  1. My company(Weyerhaeuser) always volunteers to help this cause. It is very worthwhile and alot of fun.
  2. looks like i'm a minority too. I was born and raised in California. I just went down to San Diego and I must admit it was tough to come back to this rain, snow, hail, wind climate when I was just doing hikes in 65 degree and sunny weather. As far as stench goes Oregon definately smells better and Oregon is much cleaner of a place. My wife couldn't stand the amount of insects down there especially after that monster cricket we stumbled upon. Both places have their good and bad. Sidenote: Looks like we have a Rock fan amoung us.
  3. we're far from any of you. Only 16 weeks and counting. Congrats to everyone. Quite a few in my neck of the woods
  4. I put the second set of coordinates in a logbook in the first cache. I also put both waypoints as seperate caches and call one a bonus
  5. That would be correct. I rephrased it though quote:Originally posted by oregone: quote:Originally posted by DenaliNW: I did notice that the link to the web page where you post your answer does not work. I think you replace the word "firstword" with the first word of the answer to the riddle. all rights reserved, all wrongs reversed
  6. please let me know if this cache is too hard or just right. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=16967
  7. I personally feel that a person should not leave a full cache while on vacation. That to me is littering as one has no intention on upkeeping frequently. If you want to leave something leave a TB or hitchhiker. quote: So what about all those caches out there that people hide while on vacation? Often times I don't know if the person who placed it is local or not. MANY around here are placed by visitors and to the best of my knowledge not maintained by anyone. Those people are the hardest to reach by email, too, oftentimes with obselete, old emails. I wouldn't want to drive ANOTHER 130 miles roundtrip to fix a cache that wasn't mine that I'd already been to. Maybe write in the logs that the cache needs repair and hope the next cacher is an experienced one? That may be the next best approach to fixing the _really_ bad ones... I like the idea of a CRK. I will try to remember to take it with me from now on. But, I'm the kinda guy that leaves his trade items, camera, kids, etc in the car when I get to the parking spot. Go! And don't be afraid to get a little wet!

  9. I'm missing something here. Geocaching.com is a Groundspeak project. Groundspeak is owned by ground inc. Who is ground inc.?
  10. I agree with all comments but the person who hides also has the responsibility to maintain it. Don't just hide and leave. I check on mine every 2 weeks. Also when one hides they should see what nature will do the the area come spring and summer. I have been to caches that are nice now but are right in the middle of blackberry bushes that will make it near impossible to get to near summer.
  11. so true Makaio and you'd be wrong anyhow
  12. so true Makaio and you'd be wrong anyhow
  13. After reading all of oregone posts one has to ask will Oregone have a girlfriend by summer
  14. I'm thinking of trying it to see if I get lucky. Remember it has a camera or something to the north.
  15. sounds like one of my caches. Not speaking for whoevers cache this is but myself personally gear my caches for the beginner just starting out. I am in hopes I generate enough interest so others will hide caches in my area as I am the only one doing so. Nothing will turn somebody off a new hobby quicker than failure. I set 5 caches starting from too simple and progressing to mildly tough all geared towards beginners. None of the descriptions give the location away but the hints on the simple ones will pretty much tell you where it is.
  16. New to the game? Feel free to ask questions here. We're glad to help! That is the desciption for this topic. This is a group for newbies just starting out. Why do people feel the need to write the response (not word for word),"It already been covered", "Do a search" and some get more rude than that. I can understand that comment in other groups but personally nothing would turn me off of a new hobby more than a rude person. If a repeat question offends somebody so much then don't answer it, or point the newbie to a FAQ of the forum. I bet money that everybody in these forums at one time or other had a repeat question. OK done now...thanks

  18. I would like to know more about this company. When it was founded, how many workers, What other projects are they involved in etc. All I know about is Jeremy and Geocaching. Is there a grounded inc. website?
  19. to support the site. Most of my caches are geared towards newbies to the sport thusfore I would not force them to pay. One thing I hope for is that the members only caches are worth being members only(i.e spectacular views, nicer prizes). I don't want to pay a fee for caches that are run of the mill. Just my opinion
  20. anyone else having problems with posting or replying to messages. It returns to the main forum page 2-3 times before it takes
  21. quote:Originally posted by shellann: I hope this is not a dumb question. I have a palm III and I see ebay has a lot of gps plug-ins you can buy for reasonable prices. Will these work for geocaching? Thanks from a Neo-geo What is reasonable? You can get a basic e-trex for around $100. Waterproof and rugged and works good for caching. I'm not sure if I would take a Palm out on 2.5 or above caches. I was about to buy an adapter for my Ipaq but glad I didn't. It's not that they don't work well it's just I wouldn't trust but appt. book, phone numbers, etc out on a rugged hike, you never know what could happen. Good luck and let us know what you decide
