  1. Well done for organising this. Jackie and I had a lot of fun - we didn't get as much of a car as some, but we did fish four wheels out of the stream!
  2. I don't have this problem at home with Firefox, but at work with IE it happens often, and at home when my mail program opens links in emails it does so in IE and often the "remember me" fails.
  3. You have not said what you want the PDA to do. If all you want is a replacement for printed out cache pages all the recommendations above are overkill. See the current thread.
  4. If what you want is something to display cache descriptions and allow you to search and sort cache info in the field, a £20 Palm IIIxe or Palm V series or m100 or m500 series off Ebay should do. You do not need colour to do that, and the battery powered devices (III and m100 series) will run for weeks on a pair of AAA batteries if mono. You only need 2Mb to run Cachemate (the software of choice and a bargain at $8)and hold a thousand caches or so, but the 8Mb devices are just as cheap so go for one if possible. If you want to progress to mapping then you are better off with a PPC which will be in colour and will have batteries that last no time at all!
  5. All I can say is that I have had plenty to write on some of the Puzzle Caches I have done, but I guess, that as I am dead it all ends here.
  6. But you can't write notes on it at the same time as it is being kept dry though! That is the killer for me.
  7. I just love this bit - "ATTENTION Ebay Staff!!!!! This auction in no way violates Ebay policies and not intended." I always find it so reassuring to see that in an auction description.
  8. This website has some brilliant stories of stupidity - this is one of my favourites. Death at 30,000 feet! There must be a website out there somewhere with accounts of terrible accidents people have had with pieces of paper!
  9. Defrag the card 1) Copy all the files from the card to a folder on your computer 2) Delete all the files on the card 3) Copy all the files back to the card Result - one faster card!
  10. Re the wet PDA problem - Aquapac is the answer. www.aquapac.co.uk
  11. If it were not "unpublished" the details would be available to anyone who searched for them. There may be reasons to remove a cache from public view, and that is done by "unpublishing" it.
  12. OK - can the PPC experts here help? My PPC has, without intervention from me, renamed my SD Card. Now none of my applications on the card work as the path names are all incorrect and the GSAK scripts don't work either. How do I get it back to what it was before? I can't find any way of changing it. I have tried resetting the device with the card in it, and with the card not in the device, bit the card still retains its new name. [Edit - Solved the problem - MM on the desktop decided to create a folder called SD Card instead of telling me it could not find MM on the PPC. That meant the OS created a new name. Because of the mess MM created I have had to reinstall a load of stuff and have lost all my TomTom settings.]
  13. Born in 1960 I was taught both at school. My GPS is set in Imperial, but I use C for temperature. I am pretty compfortable with metric - my motorbike is Italian and has a speedo and odometer in Km which I have no problems with. When driving abroad I configure TomTom to give distances in Km so it is more consitent with the road signs. I confess I do tend to convert metric measures to imperial in my head.
  14. Like Hazel I have both and agree with her in what she says. I find myself using both devices now as they are both good at different things.
  15. USB is faster and easier to configure, but many older PDAs use the COM port serial connection which is just as effective - just takes a little longer.
  16. Personaly I find a Palm better or all of those as they are cheaper, faster and have loads more battery life. Where PPCs win in my view is in mapping due to much better software. If what you want is cache details Cachemate is the answer and the Palm version is much superior to the PPC - although that will improve as the PPC version is developed. I would recommend a cheap Palm for a beginning cacher and then they can transfer their Cachemate license to a PPC for free later if they want to upgrade. I wouldn't recommend spending £200 on a PPC and then find it wasn't for them. Edited to clarify that when I said "faster" I wasn't refering to the hardware - but to the ease of use.
  17. What is wrong with P1 for the first parking point, P2 for the second etc. Few caches will have more than ten parking coordinates!
  18. Well done - I can imagagine all the hard work!
  19. I use it al lthe time, but if you don't have coordinates on a webpage to select - just launch the script which opens the URL above, and type in the coords - as I said, it is very forgiving!
  20. It is in the pinned thread on resources for Uk cachers and the script is written to work with the URL I gave.
  21. In the UK there is no public land. Someone owns it, even if it is described as "common" land.
  22. http://benchmarks.org.uk/map.php?c= Then type in what you want - it seems very forgiving.
