  1. Both the 76 units have 1.5X2.2 screen size - Garmin lists the 60 series as the same screen size of 1.5X2.2. Where did you see the 1.2X2.2 size?
  2. That explains it. When I read "download" I assumed the maps could be downloaded. Thanks!
  3. I found http://maps.nationalgeographic.com/topo/search.cfm topo maps from National Geographic that you purchase by the state. They're 1:24000 - which should have more detail than the Garmin TopoUS at 1:100,00. The page I found describing them says they can be downloaded into a GPS. http://www.trailsillustrated.com/acb/showd...ID=945&CATID=35 thanks
  4. I'd like to find good topo maps for downloading into a Garmin 60C. I don't hike in National Parks - so that rules out the Garmin National Park maps. I've looked at the Garmin Topo US maps and would like to find something with more detail. Is there anything available? thanks...
  5. Will these new units be mobile/handheld? or are they being designed to be used on a vehicle (boat/car)? Does anyone know if you can load topo maps into them? City Select?
  6. I'm lucky, I'm upgrading from a II+ to a 60CS. It'd hard to get an arguement when you upgrade every 6-7 years.
  7. I saw a note earlier today that the 60CS would start shipping Feb. 23rd.
  8. I had a Dell laptop that an employer (State of Kalif) provided. I'd had an IBM thinkpad prior to the Dell and labeling the Dell as a piece of junk would be kind. I hope yours works better than mine did.
  9. Can it switch from Landscape to Portrait mode like the GPS III+ and the GPS V? No, it's portrait only. I've got a couple of questions - Can it do autorouting in the GPS? Does it autoroute on 24k topo? City select? Metroguide? Base map?
  10. My wife ordered me one of these new Garmin 60CS things for Christmas. I don't know why, I've had two other GPS's (an early Garmin - I think it used 3 channels) and a newer 3+ or 2+ - and I never figured out what to do with them. I gave the first one away, the newer one sits in it's box in a closet. Moving on...I notice that this 60CS can have maps downloaded to it. I'd really like to learn how to use this one. What map programs should I get? Are there a lot of options? Garmin sells a bunch of them, is it best to buy from Garmin since the GPS is from Garmin? I read it comes with something called a "basemap". What is this? I spend a lot of my time in the woods, if this thing could display topo maps it would be useful to me. Does anyone know if they can zoom in and out on the map being displayed? How much of a map will this one hold (it's got 56bm of memory), but not knowing how big a map is I have no idea how much of one fits. Does it take roadmaps too? Is there a good roadmap I should be looking into? Given she'd hinted at ordering one of these, I wandered into an REI store a couple of weeks ago and tried to find answers to some of these questions. I had no luck, the fellow working there said they didn't work inside and he couldn't show me any of the mapping stuff. thanks for your help....Hank
