Isn't Area 51 in New Mexico?
Believe your thinking of Roswell NM. Area 51 is about 75 miles, as the crow flys, from Las Vegas.
Make sure you mean Las Vegas, NEVADA. We have a Las Vegas in New Mexico, too!

Well -- when I found the fireworks, I took them and threw them in the trash nearby.

P.S. I can handle firearms without help...

I recently found a cache that had some fireworks in it. Now, I'm not one to worry, but when we already have caches being blown up by bomb squads, should we really allow fireworks in ammo cans?
Or is there really nothing we can do to control this anyway?

I found a way to do this, but it's pretty hokey --
I use a Garmin GPS V, and when I create a route in MapSource, then upload it to my GPS, Google Earth Plus gives me the option of downloading that exact route to Google Earth. It works, gives me the same route in Google Earth, the GPS, and for my PQ, but as I said, it's kinda hokey.

A good start is the APRSSIG --
List-Subscribe: Subscription page
or send an email to aprssig-request@lists.tapr.org with the subject=subscribe
I think either of these two URLs will get you there. Be sure to let them know at the very beginning that you're not familiar with APRS but you want to give it a try.
I'm currently using the unit seen at hamhud.net but it requires a separate TNC and transceiver. The Kenwood rigs seem to work OK for transmitting your position, and I think other stations show up on their display, too, and they work fine for mobile use, the Kenwood HT would probably work on a bicycle.
Of course you can run any of these at home if you're so inclined, but it would be better to use one of the computer programs, UI-View being my choice. WinAPRS is also out there, and DosAPRS -- or maybe he calls it APRSdos -- (the original program which started it all).
Oh yeah, you can see me at Findu.com

I noticed something similar and just figured I got a bad download or something. I ran the "myfinds" query and it only showed 41 finds -- I actually have 99, although I got 4 or 5 since I ran the myfinds query.
Is it possible to re-run myfinds with less than a week passing in this case?
Tnx es 7 3

I had just this scenario happen to me TODAY. I took the trouble of taking the 18-wheeler down a narrow road, getting out and searching for a cache where a Green Jeep TB was supposed to be. The jeep was nowhere to be found, but I found a note on the TB page where a guy picked it up back in JUNE! I sent him a message suggesting he grab the TB from the cache, but geez -- am I the only one who noticed the TB was missing for OVER FIVE MONTHS?

So -- I have picked up the same Geocoin (TB1AVA0) TWICE now and brought it back to Texas from Oklahoma. The stated goal of this coin is to "Travel about Texas. No Events except for Patriotic Events." Each time I have brought it back, I've put something in my log entry about "bringing it back to Texas as per stated goal".
Right? Wrong? Rude? Or just trying to help accomplish the published goal?

I'll chime in here -- I posted already on a different thread, but I want to make sure this is seen --
I regularly use the maps to find caches, but I can't do that now. The area where I am just doesn't have that many caches, and the new map layout won't show me ANY caches unless I zoom down to smaller than 15 miles. When I do that, no caches are within my search area. It's about like a drunk stumbling around in the dark to find something on these new maps.

I have a very difficult time believing that an error of one mile or anything near that magnititude is the norm.
There must be other factors that account for this event here.
However, I wouldn't use one to place or hunt a cache if the accuracy were 3 ft.
I'm wondering about the phone -- some cell phones claim to have GPS when they are really triangulating a position from cell sites. That isn't too accurate!

Seen A Famous Person?

Well -- let me think of them all -- not while caching, but I've met a few people you may have heard of.
When flying home from Marine Corps boot camp in 1977, Omar Bradley was on the same plane as I was. Of course, as a PFC it was hard for me to approach him, but I did!
I've played trombone for 40+ years, and I was in a "pickup" band for Frankie Valli once. The Fireballs were on the same concert, and in fact, they live in this area. I never knew! And of course, the recording studios here in Clovis are the ones made famous by people like Buddy Holly!
I've met or emailed with well-known trombonists around the world, too -- people like Denis Wick, Doug Yeo, etc. Of course, if you're not into "high-brow" music, you may not recognize these names. Oh, JJ Johnson, too, God Rest His Soul.
Met the Mangione family on an airplane once -- I approached Chuck, told him he looked a lot like someone, and we really like the music "that guy" produced! He was really happy to have a perfect stranger tell him that.
And I went all through school, from 1st grade through high school, with a guy named Steve McMichaels -- you can read a little about him here -- he got his nickname because he used to imitate the character with the same name from the Blazing Saddles movie. He was a good fighter back in high school, too, but don't ask me how I know!
But not while caching -- I tend to try and be as private as possible while caching. Usually if I see another person around, I wait until they're gone or I can't stay any longer, in which case I skip the cache.
