  1. Don't let them grind you down, not too many guesses needed I dare say. Please do go to the police This game is supposed to be fun!
  2. Shame! What a disappointing outcome. Anybody had the bully boys round to force them to place a new cache? Easy, if you don’t want to place a cache either don’t FTF the cache (turn up more than 10 minutes after it’s been published) or pop a note on and say so. It was a fun idea and though I can only speak from personal experience; there was nowt wrong with the caches I found. Unlike some other series of caches that come to mind like the motorway mayhems and off your trolley. Did the reviewers have any say in this? What brought the attention of Groundspeak to this (I could take a guess at a few people throwing toys out of the cot). I guess an announcement of the application of the guideline would have saved some angst. No big deal at the end of the day, plenty of caches around to do (Mongers wanders off to find a leaky film can by the rat trap in the supermarket car park)
  3. But it does give the NW contingent the right to attempt to stop us? Let us be clear. The SE does have the automatic right to hold A 2012 UK Mega Event, so long as Groundspeak feel it is likely to get 500+ visitors, or award the icon post-event. Apparently the Olymics are expected to draw 1.5m people to the SE. If 0.04% of them are cachers, the event should hit that number without any locals coming. Please note the logo, left. You're insisting that, regardless of who publically stated their intentions for the/a UK Mega in 2012 first, that the NW is the place for one. I'm politely and publicly agreeing. Yes, it's the place. For one. I genuinely resent the spin which -understandably, I suppose- is being put on this. I'm told I 'talked about the possibility of an event' when I actually said 'Yes, we're doing one', I'm told it'd 'fizzled out' when I've already been contacted by half a dozen teams willing to be on the committee and researched locations for both the Mega (sorry, A mega) and satellite events. And I'm told 'how dare you think about holding an event which clashes with ours' when, as long ago as August 2009 I even gave a preliminary date. As Gordon Brown so succinctly put it, get real. I'm not afraid of a little competition. Please avoid July 22nd Seems a lot of I and not much we tbh. The NW approach seems more "we"
  4. Oh no! Does this mean I have to watch tv now. This is far more entertaining. Nah the next hissy will be along shortly
  5. That's the permission question resolved. Hopefully this means we can all move on.
  6. So far as I am aware there has been no request from the GAGB to stream this data, I could be wrong if so please could you point me to when, where and by whom? Then lets chill a bit and sort it out.
  7. they are having a light problem today but expect to be active again later today.
  8. It has been six years and four months since I found my first cache, a film can drive by. Still love the pastime, though on occasions I do think why have you brought me here. I have met a lot of people playing this game and have to say while I was having a rough year or three, a good few of them were around to check how things were going, some of them even dropped what they were doing and came and helped me to move after I lost pretty much everything I owned in a fire. The pastime was never going to remain secret, something this fun never was. I certainly don't get many blank looks these days when the pastime is mentioned. Micro caches have their place, they enable the quick find to feed the addiction. I guess these days I am quite lucky to live in a area where people do still seem to put out the biggest cache they can find and in general do try to take you some place nice to visit. Film cans seem an exception rather than a rule even amongst micros. Even relative noobs are putting out caches that are a real challenge (Decoy Dog gave me the co ords of a container he was testing the other day and it really did challenge me to find it, not a live cache but I must say I am looking forward to the logs when it does go wild). Geocaching has taken me to some cracking places I would have very likely never visited otherwise: last weekends CITO in Holden Park organised by Overanout is a good example. All in all, I say happy tenth birthday enjoy the game, just remember it is a game .
  9. Nice one Dave 30,000 caches published is some going.
  10. The Haywood Hornet has been to 109 events, plus 8 CITO and three mega events. A bit of catching up to do Paul.
  11. Mine is 107 events, plus six CITO events and two Mega events. Slowed down a bit these days. Wouldn't say I am very sociable though
  12. Who told you that? What law allows them to do so? possibly this one The Royal Parks and Other Open Spaces Regulations 1997
  13. As with all requests for changes to the guidelines, I am sure the GAGB will consider the request!
  14. The trouble is, that however well meaning you are (or whether you're a regular cacher or a moderator), offering to correct someone's spelling is gonna sound patronising. I think that as long the owner has made every effort to write up a cache page as well as they possibly can, then that is probably sufficient. This might mean using a spell checker or asking a friend to give your cache page a read through first. But people need to take ownership of this themselves and take a bit of pride over their cache pages! What bugs me is when bad spelling and grammar is obviously the result of laziness - I just don't see an excuse for that. I may be generalising, but to me a lack of care on a cache page often means a lack of care over the hide too. If you have dyslexia then obviously this is different, but most people with common sense can distinguish between the two situations. I really am not sure it would come across as patronising. Probably less embarrassing than having your spelling and grammar as a topic on a forum. People have lots of reasons for having poor word skills and to be perfectly honest I think this thread shows a lack of disrespect for them. It's not just things like dyslexia (depending on the severity spelling and grammar tools may not be helpful) , there are many other reasons. One of these is laziness. Then we have things like brain injury or depression which may severely affect the ability to concentrate when using a computer monitor. Other people may have had a poor education for whatever reason (I missed a year of primary school myself), they may have just enough computer skills to navigate their way around to list a cache but not enough to write it in a Word processor and then transfer it to the cache page. I know of at least one cacher who was a regular contributor to this forum who never got the hang of cut and paste. Yes, it would be nice if all cache pages were beautifully written creations, this however is the real world where peoples skill levels have many different levels By nature we will make judgements when we see such pages, avoid those caches if you wish, Every now and again though you may find that your missing out on a cache that's been placed by someone who really does know a lovely place to visit and has placed an ammo can where others with fantastic word skill may have placed a micro.
  15. My point was simple. All else being equal, it discourages visitors if your cache description is difficult to read; and you have to expect them to assume that the cache is as poor as the description. yeah OK, I'll let you have that point! In the absence of anything else with which to guide me as to whether I want to do cache A or B, I will resort to the description! Even so, it would be content first, and then writing ability! Write, I really must get on with some work! So is your break period over?
  16. How about a completely different approach? If poor spelling grammer or sentance construction bothers you to the extent you find the need to start a forum thread. Why not contact the person and offer assistance, you never know you may learn something at the same time. Surely this would be a more positive approach.
  17. First ever find, a film can tossed under a style 6ft from the car door. BTW that was 2003................
  18. The Leg end series around Chorley mundane micro's. Obviously written by one who has not done them
