  3. Well done John that was quite quick from 800 to 900...... with the 1000 just around the corner i should think this next 100 will be even quicker! Mart
  4. The basic base map is not that accurate BUT the map source maps are.... spot on! Mart
  5. Why does that always happen!!! I've been looking for ages for the answer, the moment i post...... i find the answer Found a handy web site (handy if you've a Garmin that is....) http://www.gpsinformation.org/dale/wgarmin.htm Full of useful info Mart ps oh yeah the answer..... it shows you your direction of travel (if you have north selected as up), i've not stayed long enough on that screen to make the connection.
  6. I've got a Garmin Etrex Legend i wonder if anyone knows what the hell the small circle is that sometimes appears on the Horizon ring on the satellite display page . I cannot find a ref to it anywhere........... Mart
  7. Found this thread ok Well done J & H here's to MANY more . Mart
  8. Blimy you dont hang about!! Well done, 1000 by the end of Feb then!! Mart
  9. Are you referring to the basemap provided when you buy the unit or a map product you have subsequently bought and applied? (And thanks to everyone for the advice so far) I use it with maps uploaded from the Garmins Mapsource that came with the gps.
  10. I've got an etrex legend. It does not provide any active route planning (you can plan a route on the pc and upload it) but the maps it displays are still VERY usefull. When you get near to caches you can see what roads you need to take...... but you cant beat a OS map for finding the footpaths, because the shortest route isn't always the quickest!!! Mart
  11. That desperate was i to sign up for my NEW hobby/pastime/sport i had to do it NOW!!! But every name i had in mind had been claimed so i went along with something of a treasure type theme.... No one had pieces_of_8 so it was now mine Too many underscores and too long But individual . Mart or in full (really) Martin
  12. Well done John You hid your 800th find very well Mart
  13. I'd say near enough for most of the time...when you have a good signal. I use a barometric altimeter as well... that only has 10ft increments and is also dependent on the weather pressure changes... so that can also be quite away out....need to reset it at known spot hights. Anyway you should have seen the gps altitude before SA was switched off!! My house at 510ft could vary between 60ft and 1300ft.....not very helpful! Mart
  14. wow hot topic...... maybe i'll be climbing them again then....... at least i know the way now..... and maybe they'll be cloud free...... yeah right Mart
  15. Had a great time, thanks for the event Alibags. Happy Christmas to ALL Mart
  16. Good question! I've done quite a few of these virtual cache peaks...before i got into caching. I've got photos of various memorials and trig points.....in various levels of cloud and rain.. etc BUT no picture of the GPS cos I didn't own one at the time. I had wondered myself if i could claim them as finds.... i dont get to go the hilly bits of the country that often and feel i should climb new peaks whilst there rather than climbing the same ones (nice as they are) just to claim a virtual. If people say they've done them when really they haven't it just themselves they're lying to and will have to live with the guilt. I'll dig my photos out and plead with the individual cache owners Mart
  17. Well done you guys....another ton done Onwards and upwards to the next milestone! Mart
  18. Well done........ ahead of schedule as well Mart
