  2. Yep. I won't tell you how long it took me before I noticed the map link on every TB page which shows you all the moves the trackable has made in its travels... MrsB I have to say i spotted that one quite quick, but i have not worked out how the little movement tags work. they dont seem to be the amount of moves or the days/ weeks months that they have been there! unless i am having one of those moments! Peter
  3. Blast, some I still can't find! I'm still a newbie at 600+ finds in 3 years Thats why i am still a NEWBIE TOO!
  4. HI MrsB I know that, but when i look all i can see is a list of TBs and normally a group of TBs but no indevidual details on each. Now i am still fairly new to all this forum stuff, but i a working on it! So i am wondering how i could look at other indevidual details from a group of 20 TBs that are not listed seperately. It would be interesting no know. Thanks Peter Ahha! Yes, a group of TBs listed (in your case, it shows 6). If you click on the TB icon under your "Trackables Owned" it will bring up the list of all those six TBs, where you can then click the links to show the individual TB pages MrsB AHHHH I see clearly now the rain has gone! Thanks for that Just goes to show that even i can learn some thing new each day!! Peter
  5. They seem to have been doing this for twice as long as you have - don't you think that label's a little harsh on both of you??? Hi I would consider my self as a relative newbie, as i think i am still in the learning curve! I think that once i can go out and find all that i am searching for, i will be fully fledged!! This may take several years in my case ut i am woring on it. I would also consider from my own point of view that others with a count below 50-100 as still in that learning curve. I dont think this seems to harsh, do you. But i cant wait to become a fully trade Jedi like the rest of you!! Peter

  7. Congratulations should go out to Rod Thekennel@79 who has just reached his 1000th yesterday. Well done and thanks for all the caches! From all in the area
  8. ? how do you know what it looks like? Peter
  9. Can anything be done about newbie cachers holding on to travel bugs! I have a travel bug stuck in the hands of the same cacher for over 3 months. I have tried emailing the cacher concerned, asking if they would place the tb in a cache or even give me thier tel no so a could arrange to pick it up, but no response. Admitedly the few caches they have visited since collecting the TB have been to small to place it in, but they have not visited any caches since feb. Any Suggestions as i would like to get the TB moving, as my Cub pack were hoping to follow its movements around the world ( or at least the local area) Or is there a way of tacking the cacher. they appear to be a family team rather than someone malicious. hope someone has some ideas Peter
  10. Hi All being new to all this forum stuff! so here goes i was planning on doing the southern loop of the uk mega next weekend, having heard something through the grapevine. now having read this thread it seems to have been confirmed, that it may be coming to an end. If this is the case and it is purley a maintanace issue, other than something else. could we all not do something about it. what i propose to do is carry some blank logs with me and replace any that are getting full, i could even take some containers if i new what sort of size! If we all where to do some maintanance would this help? I must admit that without the previous logs, it is not easy to plan, but with them added to a watch list other locals could take them on a few at a time or each and share the load. having said that i live 30 miles from the series so it would prove impracticle for me. But it would be a real shame to loose what i hope is a good series. if any one knows of any problems with the southern ring let me know and i will try and put it right as i do them. Peter Hi All As promised i completed the southern ring of the mega! apart from no 51 it lokked a bit dodgy to me! All the caches lokked in pretty good shape, none of the logs were full and had at least 30% left blank. The only maintanance required was the sharpening of a few pencils, which i did. I hope this will help convince LOTC to keep this series up and running, but it is over to some of you to convince him at his park meet, unfortunately i will not be able to make it as i am double booked with a Scouting activity. I hope this has helped the situation. Peter
  11. Hi all there will be lots of cachers that will be camping that will be both or more events, and i am sure they will not all be going home on sunday. try be sociable and see if someone would be willing to store your equipement at the site for collection later in the day. however it would probably be more secure in your vehicle as already suggested. Peter
  12. Hi All Am i using a different colorado to you! when i am caching i have mine set in geo mode, when i get to the first part of a multi, i work out the new co-ords for the next stage and mark it by pressing and holding the middle of the wheel and then editing the way piont to ther co-ords i need. Then i search for that waypoint and follow the line if on foot or use the go to location optionto go by road, if this doesnt show me the turn by turn directions i press the shortcut button til i can change the profile to automotive , reselect the waypoint and go to location. however the automotive and the recreational settings for some reason do not tend to be as accurate, But that could be just me. once i find the second waypoint i refind the cache page for the next set of instructions and repeat until the series is done it is a shame that this is not done by the press of one button but it is possible and you soon get the hang of it. hop this helps
