  1. Thank you Sparrowhawk for your initial post and the link that started this all. Also thanks to Quest Master for the links to Cache #1 , Cache #2 and Cache #3 , on the abandoned PA turnpike. I really love old relics like this and these sites really got me all misty eyed because I'd been in Breezewood several times about as many years ago and never noticed the old section of hwy. (there must have been a distrubance in the force) Now it's almost 10 hrs away. I really enjoyed reading the logs of each cache and the pictures on the other websites are great but it's not quite like being there is it?
  2. I enjoy doing that because I'm in the early stages of Alzheimers. Just kidding. My question is whether or not it's ok to revisit a cache after one has discovered it? I while trying to help a TB on it's way I wasn't sure if it was proper etiquette to drop it off in a cache I'd already been to. (my first choice got muggled) If I'm correct, revisits are ok, just as long as I post a note instead of a "found it"? 2) After my suggestion for a great hide, someone else placed a cache with a TB in it. Now I'd feel quilty claiming FTF but would like to help the TB to get moving. I'm torn as too what I should do. I was hoping this new pastime would help reduce stress and the desire to go postal. Season's Greetings
  3. How about the metric equivalent, GEO 181, or I think the square root is 8 something.
  4. If it's a spur of the moment deal and I want to make sure I have everything conceivable under the sun, I'll just grab my wife's purse!!
  5. I'm certain most would require assistance just to go into the forest after dark. I do like the reflector idea though and a local mountain bike club play with reflector on the trails during night rides. Deer hunter also use them as guides into their stands. There are some interesting illustions one can create by placing different sized reflectors at different distances but I'm toying with using the distant reflectors to line up onto where the cache is hidden. A bicycle shop is a good source for cheap durable reflectors.
  6. Or "Not in Canada, eh?" (drug testing for employment is not permitted in Canada because we are 'glorious and free') ***** Sorry, for at least 3 yrs now Canadian truck drivers working for companies that run into the U.S. are subject to the random "whiz quiz".
  7. I'm thinking that's a tad too complicated when a simple "gun sight" affair with 3 nails or stakes would do the same thing and be bombproof to boot. I was thinking of using a couple of the large pillar shaped rocks available on site and/or the fork in a tree to create a simple stonehenge affair. (some pillar stones are already used to mark some trails) Got any ideas for defeating winter?
  8. The lastest in the U.S. is very accurate 3D topo maps that you can download and the old standbys, 2D, are still FREE! along with aerial photos but in Canada we have to pay for useless 1:250,000 topo maps decades old and in some cases with towns misnamed. Huge ripoff. End of rant. tks It's just not right. * (*in lieu of the "finger" smiley)
  9. I do so dislike Toporama, what a rip off. Do a google search of Gatineau Park or Camp Fortune area because I've seen some half decent maps (pdf) on one of those websites.
