  1. One of the things that you should probably do sooner rather than later is decide what it is that you want to collect A short list of possibilities - GeoCaching.com trackable - elsewhere trackable - non-trackable Any one of a given coin - all of the variants Genres - themes (eg states, organizations, events, odd shapes, personal, etc) Some combination of the above (including ALL) If GC trackable . . . unique icons only or don't care (which is to say, are you collection icons as well as coins) All else being equal, GC trackable adds $1.50 to the price of each coin Trackable elsewhere will probably also increase the price over non-trackable If you are getting your own coins made and want to trade for variants of other coins (made in lower numbers or with extra features), you will probably want to do the same for some of the coins that you have made for yourself Quite possibly the best advice that I can offer is for you to spend a few hours a day for a couple of weeks reading the entireity of a large number of threads in this forum topic, in order to get the most from the experiences of others You asked about prices . . . You could probably get a few hundred stamped non-trackable coins made for under $4.00 each The same number of molded GC trackable coins with color would be in the $6.50 range Add to both for larger size and/or special features Per-coin price goes down the more you have made of the same coin at the same time Reading the forums will expose you to the real-world cost experiences of several dozen people You should also find directions for how to get estimates from various manufacturers If you just want to get a few to see if it is something that you want to do, keep an eye on the "bargain bin" at GeoCoinStore.com - they had a half-dozen or so coins there for $3.75 each a while ago (all sold out now), and are talking about making cheap trackable coins a regular offering In short - it can be just about as simple or as complex as you choose to make it . . . and educating yourself first is probably a very wise strategy
  2. Also remember - Any valid e-mail that you get from eBay or PayPal will address you by name Never "Dear Customer" or "Dear Member"
  3. Please register me as someone who will be interested in buying these coins Thank you
  4. Info on the coin can be found here - http://www.thecachingplace.com/shop/pc/vie...mp;idproduct=46 Info on the group can be found here - http://www.utahgeocachers.com/forum/viewto...7f9e9ac2750b2bb . The former is from memory, the latter via a Google search .
  5. Unless something has changed . . . It is my experience that while retrieve/grab/discover logs are allowed for trackables owned by the same account as the one where they are being logged, no credit is given for such logs In other words, if you own a trackable (meaning that it was activated on your account), you are free to log it in any way you wish, but such actions will not change your trackables find count The same is not the case for caches - you will get credit for logging your own hides
  6. One way to minimize the dashed expectations is to name the coin - Name of GeoCoin - COPY RELEASED This alerts the potential searcher that the coin is a replica
  7. D: create an account for the purpose of owning the coins This solves the problem of clutter when dropping trackables It has the added advantage of allowing you to "discover" the coins on your main account and get credit for them
  8. Trackable geocoins that already have a hole in them (in no particular order) IRC Poffertjes Event 2006 Geocoin (aka muffin tin) Fliegenpilz Geocoin (aka red mushroom) Anthus Decoder (except the XLE versions, which have a lense in the hole) Generic Geocoin World Travel Geocoin Kentucky Geocoin Makin Tracks Geocoin GeoNut Geocoin SunshineGang Geocoin mtn-man Admin Brick Geocoin Phone A Friend Geocoin Utah Geocoin Walpurgis Night Geocoin China Geocoin (aka Made in China) not really a "hole" as such, but could still be strung on a necklace/bracelet - Mcdoodles Geocoin (aka Texas spinner) Satellite Series Geocoin (version 3) DiverVan Geocoin Spin Geocoin an added small ring, so that the coin can be hung as an ornament - German Geocoin (bronze/silver/gold medallion version) Germany Geocoin (Cache Atlas version) Worldchampionship 2006 Geocoin I believe that Moun10Bike also made similar items, and called them "coinaments", but I have not seen one of these in person I suspect that this list is not complete, but I imagine that the above would weigh enough that you probably wouldn't want to wear them all at once anyway
  9. To the best of my knowledge, there is no "unactivate" function for trackable items Most likely, for the same reason that there is no "delete a cache" function The archive (for caches) and "mark missing"/"move to unknown location" (for trackables) functions freeze the item in time - all activities that have occurred for the item are preserved Unactivate (or "delete a cache") would effectively reverse time What to do with logs, notes, retrieves, drops, finds, discoveries, etc ? I suspect that the designer(s) of the system have resolved that question by not permitting the action to take place Bottom line - be sure that you want a trackable activated before you do so - you can't take it back
  10. Well . . . I am fairly new to the forums, and I haven't gotten myself flamed yet, so this may break the ice For the life of me, I do not understand how the subject of the last few posts in this topic is the business of anybody except Semper Questio and mystery person X (who bought the coin in the first place) If SQ has an issue with MPX selling the coin, I would imagine that SQ would take it up with this person It is not my business, and I don't see how it is ANYBODY's business, other than SQ and MPX I do not believe that anybody else is entitled to be involved in the matter, unless invited by one of the two parties I do not believe that anyone else is even entitled to know the outcome of such a situation, unless such information is distributed by one of the two parties In short, why can't we all just mind our own business ?
  11. Definitions for folks new to geocoins Trackable - having a place where the movements of an item can be registered Most often an internet site There are sites that offer tracking other than GeoCaching.com Here, we are only concerned with GC.com trackable items Note that there are trackable items other than geocoins - eg travel bugs and yellow/white/green Jeeps They all work exactly the same on GC.com Icon - a little picture meant to represent a trackable item They show in many places on GC.com - search results list, cache page, user homepage, trackable page, etc Every trackable on GC.com has an icon In this thread, "with icon" more accurately means "with a unique icon" Geocoins with no unique icon are lumped together with a "generic" icon that looks like a coin with a cent sign Activated - the trackable item has been registered at GC.com A trackable cannot be tracked until it has been activated Some trackable items have already been activated - eg Moun10Bike geocoins and Yellow/white/green Jeeps Combinations - Trackable, no icon - not possible Not trackable, icon - not possible Trackable, icon, unactivated - brand new Trackable, icon, activated - able to have it's movements tracked

    Will it go MIA?

I just discovered this thread, so please pardon the late input . . . These maybe/maybe-not muggles might very well already have a GPSr Many people who fish have a unit so that they can mark places where the catch was good, thus facilitating a return to the spot If I am not mistaken, pre-SA/off, sales of receivers were mostly to hunters, fishers, and other outdoor recreation types, for whom 100-foot accuracy was just fine
  13. I would like to have one of each variant/finish, please
