  1. Personally, I don't... but i suppose each person has to make their own decision. I prefer to log tbs and gcs that i have had physical contact with...
  2. +1 from me.. if they want to do something, do it properly, or dont do it at all....
  3. not very... Unless the person travels in Aus, Alice Springs is a place you never go, unless its for work or travel... If i ever went there, it would be mostly for that cache and for a cache in that state... Might have a chance though...
  4. I'm hoping to do something your D4/T5 in the near future... hopefully i will get around to it...
  5. this is how i do it in the official geocaching.com iOS app. Once you have the corrected coords solved on paper, go to the geocaching app. Open the cache Go to Navigate to Geocache At the top there are three dots(or a flag) depending on the app version you are using. Anyway press on the flag(Add Waypoint in the latest app version) when you find it. Insert new coords and save the waypoint. Click on the waypoint Select 'Set as Target' Your GPSr will now guide you to the geocache or the next step of the puzzle(to the coords you entered in the waypoint anyway)... Hope this helps...
  6. this is cool as... i'm ranked in between 2300 and 2400 in finds for Australia... oh well, not that good, but constantly improving funny when you look at it though, i recognised quite a few names...
  7. Autosync would be good, so I'm giving it a +1.
  8. Never new about the At feature... I just looked at it, and many of the coins are missing...
  9. Would be interesting, but I don't know how other cachers would like it... I wouldn't mind it though
  10. Given how easy it is to convert a date into a different format I wonder why an unambiguous format isn't used in emails, log texts etc. "5/3" could be May 3rd or March 5th depending on what format is used. But display it as "05-Mar" and there's no ambiguity at all. I agree with that... Just out of curiosity, why did the US change it in the first place? isn't it logical that the shorter amount of time appears before the long e.g. day/month/year?
  11. Agreed, but my ipad and my parents iphone are on auto brightness i think.. It does go up, but the problem is that the battery loss is much larger when using the geocaching app, inside or out. But a good point... And my wifi is normally off unless I am at home... Don't see how it could help as there aren't wifi networks every where around here, and isn't the inbuilt GPS good enough? That is a power consumer, definitely
  12. The app does not control how much power the GPS chipset in the device consumes. Have you tried measuring the discharge rate with another app that uses the location services, like google maps? I've used Maps (iOS 5 so still Google) and it lasts way longer. Never an issue. I'd say I get about 3 hours of use if nearly constant (like when I'm storm chasing). I do blame some of the rapid discharge on the cold (I have NOT replicated the above in colder temperatures). I have just the solution for you: It's a wood burning camp stove that converts heat to electricity. When the battery gets low you can start a file then heat up a cup of water for some hot chocolate while your phone recharges. I've noticed that whenever I use almost any app that uses location services (i.e turns on the GPS) that after a while my phone is noticeably warmer. I saw this in a few places but didn't have a good look at it... Looks pretty interesting for when you are camping... Pretty cool device anyway
  13. Pretty sure they don't exist... You'll probably have to use another app...
  14. We're not saying you can't have an opinion, it's just that other cachers have more experience and have seen more caches. We're just saying that you need evidence/experience before you go and say that there aren't enough kids caches. There are many kids caches, and this is proven. The other thing is that Groundspeak has clearly stated that every cache should be open to everyone. If you want you can create a cache geared for kids, which there are many of already. However, you can't say wh can and cannot log it as found... We're not attacking you, it's just that if you read the guidelines it is clearly not possible for somethinglike this to happen. If you have experience, you would know there are caches directed to kids, and you would know that caches are for everyone, young and old. Also, there is an attribute on caches that is called 'kid friendly', and you can see it on some caches on their description page. These should be optimized for kids to find...
  15. I think this is a bit of a pointless thread... hardly anyone wants to see the distance shortened, and you can't make it longer. You would have to archive thousand of caches if you did.
  16. Wow, you guys put a lot of effort into preserving logbooks!!! I have not had to do anything like this so far, but i suppose i would just replace it with a new one. The logs are all online anyway, and it could confuse caters... Plus, i'm a bit lazy to do what you guys do
  17. Have fun finding as many as you can... I'm nearing 300, but i dont think ill ever get close to finding even 50,000 (considering i'm young and technically could be a cacher for another 60yrs)... 2mil is a big goal, but enjoy it!
  18. Must've never noticed it... but i still think it looks cool...
  19. Your friend will need to log the TB as 'Grabbed from Martymarquette' When he enters the unique code on geocaching.com. You are allowed to post your own in the mail TBs if you like, but always ask the TB owner before you send someone else's. It's just a personal choice whether the owner wants it posted or just to travel with a geocacher. Once your friend logs it, he can visit it in a cache and it will count the kms. To follow any of your TBs travels, you just mouse over Your Profile and click on (Yours) to the right of Trackables. To follow someone elses TB, visit its page and click on 'Watch This Trackable Item'... If you want them to try to get home to you, remember to include that in their mission... And also, although it's sad to say, be prepared to lose some of the TBs on the way, because it is likely to happen.
  20. I think you can ask a moderator to...
  21. have permission for the location you will be putting it... DO NOT dig holes for it... Put it in a place that you are willing to go again in the case that you need to go and maintain it. Have fun hiding it, and hide a cache that you would enjoy finding(you mentioned that).. And avoiding common is good...
