near the cemetary inside this geocache container, have a message that says - "if you would like to see a very special monument that is quite close-by, here are the coordinates"
