  1. My 1st caching anniversary , and a BIG thank you for everyone for setting all these caches. I’ve been to some really interesting places far and wide, also lovely locations just a few miles from where I live that I never knew were there, and it’s got the grey matter going a few times to! My local knowledge of footpaths, roads and shortcuts is now second to none! It’s given my walking and cycling purpose, rather than scratching my head and thinking “where shall we go for a walk?” I now just have look at the PC and come up with a whole multitude of possibilities. I have never walked so much in so varied conditions and driven so far in one year……great isn’t it . I think the numbers will start slowing down now as the distance to caches gets further and further away and time, as always, is at a premium. I enjoy all the caches I find but a few stick in my memory most…..The Little Cemetery Safari for ingenuity, Missing Cacher..just brilliant, The Hunt for Red October series and Trigometry, triangles and treachery which is what started me on this geocaching journey a year ago. Many thanks Mart
  2. As others have said London is pretty good! Planning is MOST important, you have to work out the most efficient route round town and stick to it..... i did 38 in 9 hours.... but you want to do it when the weathers BAD, not as many muggles around then! Mart
  3. Well done Dan..... thats one hell of a mile stone Plus setting all those great caches as well how do you get the time!!??!! Mart
  4. When I go out caching I never look to see what TB's are in a cache i'm going to visit (on the cache pages). So when i get to a cache and find a TB i will nearly always pick it up. Only when i get home and log it do i find out its mission. Now sometimes bringing it home doesn't help it's mission i've either carried it in the wrong direction, removed it from a particular area were it wants to stay and i'm not going that way again.....etc . NOW some people have very thoughtfully attached the mission of their TB to the TB itself...what a good idea , that way you can decide if you are going to assist or hinder before you remove it. SO just as a suggestion wouldn't that be a good idea for all new up and coming TB's. Mart p.s. i suppose i could always read the cache page first..... BUT when i'm paperless caching there are no TB's logged in caches.
  5. Two sites i would and have used NEAR Oxford...... Lincoln Farm Park (mentioned before) which is at Standlake about 11km West of Central Oxford (approx) and Diamond Farm which is NEAR Bletchingdon (Kidlington) about 10km North of Central Oxford...... lots of caches placed quite close to Diamond Farm recently. Both are good sites and very popular....difficult to get into in the summer months BUT should be OK now. Mart
  6. Nice one ....just ahead of me. Here's to many more finds...AND many more hides. Mart
  7. I've had 3 GPS's now started with a Magellan 3000 back in 1997 bought for using whilst hill walking and canoeing. Replaced it 3 years later with a Magellan 315 for the same purpose.......then started using it for Geocaching last October...really happy with it i've no need to replace it (i said). Then found a Garmin Legend for sale in Staples for £124 including Map Source!!!!! so i had to have that..too much of a bargin to overlook..... primary use geocaching now. Does get used for other events still. Mart
  8. Did the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge this year........that's a circular walk...ok 25miles, but there are 6 caches on route 1 more with a short diversion. Plus this is a pretty well known walk. Mart
  9. hello..again. Yes i've tried the new link but still the same message. As soon as it connects PING up comes the message DOH! Mart
  10. Currently doing a night shift as well....... surfing beats working thats for sure. Well for the record i'm on my tea break....not! Mart
  11. dadgum and blast, still not working....i think i'll have to try every now and then just to see if it sorts itself out. Mart
  12. Check what software version your GPS is using, there were problems with the Etrex range with an earlier software version.......the unit would briefly say no external power detected, shutting down.... Dont know if your seeing this at all, it was a brief message and if you weren't watching you'd miss it! By downloading the latest firmware version for YOUR GPS from Garmin may fix this.......it did it for mine. Mart
  13. Tried the new link and............still invalid file! Does the network provider make any difference, do they stop access to some sites? Mart
  14. Yep poker game down loads ok. As soon as the phone connects to the guk2 site it says invalid file.........strange. Its a big vice as well! Mart
  15. I've deleted the old version and..........still no joy. It still says "invalid file"! I had no problems with the first version i use a Nokia 5100 and would have thought it had the same java operating system as most other Nokia's......any ideas before i put my phone in a vice! Mart
  16. IT WAS ME. Found the cache hidden in standard gecaching style, recoved it, as you do, filled in the log book, no problems so far, then when to hide it again. As i moved the various bits of wood about i was aware of a very sharp pain in my arm....oh i said (well not quite!!) thought i'd got seriously snagged on a bramble...what bramble! That when i saw them, hundreds of them....i legged it out of the woods grabbing my lads arm so hard i nearly pulled out of its socket! (well not that hard). I've put it down to an experience but i only got stung once and luckily i'm not allergic to them. There was no sign of the nest to give away the threat, it must have been under or in some of the logs i moved. I dont know how bad the damage was to there humble abode so i dont know if they would re-build or move on. I'd just put a warning on the cache sheet, then people can make their own minds up.....i'd still go looking but i would excersise more caution. Mart
