  1. Is that: Right hand, palm up and slightly cupped, heel of hand held to chest. Head bowed, chin on chest, looking directly at palm. Just wanna make sure I got it right... -Matt
  2. All right... Finally on the stats page. It is nice to see collected results - it provides a little incentive. Thanks holograph! -Matt
  3. I followed the 'to reach' directions for LF1499 on a highway map and it dropped me right on the north edge of the Sac and Fox reservation in SE Nebraska. The plotted coords put it in Holt County, MO, approx 18 miles too far East. I think we should be careful about trusting the published coords of a scaled mark over a look at a map and following the description. -Matt
  4. I searched the NGS datasheets by name and by a radial search around your coords, and did not find 47 B. I did find three others with similar names - 41 B, 42 B and 44 B, the last being the closest at 0.9 miles from your numbers. For some reason, NGS never saw fit to include this mark in the database. Why? I dunno. There are others here who may have a reasonable explanation, but my guesses would include that it was placed but never needed for the project they were working on, so never had precision elevation put on it. Did it appear stable? It may have been deemed unreliable and removed from the database. I could go on making up possibilities, but we'll probably never really know, as NGS doesn't generally explain these things. -Matt
  5. For out-of-staters, we might consider writing to the South Carolina Tourism Department. Let them know how much you probably won't be spending in their state. There's a web form at http://www.discoversouthcarolina.com/tools/contactus.asp and US Mail at: South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism 1205 Pendleton Street Columbia, South Carolina 29201 USA (803) 734-1700 -Matt
  6. You pee on your knees? Doesn't that make for a lot of laundry? . . . .sorry, couldn't help myself. it was too easy After ten years on survey crews, I no am longer bothered by relieving myself wherever it becomes necessary. With all appropriate modesty, of course. The standing rule so to speak when out on a country road looking for a benchmark was guys in front, girls in back. -mapjunkie
