  1. Wow, if your departure from the game was anywhere near the date you joined the site you definately have been out of the game for a while. I'm kind of new myself, but let me be the first to say welcome back and happy caching!!!!
  2. I have no idea, but I'll take a wild guess that somebody a bit more ambitious than I can check. Is it possible that maybe if you're not signed in that maybe the history is not viewable? That's my big guess, Good luck in your search for an answer.
  3. For once I'll keep my answer short. I like your idea of a hospital to provide a bit of first aid to travelers!
  4. From time to time the conversations here on the forums can get a bit heated so it's always good to read a "feels good" story like this. For a first attempt getting 6 out of 8 while searching at night is a very impressive accomplishment. Every time I read one of these type posts I immediately remember my first 2 finds and how great it felt. So basically I thank you for sharing and welcome to the fun! P.S. Not everybody will agree with Gitchee-Gummee about logging your DNFs. However, I would wholeheartedly just for the fact that someday in the future after you've gotten a few hundred finds you may want to check your earlier logs and the DNFs in conjunction with your Found It logs will help bring back the great memories from that fun filled night. Of course there are no rules that I'm aware of that say you must log a DNF so do what feels best to you. Most importantly keep getting out there and having a great time with your family!!!!
  5. As stated by others already an auto GPSr can be used, but a handheld GPSr is definitely more desirable as it's designed to be more rugged and water resistant than your car GPSr. I think if I were in your shoes I'd be inclined to get your hubby hooked on the sport too and then I'd casually mention that you'd read that handheld units are really a superior way to get involved in this fun past time. Also, maybe leave the internet turned on to a site with good prices on the unit you'd like and let him "accidentally" find it on that page the next time he uses the computer. Yeah, basically let him think it was his great idea. Or, if money is not really a big issue is your home then just tell him hey I want to buy this new "toy" so how about I get this and you can get yourself something nice too? Welcome to the fun!!!!
  6. It's great to see you on here again! Welcome back!!!!
  7. Hello again. I just wanted to let you folks know that if you're interested I've listed one more RC Auction. The link is below: Robin Hood Quiver and Arrows geocoin RC Charity Auction Have a great week! Just a quick update. The Robin Hood's Quiver and Arrows coin auction will end this evening and the others that I'm auctioning for RC will end Sunday night. Thanks to all that are supporting this great cause!
  8. Welcome to the fun and congratulations on your first find! I've only been at it for about a year and a half so I'm kind of a newbie myself, but I still love it. The best advise I can give to any newer person to this fun activity is that while it's really fun to do it by yourself or with adults the fun factor goes through the roof when you take kids along. Happy caching!!!!
  9. You sure can log your find since this time you found it. There are a few who'd say to change your DNF to a Found It, but I think the majority will agree with me that you should leave your DNF as you'd previously logged it and just enter a new log dated for the date you found the cache. Personally a lot of us are very proud of the ones we've DNFed in the past that we've since found so our DNFs are an important part of our caching history. That's my 2 cents.
  10. Hello again. I just wanted to let you folks know that if you're interested I've listed one more RC Auction. The link is below: Robin Hood Quiver and Arrows geocoin RC Charity Auction Have a great week!
  11. Hi everybody. There are 3 more auctions on eBay with all of the proceeds going to River Cacher and his family. In case anybody wants to check them out I'll provide links to the auctions below. Thank you to everybody that is bidding and supporting RC and his family. 2009 Compass Rose geocoin RC Charity Auction Japan 9-9-9 geocoin RC Charity Auction 2007 MIGO Fall gecoin RC Charity Auction
  12. Just a heads up that these auctions are still running through this evening. So if anybody's interested they may want to bid soon. Happy caching and coining!
