  1. Well done Brian - 500! And tothink that you were considering giving up not so longago. Peter and Jacqueline Wigglesworth
  2. A potential problem with long distance multi's is that the cache setter must make sure that if one leg of the multi goes missing it does not prevent the seeker getting to the final cache. There is nothing more frustrating to find a few micros and then determine the next stage is missing and so cannot complete the series! Personally I believe that if you find a micro you should be rewarded with a 'find'. Peter
  3. There is a GSAK forum where you can post the question. Clyde prefers people to use the form so that the knowledge is shared. http://www.gsak.net/board/index.php?act=idx Peter
  4. Related to memory map I had a problem downloading cache information / description to MM via GSAK. The referenced response in the GSAK forum showed me the way ! I now click on the cache icon on my pda and view the cache description complete with latest logs. I now only use MM and do not bother with the dedicated programs for viewing cache info. Peter http://www.gsak.net/board/index.php?showto...indpost&p=10792
  5. I download (I am a premium member) fro geocachng.com I use GSAK t select my caches and waypoints of interest and export via GSAK to TomTom as POIs. Peter
  6. Many thanks for the ideas - will try the joint running of tt and mm soon. We now use GSAK to abstract the caches of interest and download from there to tt. We also use it to download cache pointers and descriptions so that we can double click on the MM icon and get description. This way we do not use any other software. Thanks to Clyde for the pointer to the gsak forum where we received instructions. http://www.gsak.net/board/ We really appreciate this exchange of info and ideas. Peter
  7. We recently did a multi but did not appreciate it was a multi on the day. We found the 35 mm container which had no information in as to a second stage. We assumed that it had been muggled and so added a piece of paper as a log sheet - logged it and then claimed a a find. It was only when someone else a week later stated that they could not find the second stage we realised it was a multi. In this case I have left the log as found. Oh Lord forgive me for I know not what I do!!! Peter
  8. I really like the idea of something looking slightly out of place when searching for the cache. Most of the time this is a huge pile of sticks but more subtle efforts are welcome. Peter
  9. I had major problems climbing to the top of a footpath sign (I kept sliding down) so a tree will be an even bigger challenge. I know a number of cachers who would be unable to climb a tree - is it possible to have an alternaive locaton for less nimble cachers? Peter
  10. Wooden geocoins. Recently came across these in Bracknell area. The web site mentioned seems to be for sales rather than tracking - so I just just dropped the coin into te next cache. Or perhaps I have mised something. However if this is a new tracker there should be clear instructions for novices to this typee of bug! Peter
  11. It is an honour to be able to say we 'know' a 900 strong team! Jacqueline and Peter
  12. I am in the over 50 class and use: miles in the car metric when walking or cycling Reason: 1. It is far more rewarding to walk 8km than a mere 5 miles. 2. I cannot jude a distance in feet!
  13. Lacto - I guess you kinda have a point! Perhaps we can start a UK standard which the mods can influence - I don't mind what the code is as long as we are all consistent! Perhaps we can get European Funding for a research project. Glad to see that I have support for the principle! Peter
  14. I welcome the additional waypoints on the cache pages making it easy to down load car parks etc. When downloading lots of caches and waypoints however it is sometimes difficult to determine if there is a car park because the naming convention seems to differ by cache owner. It is not easy to search for car parks on the GPS because you do not know the starting characters. The last four characters are typically the end of the GC label (good idea) but the first two letters vary. Would it be better for everyone to use CP (for carpark) followed by the last four characters of the GC? Peter
  15. Update on our a201. After getting tomtom to 'freeze' I reset the complete macine and reloaded the original tomtom card when I got home and all is fine. Also have MM version 4.4.3 loaded and all seems well. Loaded GPS sonar but the loading the caches crashed the system - I guess the program uses too much of the RAM memory rather than the storage card. At the moment I use the MM cache detail after exporting MM with descriptions from geocacheUK. The layout isn't that clear but the data is present. Sometimes there is a strong urge to prnt out a cache description on paper!! Peter
  16. Thanks for the method to insert streetmap into links. Works great. Peter
  17. For us it is the journey to the cache and not the contents. Having said that we have exchanged CDs a few times which is a good exchange. Peter
  18. Moote Peraps I misunderstood Deego. He wrote "If you use GSAK you can right click the cache and select correct coords, then when you show using streetmap it will be in the correct place on the map automagicly." Peter
  19. Occasionally we are confronted by a farmer or other 'local official' and it would be great to know just how open you can be. Clearly if permisson has been given then there is no issue explaining why you are there! A recent example for us was where we parked the car and the farmer explained a large truck was coming so requested we park elesewhere. He even suggested that we park on the farm land further up the lane where we would be well out of the way of the special wide load. Peter
  20. I have found a link to multimap which gives a whole range of maps including OS maps. List the caches via GSAK Right click select custom URL then multimap option Works fine for me and savesopening caches pages and streetmap - all performed by single click on GSAK. Peter
  21. I got the impresson from Deego that you can show a streetmap directly from GSAK. I did a right click on the cache but no mention of streetmap link. Can anyone help me please. Peter
  22. I like the idea of announcing a cache that will be 'opened' in a week. This way many people are likely to visit the cache on the 'first' official day. Peter
  23. Well done Des and Bren. Of those there were quite a few FTF too! Soon you will be in the all time greats league! Jacqueline and Peter
  24. I bought my a201 from superetrader complete with bundled tomtom. It worked well for a couple of weeks but then crashed and permanantly froze. I reset the complete system and reloaded everything from scratch. Tomtom still does not work. Trader suggetsed I contact tomtom drect. Tomtom informed me that they do not support the a201 and so cannot offer any help. I will be sending the pda back for superetrader to reload the ystem. My worry is what happens if it crashes again some time later. I have also been running memory map and there are some issues with contention of the gps. Memory map also sems to have issues with large overlays of cache data - eg over 1500 caches. Peter
  25. There are several hints and tips on Mio website FAQ. http://www.mio-tech.be/support/faqs/index....show&cat=349163 There is also a link to the tomtom upgrade for running on Mio - but when loaded you have to enter the registration code. I bought tomtom bundled in from superetrader but they have not registered the tomtom sale. So tomtom now does not work - awaiting registration code. Good tip to use com 4 for GPS. Will try this - I used tomtom and memory map. You have to remember to 'exit' memory map otherwise tomtom will not 'see' the gps. Peter
