  1. I have met ElDitton, who I feel was lying in wait for the FTF on one of his caches, and, as PP has mentioned above we have bumped into one another both going for a local FTF.
  2. Good point re US servers and US "fair use". Although "fair use" if often misunderstood by people who rely on it, a short snippet as part of a non-commercial puzzle (no members only caches then!) would probably be fair use.
  3. A friend back in the 80's used to write and perform his own songs which he used to sell on cassette at no real profit at his gigs and to his friends for only a couple of quid each. One of his songs included two lines from a 60's pop song deliberatly sung in the original style and ot the original tune. He ended up having to pay for a license and got issued with a number of stamps which he had to place on each copy so he could not sell more cassttes than he was licensed to.
  4. Things are well on the way for currykev and Belpasca to adopt these. They should all be in place in the next few days. I would like to thank them for helping me out, , and Lactodorum for facilitating this.
  5. Why do people use the MM icons? They are just regular caches that people have chosen to name a particular way. I know rthis becasue I did some before people decided to rename them! Like Pharisee, I am more interested in the cache than what someone decided to call it.
  6. It is now more than a week since I posted this and I have had no expressions of interest. Sorry, if I do not get anyone to volunteer before Sunday I will be forced, reluctantly, to archive the caches that have gone missing as I am not in a possition to devote the time necesary to them.
  7. Surely the point of a query I have not changed in 30 days is that it does exactly what I want it to do, so why would I want to edit it? What am I meant to usefully edit it to if it already does as I want it to?
  8. Beleive a similar query was raised about nine months ago.
  9. Low price, but is the SIRF a SIRF III? Processor is slow, no wirelees or even Bluetooth, no USB 2.0.
  10. Very nice icons! However, some of them, for example, the virtuals, do not appear to have transparent backgrounds - virtuals for example.
  11. I try and keep MM to 500 or 600 caches or it gets very slow to open, but I do have a steam driven PPC.
  12. The 7.5 million does not include the hundreds of thousands of tourists and out of London commuters who enter the area every day.
  13. You don't need Cachemate to do this. The scripts were originally written to work with HTML files and do a briliant job. The advantages of Cachemate are as I said above. Personally, having used Cachemate since I started caching on the Palm, I now find it too much trouble for what I need, which is a couple of hundred unfound local caches. Instead I use MM and HTML. Other users will find the extensive abilities of Cachemate much more worthwhile, it just depends on how much you need ot walk arround with loads of data in your pocket. When I have a faster PPC I may well return to Cachemate, but at the moment I don't need it.
  14. It is amazing how much Thames Water are prepared to spend acquiring all that land, dealing with the inevitable enquiry, installing the dams, sluices and pipes needed, but still can't stop leaks in their current network! It is a bit like having a blood transfusion when using Elastoplast would eliminate the problem!
  15. That's the frustrating for me. I used to be able to easily take an hour to walk to the far side of Green Park and back to do maintenance, but this has become impossible and will become more so.
  16. It allows for ecording of logs, some automating of logging on GC.com and enhanced data management. On the other hand, I find it much easier and quicker to link HTML files for use on the PDA with MM.
  17. That is why the seasonal availability and other hazards should be covered in the description as it is in Scandinavia. Descriptions tend to be detailed and very clear on hazards, special equipment or difficulties caused by weather or other factors. For example, the description will say, not avaialable when there is heavy snow cover, or only available if you have the use of a boat or the lake is sufficiently frozen to walk on.
  18. Soon after I started caching I adopted eight of Perthos's caches in St James Park and Green Park. I have always found it hard to find enough time to keep them maintained due to work pressures, and since I changed job last October things have got progressivly worse. Things are only going to get even more demanding for at least the next eight months and it wil lget more and more dificult to get over to Green Park and St James. I would therefore like to put these caches, which are very popular with tourists, for adoption rather than archive them. Four are already archived, but I am sure they would be unarchived if replaced. The caches can be viewed here.
  19. The idea of meeting in Central London at the weekend and being able to hear oneself think! The reason why The Mitre always worked is that it wasn't like a lOndon pub at the weekend! BTW, The Mitre got a mention in the Standard this evening for still being one of London's few traditional pubs.
  20. In Scandinavia caches are not archived or even disabled because they either, can't be found because they are buried under ten feet of snow from November to March, or because they can only be reached by walking a mile across a frozen lake during the same months. This has gone on long before the icons. People just put the relevant info in the description and everyone just accepted that this was part of caching. Do people use the discriptions any more these days?
  21. I notice that people have started posting the coordinates of puzzles as parking, then posting an AW with the coordinates changed by one digit as an appropriate place to park. Aaaaaaghh! Will this nonsense ever end!
  22. As we have always managed previously without the additional waypoints, I interpreted "addtional" as a synonym for "supplementary" meaning "functioning in a subsidiary or supporting capacity".
  23. This has been my point al lalong. The problem only occures becasue people ignore the need ot provide al lthe relevant info, clues and coordinates, in the description. Additional Waypoints are not integral, they are additional!
  24. I knew there was a problem wit hthe original location, but couldn't remember what. The area is completly open, but allowed to grow high for ecology reasons. It is totally unsuitable for a lasting cache, which is probably why I was thinking of burying it - it would be the only way!