  13. Hi Mike. I hope you don't mind me making a request. I don't know if you (and other sellers too) are aware of it, but 1 out of 10 males is colorblind to some degree or another (color blindness in females is very rare). Most of the guys that have this problem only have it to a very minor extent and lots of times don't even realize they have a little problem with color vision. Then there's the minority like me who have it worse and do struggle with this "problem" on a daily basis. I find that with my colorblindness "handicap" that lots of times it's about impossible for me to identify a metal type on pictures of geocoins. So to help me and the other colorblind guys out if when posting pics either here or on your website if you (and other sellers too) could under each picture identify which metal type is shown above. It's not a major deal, but if you could do that it would make one less little frustration in life for me and other guys. I realize you probably can not accomodate every request that every person makes, but I wanted to throw this out for your consideration. I love this coin and can't wait to see it in person! Congrats to both you and Jackalgirl on a beautiful geocoin!!!
  14. I'd have to vote for I think it was A the head and rainbow. Thank you for the cointest!
  15. I've got one duck TB that's racking up some serious milage. I mailed it to a geocacher in South Africa to start it on it's journey there. It's not only traveled all over South Africa, but has also ventured north to Qatar. I'm happy to report that although the logging of it is a little messed up at the moment it's back in South Africa and I'm looking forward to following it's travel through that beautiful country again. I wish I could go there myself, but watching my duck's travels on Google Earth is the next best thing. If you'd like to see my duck here's a link to it's page: CLICK HERE to see my Duck With a Bad Attitude TB
  16. Hmm. For me personally if you contacted me I would reply with a very sincere thank you for wanting to help out my traveler in getting some very BIG milage. However, I would also reply to you that while the offer is appreciated I'd prefer it to travel only by way of cachers physically moving it from location to location. I'm sure there would probably be folks who would take you up on the offer and be thankful that you offered to do that for them. So I'd say even though I would decline the offer it's nice of you to offer and I'm sure some would take you up on the offer. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as you have the travelers owners permission.
  17. Very nice coin! When I saw the thread about a similar coin from a different seller that never materialized I was afraid nobody else would take on a similar design coin for fear of being mistaken for the other seller. You see my daughter is a huge lover of dragonflies and although from reading your coin description it is not technically a dragonfly, but it is close enough that I'm sure she'll love it. I only intended to buy one for my daughter, but after seeing them I ended up having to get one for my own little geocoin collection too. Congrats to the 2 designers for taking a good idea and improving on it. Thanks also go out to Cache Addict for the rollback pricing! In this tough economy that made the difference between buying only 1 or 2.
  18. You asked if this is a widespread problem. In my opinion the answer is yes. I can't tell you the percentage of Garmin eTrex units that have this defect, but I can tell you from reading around here on the forums it's not a rare occurance. Last Spring I bought a Garmin eTrex Vista HCx and I think it was August when I had to send it to Garmin for warranty repairs for the rubber banding falling off. I've read where some people here blame it on leaving the GPSr in a hot car or using in hot temps outdoors. Then there are others that feel that maybe there' an interaction of chemicals from maybe sun screen or mosquito repellant sprays on the users body that causes the banding to fall off. I can guarantee you that I never once left my Vista HCx in a closed up car and never used sunscreen or insect repellent and mine had the banding fall off very quickly. From what I've read this problem has been going on for years and Garmin either can't or won't fix this defective design flaw. The most shocking part to me is seeing how many folks who have had this problem and then just say oh just use some electrical tape to hold it together it's no problem. Well I guess I'm in the minority but I was very disgusted to find out that Garmin has known of this defect for years and it's still ocurring. I guess I'm in the minority, but the way I see it companies should not sell items that cost $200 and have known and ignored defects in them. And why people who get these defective GPSr's and remain so loyal to the company that sold them a piece of garbage really baffles me. It's because of the problem with the rubber banding falling off that I got rid of my piece of defective garbage eTrex Vista HCx and bought a Delorme PN-40 and have not regretted it for one second. My advice to you is when you get your Vista return it immediately and buy either a Delorme PN-30 or a Delorme PN-40. They cost about the same as your Vista HCx, but are completely paperless, have maps included at no extra charge and they don't fall apart like the eTrex line seems to do pretty regularly. If you're not familar with the Delorme GPSr's read up on their reviews at Amazon.com . They are a HUGE step up from the eTrex line and if you catch them on sale their price is about the same as an eTrex Vista HCx. Good luck!
