  1. I'm a law enforcement officer and was patrolling, in uniform and in my marked vehicle, near an area where I had a cache placed. I saw some people who were obviously looking for it and stopped to say hi. They were pretty freaked out for a moment, stuttering to explain what they were doing. I quickly let them off the hook and said I was the cache owner. They were pretty releived and we had a nice visit. :)

  2.

I have a 60cs as well, and I have not been really happy with City Nav. V8. it works fine, but it is very limited. FYI, all of Nebraska and COlorado are six maps for 41 mb of memory. I don't know whether your statement about "twice the memory is true or not, but I sort of doubt it.. The problem for me comes not for loading areas, it seems to load about as much total area as City Select did. The problem is that if you are traveling, you have to load large amounts of unused space to get the areas you want, and that eats a lot of your valuable space. 56 is not much to work with, and this does not really help the situation.

    edited for a correction.

    Thanks for the info.

So, are the Navigator maps not broken into as small of "chunks" as with Select? Perhaps that is what the commentary on "twice the memory" was based on. On Select, Denver is eight maps alone, CO is 22 and NE is 15, and you are saying that with Navigator, ALL of NE and CO are six maps? I can see where that could be a problem loading enough maps to travel. Right now if I'm traveling out of NE or CO, I just load enough to encompass the corridor I'm traveling.

What other limitations have you experienced?

    Thanks again,

    Scott

  3. I've been putting off spending the $75 to upgrade from City Select to Navigator, but thought for those non-GC purposes for my 60cs (finding a place for my wife to eat or shop when we travel  ), it may be nice to update.

I've seen some grumblings on a non-GC forum about how City Navigator eats up more memory for the same maps. Does anybody know if this will be a problem with the 56MB 60cs? I usually keep all of Nebraska and Colorado loaded with no problem, but I don't know how much memory those take and don't know how to check. And I worry about if there is any truth to the statement that City Navigator maps take up twice as much space as City Select maps did for the same area.

    Thanks,

    Scott

  4. I am a law enforcement officer, and I've placed a couple of caches in my area. I was out working one day, came across a couple obviously searching for one of my caches and stopped to say "hi."

They got real nervous, tried to hide the GPSr, and said they were just out for a walk. I told them they were about 10 feet from the cache and they gave me a puzzled look like "how did you know?" I explained that I placed the cache and we talked for a little bit before they finished the find.

I've always wondered why they had that nervous streak however...:D

  5. I have a Palm Zire 72, and I'm looking for a good, cheap program to download caches to so I don't have to print out pages for the caches.

I download the waypoints to my Garmin 60cs, but I like having the printout along to read the desciption for hints, history, and fun facts.

    Any recomendations?

  6. Regardless of how you feel about whether or not pot is "evil," this should be reported. (I know how I feel, but that isn't the debate here.)

If this guy is growing and/or harvesting pot illegally in a rural area, it is probably not for personal use. Hence, he may view people trampling through "his" grow area as a threat to his business. There could be booby-traps or the danger of the grower himself.

Pot dealers/users aren't all funny, happy, cute burnt-out hippies like we laugh at on TV and in movies. They can be violent just like any other drug abuser.

Be safe and report this before somebody gets hurt.

  7. I have a 60cs with firmware 3.4 (I know, I could go with 3.5 but haven't done it yet), and I am trying to use it with EasyGPS 1.3.7. I am unable to exchange info with the serial cable. I keep getting the following error:

No data was received from the GPS!

    (Error #22)

You should quit this program and turn your GPS off before proceeding.

If you need technical assistance, please visit http://www.easygps.com/support.asp.

Details of this error have been logged to

    C:\Program Files\EasyGPS\EasyGPS_Message_Log.txt.

I have the GPS set at Serial Data Format: Garmin, and the EasyGPS on Com 2 (withOUT the USB box checked).

I've tried Com 1 and the other Serial Data Format settings, but to no avail. I keep getting Error #22.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Scott

  8.

I have tried repeatedly to remove my photo from my profile, but to no avail.

I go to "Edit Your Profile," "Change/Edit" under "Your Photo," select "Edit your image" underneath the only photo I have (which, incidentally has the "Current Photo" button shaded and unable to click on), then click on the trash can (delete) icon. When it asks if I'm sure, I click "yes" then get taken back to my profile page where my picture still sits.

    Help!

    Any ide'ars?

  9. I'm not sure how to delete your photo, but for now if you don't want the photo of yourself on there maybe you could change it to a different photo until you get the delete part to work.

    Your a Geocache Cop?

Thanks for the idea, I'll give it a whirl.

Logging out and coming back doesn't help. I'll just come up with a new photo...

Yep, a Geocaching cop. However, that photo is from the agency I used to work for, so I thought it was time to change it. I changed jobs last fall.

    Thanks,

    Scott

I've emailed support several times, but have received absolutely no response.

    Any ide'ars?
