  1. I just had my first TB go from Chicago to past the Grand Canyon on vacation with a cacher, and enjoyed all the "visits" logs along the way to see its progress between here and the cache it was dropped in. It would have been far more boring to see one big straight line between here and there and not see all the states and cool sights it visited.

This is how I see it

  2. Hi, I'm from Australia and am interested in seeing the aus forum. I know that there won't be much traffic there, but on the forums.geocaching.com page it says that there are 644 topics. However when I open it, there are only 5 topics there. Am I missing something?

    Any help would be appreciated...

  3. Bummer.

And the page even has instructions to tell you that you have 90 minutes to complete the task.

At the one hour mark, you should get to see a pop-up on your screen as a warning:

This person states there is a warning.

I don't think he is stating there is a warning. First impression is that you "should" get to see it, as in it doesn't happen but it should.

If that's not what he means, he is being sarcastic altogether.

Anyway, consider the image. Do you really think that GS would use something remotely similar to that as a warning?

No offence intended, but it happens to most people at some point(loss of information), and you just have to get over it.

I think a good solution for you would be to write up your cache description on MS Word or some similar program, and then just paste it into the description field when it is ready....

  4. I visit tbs in my possession whenever I find a cache and the TB is with me. I'd not see a problem with that and don't see how it is useless. A TB is supposed to travel, and visits do that. If I grabbed tbs and dropped them in the next cache I find, they would never travel. However, if I keep it and visit it in caches, it might travel several thousand Km's over several months. I like my tbs to get dipped as it shows that they are still moving. I agree that c:geo auto visit is annoying, but I don't have a problem with visiting...

  5. i dont think that a percentage, even if there is one, would be accurate. most TBs that go missing aren't marked as such, and become Ghost TBs.

For example, as hzoi said on this thread:

Just to throw some statistics into how useful this function would be, and how much I look forward to it being added to the site:

In the past two weeks alone, I went on a road trip and found cache after cache that was empty of trackables despite inventories that promised two or more trackables. I left notes on 79 trackables that were no longer in the caches where they were listed.

Of those, the majority had been missing for a year or more. Most for two or three years. I think the worst offender had been missing for about nine years.

I have left over 500 similar notes over the past six years and change that we've been caching.

It would be swell to see this badly needed function added soon.

that thread has some good insights and is trying to fix the problem of missing TBs not marked as such...

  6. GSAK deserted me when I made the jump to Mac OS.

You could always use Parallels or VMware to be able to use GSAK on your Mac...

I would as I use Mac, but I don't need it as my parents use a pc so I just have it there...

  7. The owner of the bookmark list (FluteFace) and Sandy from Podcacher.com have resolved this issue:

My apologies for the mixup. The event has been added to the bookmark list.

    Thanks for your patience,

    Flutey

So happy flashmobbing, enjoy your souvenir and have fun - as we will on our side of the world :D

    Greets,

Thanks for that! i'm still trying to convince my Mum :(, but hopefully i'll make it.

    Thanks again

  8. I could predate the log, and that is what I thought was the most obvious reason. For statistical reasons though, I would prefer to put the correct date as the log date.

Can one ask contact@geocaching.com to apply it and state the reason for it not being there already?

Or can a lackey answer this?

I can't go to an event on the Saturday, and even if I could, it wouldn't be at the same time as the FM in the US, so it kind of defeats the purpose of wwfm.

No need to worry this year! Sandy from the Podcacher Teams (Organizers of the WWFM Events) cleared that up in this post.

This year, the souvenir will be awarded as soon as anyone logs an "attended" log on any event on the official bookmark list. There is no requirement that the logging must be done within a certain number of days. This will make it much easier on event hosts and all the attendees.

Nice. BTW: if you happen to be in Germany on the 4th of May... why not try this WWFM Event: GC44DYM :D

    Greets,

    RaNa2009

And for completeness, here's the Bookmark which contains the complete list of "official" WWFM X events: Podcachers WWFM Bookmark

I was having a look at the bookmark list. it doesn't have the WWFM event i'm thinking of going to. Perhaps this is because it is on the next day?

Is there a way to let them know to add it? The event in question is this one :What Time?

    Any ideas?

  9. The poll is asking should we (in 2013) break the record set on 11-11-11.

    my bad lol :)

    sorry...

if they had put 'set' before 'on 11-11-11' i would have gotten it...

    Anyway,

    My bad...

GC Poll : Should the geocaching community attempt to break the record again for 'accounts logging caches in a single day' on 11-11-11?

I agree with your initial reading... On 11-11-11 is outside the single quotes, which makes that the day of the attempt to break the record mentioned inside the single quotes. Thus it is two years old.

It is asking about another try to break the record mentioned on a specific day.

Positioning of the single quotes is important here... but only to the meaning.

Perhaps they meant to change the date yearly?

That is what i thought... I don't feel so silly anymore :)

Thanks for the info... That's what I was looking for.

    I would've come, but I won't be in Germany :)

    Thanks anyway,

  12. I was having a look at blog.geocaching.com today, and noticed that the polls are slightly outdated...

Has anyone else noticed? Can GS update or remove them?

Here's the one i saw today:

    IMG_1103.png

I think you are totally ms-understanding what you think you are reading. While I think it's stupid, its not outdated. One of the few things Groundspeak has correctly stood by is that Geocaching is NOT a competition, though many cachers refuse to accept that.

I would be more interested to see Groundspeak fix the site so it would actually be able to handle a new record number of accounts logging finds, without dragging the site down to a standstill. I suspect we won't be reading about that problem in Latitude 47 any time soon.

Hey, i think you are misunderstanding what i am saying :)

I'm saying that the poll refer to should we(future) on 11-11-11(2yrs ago). This poll is not relevant anymore. I'm not saying its a competition or anything like that...

I am also interested in seeing feature updates. I was just mentioning that this is 2013 and i saw a poll on the blog relating to 2011...

    That is all.

    Hope its clearer now :)

  13. So the time for WWFM X is 10:00 Saturday 4/4/13 in California... Right?

I am thinking of attending a WWFM X event, but we're in Australia. There are events happening during the Australian day, but they are not in line with the US, so it kind of defeats the purpose of the WWFM.

However, this event is organized to be held at the same time as the US, or 3:00AM local time 5/4/13(or 4/5/13 for you americans). The thing is, this will already be on the 5th, even though it is in line with the US times.

Will we still get souvenir for attending the event? I think that we should get it, as we are doing it at the same time as the rest of the world is meant to be....

    Any thoughts?
