  1. I am very keen and I would happily take a place in one of the vehicles if at all possible. How much snow is there at the moment. I was out Ceres way last weekend and there is not a lot on the mountains there. This is on my to do list - not so much the geocache (which is a bonus) but to get to the top of Matroosberg and see some snow. I will watch this thread to see if I make the cut! Trev
  2. Sounds tempting. In three days you should be able to find them all - but its going to be c-c-c-cold! I have been a lazy boy and am way behind in my work - so if a miracle happens and I put in some time I might make myself eligible for this epic trip if there is still a place available. You must look up Oom Louwtjie! You will have loads of fun - enjoy Trev
  3. Heres what you do Pooks. Pack up the oregon in its box and ship to me. Looking forward to a nice new GPS Thanks Pooks Trev
  4. Fantastic - Google tranlsate came up with this translation - I appreciate the effort to write up a historical cache and the time it takes - and then to tranlsate on top of that is a huge mission but it woudl be well appreciated I am sure. I think you will be able to clean this up with few problems In past years it was home to the deer and predator. Over the vast plain elephants, rhinos, wildebeest, zebra and springbok geswerm. The nomadic Bushmen were the first residents are objects and paintings and failed for years with their bows and arrows to hunt game maker. Gradually, however, would have penetrated the area and the rest is disturbed. At the beginning of the 17th century the Tswana from the north in successive waves move southward and the whole area of Bechuanaland occupied. For them the Batlapin the area occupied, ranging from the present Vryburg, southwards along the Hartsriviertot at the confluence of the Vaal River and then west past the current Kuruman. Taung on the Heart River, was the center of this settlement. Along the upper reaches of the Molopo River in the vicinity of the present bought the Barolong settled. By the late 18th century, immigrants from the south of this area began to infiltrate. It was the Koranna a Hottentotstam, who supports the arrival of Jan van Riebeeck in the vicinity of the Cape found. They gradually northwards pulled them later at Mamusa, current Schweizer-Reneke established. The Koranna was a restless people, and their plundering of Batlapin led to an endless struggle given. During the twenties and thirties of the 19th century, the Matebele-impi's under Mzilikazi, the area to the west in the direction of Bechuanaland cleared. Many of the Tswana tribes in the Kalahari desert seeking safety. After these victories, Mzilikazi near Zeerust in the Marico District of settle where his pen, called Mosega, today a well-known landmark is. Early in the early 19th century, the vanguard of the white also went through this area. Missionaries, travelers and traders have their way laboriously through the arid regions spared by the Cape Colony of Bechuanaland separated. In 1806 trips known Dr. Henry Lichtenstein past Grikwastad to Lithako, just north of the current Kuruman. He was followed by William Burchell and John Campbell, who more or less the same route followed. In 1890, the first mission under the Batlapin by Dr Robert Moffat founded. The first mission was near Maropin, during June 1826 to the present Kuruman relocated. In 1836 the Great Trek take a start. Up on the Vaal River, the Tractors of Potgieter attacked by the Matabele. As a result, two steering Potgieter strafekspidisies against the Matabele and are north of the Limpopo River came. The Western Transvaal, as far as Bechuanaland, was virtually deserted and the Voortrekkers gradually the area possessed. Also, the Tswana tribes from the Kalahari and they returned peacefully under the auspices of the Voortrekkers established. The burgers were Barolong, Batlapin and Koranna regarded as residing on the territory that they conquered the Matabele, and some of the stammer it for granted the power of the farmers accepted. After the independence of the South African Republic in 1852 would be the Western boundary of the Transvaal, but for years the scene of fighting between African tribes themselves, and where the white later would become involved. The fund is just about on the sidewalk next to the owner of the fund house. The house and the owners are not terrible historical interest relating to Vryburg not. It is not necessary for the site to enter. This is a microfilm container and please bring your own pen or pencil. The fund has space for small items or coins. There is something special in the first erdvraat it discovered. If you plan to fund come looking, you can call the owner for a nice cup of coffee!