  19. Well it looks like I'm going to be the only one to say I like the coin idea you originally had. For me the only "creepy" part would be not wanting to spill any ashes while putting a small amount in a geocoin. So to avoid spilling a bit of the dearly departed the opening in the coin would need to be as big as possible so you're not trying to pour Uncle Henry into to tiny hole say the size of a pencil lead and more ends of on the floor than in the geocoin. It's kind of interesting to see the difference in responses this question gets over here in the geocoin forum. I've seen it brought up a couple times in the TB forum and a few agree with the majority here on this forum, but most over there seem to express thoughts that it's perfectly fine and they basically like the idea. I guess even though both of the forums are here on Groundspeak, but they definitely differ in perspective on this topic. Thanks to the OP for bringing it up. It's been interesting to see the difference in the different forums opinions.
  20. I'm glad you like it and thank you for your bid. Probably next week I'll have a final 2009 Compass Rose auction for the RC fund. I think the next one is with a translucent red so there's one more in the planning stages. Thank you to everybody who's bidding on these auctions. All of the bid proceeds go to the RC fund so feel free to bid to support a fellow geocoiner and his family during a tough time.
  21. Greetings! I sent you an E-Mail via your profile page and it has the 2 E-Mail addresses you need to send auction funds. Sorry it's kind of wordy, like all my writings, but it is kind of important that you read it all prior to sending the funds. Happy New Year!
  22. Hopefully the new year is treating everybody nicely. I just listed 3 more RC auctions on eBay. Unfortunately I'm having to charge a small s/h fee on these and future auctions to cover the cost of bubble mailers and postage, but the good news is that Mike will continue to receive all funds from the auction bids. Anyways, the links are below if you'd like to check them out. Happy New Year everybody!!!! Pororoca Ride the Endless Wave geocoin RC CHARITY AUCTION Jack of All Cache gecoin RC CHARITY AUCTION 2009 Compass Rose geiocoin w/ translucent green RC CHARITY AUCTION Good luck and thank you to all that bid!
  23. Hi. I'm sure there are other ways too, but the way I've done it in the past is by going to http://www.itsnotaboutthenumbers.com/ and using their free site to get the approximate miles I've traveled while caching. It's been a while now since I've done it, but basically you sign up for a free account on the web site I mentioned, get your My Finds pocket query here on gc.com, plug that PQ into the site you created the account at and after a short wait it will spit out all sorts of interesting geocaching statistics and charts for you to read or put on your profile page. If my memory is right the number miles you've traveled is kind of in the smaller print so keep your eyes open for it. Good luck!
  24. Hello and congratulations on becoming a Delorme PN-40 owner! As a non-premium member you have to load the caches one at a time. What you really should do to fully utillize the capabilities of your PN-40 is spend the $30 a year to become a premium member of Geocaching.com and then you can load pocket queries directly to your PN-40. A pocket query is a group of up to 500 geocaches that you can download to your GPSr quickly and easily and then you'll have the entire cache page for those 500 cache caches right on your GPSr.
  25. Hi. It's been a while since I've done it myself so I'll apologize up front for my very fuzzy brain that has almost no memory capacity. If you follow the instructions that came with your update cable and go to http://mygeomate.com/ at that site there is a little software application that you need to download to get the update cable to work. I'm not sure, but I'm wondering if maybe you're trying to send geocache info from gc.com to your Geomate Jr.. If so that would be incorrect. The Geomate Jr. can only get the updated list of caches from http://mygeomate.com/. I will send the company rep that frequents the forums a link to your question so hopefully he can be of more assistance than me. The folks that manufacture the Geomate Jr. are always very friendly and helpful so check back here to see if they've responded yet. Good luck!
