  1. My vote is $12.00 I would say $12.12 but that is too many pennies to deal with. Every year the price point comes up and there are many opinions on it, but ultimately the event organizer sets the price taking into account what the event goers can handle and overheads in minting and shipping, my shipping last year was $104 so the $11 dollars I set and felt reasonable as a price (along with may other event organizers) but that meant a smaller amount of profit from the coin sales to put back into the event... so it was a quiet affair, this year will be bigger so the coin price may increase to off set what I have planned. Just my 12+ dollars worth Darn, I'd forgotten about shipping - and duty and exchange. I'm going to have to revise my price. Guess it's going to be $12 for me too. I'm assuming these have a special icon.
  2. Thank you. Both our eTrex 30s decided to do that at exactly the same time as we were trying to log the same cache. After that, no cache was available except a few within a few km of our house -- a PITA when you're 600 km from home with 1000 caches loaded into the GPS. This morning I cleared the files and reinstalled one of the GPX files -- all those caches now show up. I have to say that this is not my favourite GPSr. I had better luck interfacing with my Legend HCx.
  3. I really like the design, both front and back. What would be the parts that we would customize for our events? I would really like one that has the colours of the Labrador flag (green, blue, white) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Labrador
  4. I have the same problem now with my eTrex 30. Yesterday morning we had at least 150 caches to go look for then in the space of 30 seconds we had none. Not one cache shows up but when we tried to install a pocket query we got the message that all those caches were already there. If we search the unit they show as being there yet nothing shows up when we go look for them by name. We had a pocket query for caches in the area we were visiting but the only ones that showed up were 700 km away.
  5. How about "'Til we meet again at 01-01-01"?
  6. Is it too late to get in on this coin? I've been considering an event here in Goose Bay, Labrador on that day.
  7. If your coin is going to stay with you, in your own collection, and it's not move going to be moved in and out of any caches (including event caches) then check the box "Make this trackable Collectible". You can then move it to your own Collection and it won't appear in your Trackables Inventory which shows items waiting to be dropped into caches. If you're going to release it to travel through caches then it should be designated "Not collectible". If it says "The owner hasn't set a collectible preference" it means that the owner hasn't selected either option when the item was activated originally. The option may not have been available at that time (if it's quite an old trackable) or they may simply not have understood what it was all about. I understand that if no option has been selected the trackable default is "Not collectible". MrsB Thank you for this info. Although I have a few coins that only visit caches, I have never activated coins I don't intend to release, having always believed that the point of the collection was to have unactivated coins I might want to trade some day.
  8. I hadn't activated any TBs for a while and recently when I activated a coin I came across 'Collectible Preference' on the activation page. What exactly is that and what does it mean when an owner 'hasn't set collectible preference'?
  9. Yes, I'm very disappointed this morning. Activated one for use at a caching event tomorrow only to find that icon. Wonder what the problem is. Volanges
  10. Does anyone know why when we bring up all the cache listings in an area we don't have the option of sorting them according to the different criteria listed? Often I'd like to sort them by name, or by type or date last found but can't -- or am I missing something? Yes, I'm aware I can look specifically for a type or for a specific cacher's hides or finds.
  11. Moving question to another section
  12. I was watched carefully by the MPs while on a 5:30 am quest to be FTF of a cache on the local military base. While they didn't approach me, I was caught in the act by the Base grounds cleaning crew about 2 hours later. They didn't say anything and I left quietly, unaware that the location of the cache was a favorite hiding place for the local high schoolers' dope stash. Said grounds crew had found dope there numerous times. They looked in the preferred hidey-hole and found the cache. Not knowing what it was they were leaving with it, when another cacher who had been keeping an eye on the site came running up, having realized what was happening. He was the one who explained the game to them and retreived the cache from their possession. Several weeks later, another of the caches within base boundaries went missing. The local geocachers blamed vandals but it turned out to be another gounds cleaning crew who had found it and were preparing to turn it over to the MPs. The first crew, recognizing what it was, took it and turned it over to the geocacher who had taught them about it.
  13. I found out about geocaching through CBC radio, first about a cache in Labrador then when Sheila did an interview with the original geocacher. Wanted to try it from the very first moment but it was about a year later that we spluged on a GPS. In our small town there are 3 families & 1 youth trio who geocache with a few cachers in a community 500 Km away. We've gone from 2 caches within a 100 mile radius on March 25/04 to 19 caches as of yesterday. It caused great excitement when a new name popped up on a cache site recently -- a visiting military person from Italy. But would a lot more publicity improve things? I don't think so. There was an article on Confluence hunting in this months edition of Downhomer magazine (read by Nfld & Lab ex-pats all over the world), with a sidebar about caching. Interest might pick up everywhere due to that.
  14. Found two benchmarks today in Labrador. Would like to be able to record them here.