  5. Team-Ollie has not found anything outside of Holland and Spain in the 22 they have found. Must be a mistake. As a cache owner you shoudl be able to send the missing TB to a better place. Perhaps try emailing Team-Ollie again and gently persuading them to grab back the TB. Just visited your cache and it does not show as found - only the published log is showing. And finally please put an English translation if you can - I for one won't read that info and there are many others who can;t Trev
  6. My best advice is - unless you got or can get this for a really good price don;t bother with it. And by a good price I mean free or near to free. The unit I am sure will be fine but I think you can do better - even the yellow etrex H (new for under R1000 and second hand for 500 or less) woudl be a better bet for geocaching. the GPSIII Plus can do maps - but with 1.44 MB memory you are going to be constantly chopping ans changing - and you better check it comes with a working data cable or else count on getting ripped R400 from Garmin for that cable (R200 for a non garmin product) This unit is old You will soon grow out of this unit and wish you had bought something better. But having said all that if it really is cheap and I mean R300 (and I woudl baulk at paying that myself) or less it might be worth looking at and it will be just fine for hiding and finding caches. Trev
  7. PM me and I will tell you all about it Trev
  8. Yes well that is unfortunate - a pretty closed group as some of the best stuff for garmins isnot allowed to be mentioned. Moving on you know that "unlocking" garmin maps is trivial? Jetmouse is your friend. Trev
  9. Well, well, well I had never heard of Rhoden Hall until now. I was looking for Nine Mile. Googling privides lots of references to the fact that bob was born there but nothing on the place it self - confusing. I guess you are it. Trev
  10. I am on a bit of a Bob Marley trip so here is an easy Marley question Where was Bob Marley born and what year was it? And for all the smart alecs I need a bit more information than Jamaica! Trev
  11. 1 Pilot and Astronaut - although I prefer the term Space Cadet. 2 First American in space - Yuri and the Soviets were first. 3. Bit of a guess and I'd say first space walk or first American spacewalk? Trev
  12. Well I would kick your butt, but I think I'll do that next week. Trev
  13. I received 4 the other day - it took ages - a month or so but they got to me finally - so probably a few more 0/10 due to the SA PO. But thank you PO workers for not stealing them. Trev
  14. Aaawww come on guys - now you've ruined the joke! Someone would have fallen for this. You should have just replied with a witty comment such as:- Seems like this cache should be grandfathered now! Enjoy your April Fiools everyone! trev
  15. Thanks - I tried this forum first as I don't read the GSAK forums usually. Your solution works quite well - instead of deleting I will mark archived and probably add some user define fields as well so I know I did it manually. Thanks Trev
  16. Was just playing arround with GSAK and now that POILoader allows easy transfer of multiple poi files to a nuvi I was trying to make a poi file that contained just caches of an easy nature that I had not done. after setting an approriate filter in GSAK a number of caches showed up that I knew to be archived. Clearly archived caches do not come through on Pocket Queries, so the question is how to weed them out of my GSAK database. I can filter in last found but there is not way to tell reliable if a cache just has not been found or if it is archived. How do I go about cleaning up? Thanks Trev
  17. Nice - when we did the Bodacious Bloemfontein and Back Cache Dash it was a huge amount of fun. I am sure you will break the record quite easily as Team Phantom who did 111 started at midnight and ended at the event a good 4 hours before midnight! Also they cache outside Bloem and had to travel as well. If you have not found any in Bloem you will easily get 111 in 24 hours - well it may not be easy but it is doable I heard about this madness at the event cache in CT yesterday. Since there were only 2 Capetonians on the last effort I am sure some will be keen - its just a schleppy 12 hours to get to Bloem and another schlep of 12 hours to get back - if not a little bit longer. However I could have my rubber arm twisted if anyone in Cape Town with a 7 seater **COUGH-CapeDoc-COUGH** is going to make the trip. Or even if there is seat in sedan to make up numbers. 4 in a car makes driving easily shared and there might be chance to catch 40 winks in the car. Other wise vodka and red bull will likely be the order of the day.......... What I do know and Team Phantom can corroborate - doing it ion a team is the way to go - driver, navigator, and general team member or two! And just ask Gerhard and iNokia just how tough it was being by themselves. If I don't get to make it have an awesome event and 24 hour challenge. Trev
  18. Nope, googled it. Yes I think this one might be a bit tough so just for completeness the dudes name was Gelett Burgess, SO here is some verse by the dude I was actually thinking of - someone a lot more obvious I believe. The one-L lama, He's a priest. The two-L llama, He's a beast. And I would bet A silk pajama There isn't any Three-L lllama. Trev
  19. Scared of viruses/malware or damaging the usb port? - if the latter use a cable if the former use Linux or a mac! Don't have linux installed and are still curious - then try anyone of a myriad of live cd's freely downladable. Be safe ! Trev
  20. I've never seen a purple cow. My eyes with tears are full. I've never seen a purple cow, And I'm a purple bull Indeed he did - but you never said who he was Interesting thing in reading up some more on it today I learned the writer was not who I had in mind - I think the first article I researched had an incorrect attribution. Trev
  21. "I've never seen a purple cow; and I hope to never see one. But I'll tell you surely now; I'd rather see than be one." Who write the above and many others similar to it! Trev
  22. Just make sure they will be updating the firmware - apparently 2.2 is avaialbale for the phone you are getting (which is almost a year old now) Apparently it is the fault of the networks who tweak and change android to suit their needs (not yours!) that result in delayed releases. For instance Android 2.3 is out but your year old phone is still stuck with 2.1 ( amd thats after 2.2 for it has been released!) Its not Android or Googles fault though. Enjoy your new Android Phone I don;t think you will be disappointed! One day I will get one too.......... Trev
  23. All of WHAT (or part of what) occurred on a single day of a test match? Think about the clues Got IT (I think) 4 innings in one day Must Be! Logic - start the day with 9 down in the first innings - 1 wicket closes innings 1, then 20 wickets closes innings 2 and 3 leaving innings 4 to start! Trev
  24. I have just been thinking about this. A USB dead drop as the cache container and the log sheet contained therein as a electronic file. Of course GS will never allow that - but you could use one or more deadrops as intermediary clue points to get to a traditional final cache container! So the only question remains - who will be the first? Just remember to a USB (male/female) lead to make the connection! Looking forward to it! Trev
