  1. Did it a few years ago....great fun BUT you ideally need a dedicated driver. Started at Ben Nevis finish at Snowdon timings approx (when i remembered to press lap) Started at the Loch at 03:50 Started Ben Nevis at 04:00 Reached the summit at 06:23 Back to the base 08:20 (total climb 4hrs 20min....total elapsed 4hrs 30min) Drive to Scafell Pike 5hrs 25min (total elapse 9hrs 55min) Started Scafell at 13:50 Reached the summit at 15:40 Back to base 17:03 (total climb 3hrs 13min....total elapse 13hrs 09min) Drive to Snowdon 4hrs 23min (total elapse 17hrs 32min) Started Snowdon at 21:30 Reached the summit at 23:08 Reached the base at 00:50 (total climb 3hrs 20min....total elapse 20hrs 57min) Drive to Caernarvon 17min Challenge finished at 01:07 Total challenge time 21hrs 14min 56sec (actual) total climbing time 10hrs 38min total altitude climbed 10010ft All in all a good experience BUT you're at the mercy of the traffic (and weather) regards doing it within the 24hrs. Mart
  2. Here is a thread from a few weeks back, it may be of some help to you... I thought i'd seen a thread on the forum recently BUT i couldn't find it thanks for the link...most helpfull
  3. I keep looking at the Garmin i3 but i'd like to know if it can be used for caching.......... I've an Etrex Legend to take out into the field BUT can the i3 get me to that field?? Has anyone used an i3.....if so what do you think of it.... plus points and negative points??? 1) Can you load caches as poi into the machine if so...how many? 2) Can you enter co-ords directly into the machine ie you've just done a multi/puzzel cache you just worked out where the last part is and you now need to drive to the final co-ords...can you type them in?? 3) If you can enter caches as a poi and a cache is say half a mile into a field what does the i3 do?? Take you to the nearest road location or into the field..or neither. Thanks Mart
  4. Well done young lady, 10/10 for effort Mart
  5. I had a Magallen 315 and it was very good under trees, then i upgraded (or maybe not!) to a Etrex Legend and there was a noticeable difference in performance under trees...the Etrex being far worse. I have to do alot of triangulation now, where as i could (with the 315) just arrive at "X" marks the spot and 95% of the time it'd be spot on. But i still find them...most of the time Mart
  6. 37 was my best...also around London. You need a good plan...and stick with it, also if the weathers rubbish it helps...less muggles Good luck Mart
  7. Now you know that's not true....it's the voices i hear in my head..telling me to go back!! This turned from being a hobbie to an addiction SOME CONSIDERABLE time ago Mart
  8. I suppose thinking about it really the problem is personal, from the point of view i go on a caching trip (not local) clear out an area of caches yippee , THEN a week later a load more NEW caches appear in the same area DOH!! Forcing a return visit. Just my way of thinking...not sure what my goal is...do i really want to clear the entire country!?! NO because then i'd get bored so i'm (after reading all the evidence presented) happy to let everyone continue as normal and plant away and appologise for having too much New Year cheer which may have affected my judgement Mart
  9. Top right of each message is a button 'quote'. This will copy the entire message into a box just below the one you are provided for typing in. Delete from that box any part of the message that you don't really need to quote. Scroll down the page and either preview your post just to make sure you have got it right or post it. Ah ha so thats how its done...thanks Mart
  10. [Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Too many caches, you think you have a problem? http://www.geocaching-france.com/maps/_visualiser_maps.php Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.] Err wow....Glad i dont live in France, i know its a big country but that is some travelling you'd have to do to get some big numbers up! ps HOW DO YOU QUOTE SOMETHING??????
  11. NO NO thats not a bad idea.... I was thinking what with SO MANY new cachers appearing and maybe they'll be wanting to place caches as well, the country is going to get saturated! Therefore i reckon there should be a cut off date, up to that date any caches you have placed will have Grandfather Rights and are safe and can stay BUT after that date you'll (aimed at new cachers really) only be able to place upto a certain amount of caches...say 10 (just for arguments sake) so if you want to bring out more caches you'll have to archive some of the existing one first. Not sure how easy it would be to police though? Lights blue touch paper..and retires to safe distance....... Mart
  12. The Ollies got me into it..............thank god....i think Mart
  13. Well done Ali, getting on a bit now........CACHES i mean! Mart
  14. Yep i'm with you on that... i'm normaly cursing golfers.... "who in their right mind would be out in weather like this, wacking a small white ball about...." says me who is walking around in weather like that looking for a tupaware box Mart

  19. We had a TOTAL eclipse here in Luton......you couldn't see the sun at all BUT it was the B#@@*y clouds hidding the sun not the moon...TYPICAL! Mind you after the total eclipes in 99 this would have been a bit of a disappointment at only 60% covered. Mart
  20. Roof box's great idea BUT 2 notes of caution.... 1. Bought mine from a major motor accessories retailer... during it first outing.. return leg... the hinge points failed spilling the contents of the box (luckily just sleeping bags) over the middle and fast lanes of the M5.... my that was exciting for a minute.. trying to recover them before there was and accident from people trying to avoid them... from a distance they looked like barels! If i'd been going 140+mph yes i could understand the box failing but i was doing a economic 60mph. Long and the short of this is i had a Friday afternoon box...they replaced it apparently never had this problem before.. so i always put a strap around the box as well now...belt and braces!! 2. Make sure you note the new hight of your vehical... for various barriers and/or carparks Apart from that, what have the Romans ever done for us.... Mart
