  2. Sounds to me like things are working well. I don't usually get any better then +/-3m with my eTrex. The CSx does have a Quad Helix antenna so it makes since that you see better results when holding it upward.
  3. Just tested it....auto-routing works in MapSource (haven't tried on the GPSr). I never thought to even try before being as the Topo USA maps are not. I wonder why they are ripping off the Americans?
  4. Did you backup the GPSr before doing that? If so, reload firmware and copy the map back. If not you might be able to find the base map on-line. Try The Goggle or search this forum as this topic has been covered before I think. When did you purchase the GPSr? If it’s still under warranty you might be able to get Magellan to swap it for a newer model.
  5. Also.... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=191231
  6. You’re a bit sparse on the details. What exactly did you do (more detail)? Did you format the SD card or the actual GPS device? Looks to me like you toasted your base map.
  7. Yes..... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=191231 and http://www.magicmaps.ca/
  8. 500 track points is the upload limit. With routes I think it is 150.
  9. Topo Maps will not alow you to do what you want to do. You need the Garmin City Nav Maps on your GPSr to search for addresses.
  10. Yes…the eTrex H will serve this purpose perfectly.
  11. Have you called them to see what is going on? They should be able to provide you with some kind of tracking information. 1-877-686-6461
  12. Measure the diameter of your handle bars and then you will know which mount to purchase.
  13. What is the diameter of your handle bars? You will need to know this. I'm not sure what the micoSD card slot has to do with anything. It's behind the units back cover. Not in the way at all. Buy this: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=1057 or this: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=1056
  14. Wait for DVD. Install that. All will be good. MapSource is all you need. T&W is basically MapSource without maps.
  15. NW trails http://www.switchbacks.com/maps/NW_Trails.html
  16. From what I have read your SOL try this....http://www.fizzymagic.net/Geocaching/FizzyCalc/index.html
  17. What have you tried already? If training center is already installed you could download MapSource and try that.
  18. Canadian sites are a good option (if they ship to AUS). That said Canadian prices, historically, have been higher than those in the USA. However being as the Canadian dollar has been on par with the US dollar for the last year or so perhaps that has changed with some items. Amazon will ship Garmin GPSr to Australia. Unless you’re enlisted in the US military service I don’t think that APO/FPO issues will be preventing you from ordering. Try the link below to the international store: http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=230659011
  19. http://www.appalachiantrail.org/site/c.jkL...nd_GPS_Data.htm Appalachian GIS data in a few formats....some good for making your own trial maps. It not a topo sub but the trail detail is likely much better than what Garmin has. How to info is also on the page or just post your questions here.
  20. Did you try the Garmin website? https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=654 and perhaps this if you don't have a serial port: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=810
  21. Legend HCx Venture HC Both do all you want (with the addition of mapping ability) and can be found for under $200. The other cheaper models (save the very basic eTrex H) don't have the better GPS chip. If your upgrading you might as well get the newer technology.
  22. Right you are..…I suppose the wife and I do a bit more traveling lately trying to hit up as many USA highlights as we can before we move back home. It's crazy though how many people I have met in St. Louis that have never left the city. This country is big and full of interesting places, get out and explore them! I suppose in the end it really doesn't take that long to upload new maps (especially if you use a card reader). Hell if I have the time to type this I must have the time to fiddle around with my maps.
  23. I was wondering the same thing about Navguys.com....found very few reviews on them. I caled Garmin and they confirmed that they are an authorised dealer. A few weeks ago when I got my HCx they had it on for $183.00. I picked free shipping and had the unit here in about 5 days. Happy customer here. The map store I have used in the past. It's run by a guy and his wife from Cali. They have good service. The SD card is direct from Kingston so no issues there.
  24. If you’re looking for more accuracy you could try the Ibycus maps as a base (water data is much better and depending on your county so is the road data) and over lay your own elevation data. I have been doing this for MO and it’s working great. Make your own elevation data….. http://home.cinci.rr.com/creek/garmin.htm