  13. As i mentioned they don't include the maps (GSAK includes a google map containing the one cache you've selected) Although EasyGPS will show all the way points (without the map background) That way you can choose them from the route pattern you may be able to see(depending which ones you've chose. Also to remember is that once you're at one Geocache (so long as you've added them as a Geocache) it'll show you the next closest when you click "found". Also the geocache waypoint option on the device can either sort them by closest or by name (control this by pressing the menu button(left hand side, bottom button) when in the Geocache waypoint menu) cheers fella - its really the map back ground im after - when i plan my trips I want to put in waypoints of general interest and junctions - not just the cachesw - is there anywhere I can download maps to open in easygps (google maps would do fine) so that I can do this? I thoroughly understand your frustration. Its like having a lotus esprit without the turbo. To get a map with the waypoint you will have to invest in Garmin topo its the ony way. Now you can't upoad all as youve only got 28mb so you just select which part of the uk you want and download that section. Then you can download the waypoints to a cache. and you will have the map in background. Please note this isn't as good as OS maps but is a dadgum site better than nothing. You can pick your area of Uk up for abpout 60 pounds. On garmin web site. Sorry about this but people often fall into the trap of thinking a GPS cooks the whole breakfast. It doesn't and garmin should really improve there mapping service. Good hunting Sab Hi All Just to let you know if you wish to add maps to the Veture HC you will need to buy the Garmin Topo Maps on DVD at around £130! you can NOT use the SD card versions unless you have the HCX models! The garmin maps on SD card Cannot be read by a computer or copied! I have tried!! you could also follow TalkyToaster on the forums as he is currently working on the opensource maps which are free, although i am currently struggling to get them on my HC For information : H = High sensitivity C = Colour X = Expandable memory. ie. Card slot Hope this helps you out a little hope this

  15. Hi i thought i would stick my two peneth worth in. both the Gramin colorado and oregon are very good units, however the topo gb maps are not as good as the maps on the Active sat map, but the satmap is not currently recognised by GC. com. Both Garmin units are paperless which is great and can via the use of Pocket Queries hold thousands of caches. If finances are not a problem then i would look at buying the oregon 400t european model as this has the standard topo maps for the whole of the UK/ Europe as standard but you can now purchase the new garmin explorer maps and these are O/S quality but pricey. around £129 per Region and there are a few regions. you can pick up an Oregon 400t for around £300. But if there are budget restraints i would go the way of the Mio as you already have most of the maps you would need. hope this helps Peter
  16. Try this Hi Matrix The unit i have is the Venture HC not the HCX and us such has no mass storage as in the x for a card. When i try and view through windows explorer the unit is not shown as an extra drive, as it does on my colorado. I know it has memory built in but i canno find the drive for it. Any other Ideas Peter
  17. Hi All Its Me again, i have downloaded the maps that martin produced for the south of england Thanks Martin. However i dont seem to be able to get them on my Garmin Venture HC, does any one know how? When i connect to my pc the gps does not show up as an additional drive, and the only way i can download any info seems to be via the Garmin Mapsource soft ware that came with it. But this software will not open the map or allow it to be imported. Does anyone know if there is an alternative that will communicate with the gps? Also Martin I found one of your hide over the weekend, it seemed to be a long way from Horsham for your first one! Whats up not enough hidey holes up there for you! Thanks for all the help so far Peter
  18. Lets Try This Again!! Thanks Martin for getting back. After a long morning i managed to get the maps to work on my colorado. the detail on the map at this stage is not brilliant but far superior to the base maps that are issued on the garmin range. for our particular use the maps with contours are best, and we would need maybe 3 counties for most of the time . we are located in Chichester West Sussex about 7 mile from the Hampshire Border and 25mile from the Surrey border, we rarely venture too far from here. Even Horsham is miles away! On the odd camp we may venture to wales or somerset. we would use the gps,s alongside OS maps for the most part, we are only trying to keep up todate with the technologies. With the current prices of the Gramin maps, you may well find that there is a market for smaller snippits of maps as i am sure that there are quite a few people ith the smaller memory units that this would apeal too. we have 4 units in the group and for the OS quality maps i think we would be looking around £500 which the group cant afford to pay. So anything above the basemap is an improvement. I have looked at the GPSmapedit link that Guanajauto suggested, but i am not sure, i am not that brilliant with software unless it is made for dummies like me! but i would try if push comes to shove. So any other suggestions? thanks so far Peter
  19. Hi All This is mainly for Martin but any one could probably help. I have some garmin venture hc s that i would like to put some mapping on for use with a scout group. the garmin maps are too expensive and your opensource maps sound like they may fit the bill. the venture hc has 24mb of internal memory so a would not be able to put the whole of the UK on. now heres the question can i load only portions of the map on to the unit ie just where we use them, Hampshire, west sussex and surrey.? I have yet to try these maps out, i have the garmin topo maps on my colorado and so far these have been good enough, but i will sort out a sd card and try these maps out on my unit to see how they look. hope you can help Peter Burtsbodgers
  20. Hi does it have to be on a wednesday? i live in chi but have comitments on mon, tues, wed But thurs + Fri i am available to help out. If this is any good give me a shout. peter.burt@lineone.net there are quite a few cachers in the locality, i am still a relative newbie myself but i am getting there and have set out quite a few caches as well as finding a few.
  21. There does appear to be problems somewhere with email notifications. I have been recieving some but not all emails from GC.com, my pocket quiries come through and some new caches but not all my notifications on finds of my caches. This is not a spam problem in my case. hopefully the bods at GC can look into it.
  22. Hi I am failrly new to this as well on my colorado which works the same as the oregon. if you use windows explorer to find the drive route of the gps, then open the garmin file you will see a file named "visits"or similar this file holds the found files you wish to delete, open it and it shows the field notes made for your finds, just highlight then and hit the delete key and they are gone. i also use this method to delete the gpx files from the the unit to clean it up every month or so. you can access the field note on geocaching.com to up load your finds and any field note you have made which i find usefull, follow the tutorial on the site its useful Hope this helps. Peter
