  1. Do people really need an icon as an incentive to visit the plaque?
  2. When will it end? Next we'll need an icon for having seen the corroded, nasty Original Can of Beans 1st Trade Item Travel Bug at an event cache. I just don't dig the "1 chance only" icon, that's just me.
  3. I have done a multi that took several hours to complete, and ended up exactly as you describe --- back at the starting coordinates. But I ain't sayin' which one.
  4. Since I just put it in the queue, I'd say DEFCON 5. I wonder if it's too late for a "Falken's Maze" puzzle.
  5. to quote the WOPr... "Shall we play a Game?"
  6. Surely you can see the resemblance.
  7. An excerpt from Douglas Adams' Last Chance to See, where Douglas and his crew discuss venomous snakes with an expert Australian herpetologist. --- So you're going to Komodo. Well, I don't know why you want to do that, but I suppose you have your reasons. There are fifteen different types of snakes on Komodo, and half of them are posionous. The only potentially deadly ones are the Russell's viper, the bamboo viper and the Indian cobra. The Indian cobra is the fifteenth deadliest snake in the world, and all the other fourteen are here in Australia. [...] We asked, tentatively, if we could perhaps take a snake bite detector kit with us to Komodo. "Course you can, course you can. Take as many as you like. Won't do you a blind bit of good because they're only for Australian snakes." "So what do we do if we get bitten by something deadly, then?" I asked. He blinked at me as if I were stupid. "Well what do you think you do?" he said. "You die of course. That's what deadly means."
  8. Update.... In the words of Luca Brasi, the new microcacher due on the way will be "a masculine child." Ultrasound left no doubt.... Spirited young lad, actually.
  9. As I recall, Handspring Visors are running the Palm OS. I have used Cachemate (a shareware utility which costs $8 to register) on my Palm for cache page management, and GSAK [Geocaching Swiss Army Knife, another shareware product, $20 to register) to manage my database of caches. The combination of the two works extremely well and the one-time registration fees were money well spent.
  10. I'd start small if I were you. Print a few cache pages up for the easier rated difficulty caches in your area from the www.geocaching.com website. Learn how to hand-enter the coords into your GPSr. Be aware that the cache may not be exactly at ground zero, as accuracies of 10-30 feet are to be expected. You might want to start with virtuals and larger containers, as micro caches can be tougher for the beginner. Connecting your GPS to your computer to upload caches and adding cache information to your Palm Pilot to go 'paperless' is a great thing, but in my opinion you may want to wait a bit until you get out and get a chance to go hunting.
  11. Independent of my personal opinions (and I am a smoker), I think you'd have a hard time getting that approved, due to the nature of cigars being seen as not kid-friendly.

    Making It Fair

Yeah, I seriously can't see a "Land Rush" by people wanting to get out there and place these newfangled virt/loc types. All things to those who wait.
  13. I usually will combine the two factors to come up with my difficulty rating. Sometimes I have seen people explain the difficulty rating as part of the cache description. I might give a 4 star to a fiendish puzzle with a dead easy hide. Your mileage may vary.
  14. I now know how twitchy TT gets when he gets to a cache-rich area. We decided to go cachin' up in Phoenix today, did a huge run where we both got around 35+ caches today, and when I get back home he nags me for the ones we missed. Did I mention it was over 110 degrees today? We must be insane!
  15. I'm glad people enjoyed me yapping about puzzle caches, which I know is a sore subject for a lot of cachers out there that don't appreciate 'em. Here's looking forward to more Georadio episodes!
  16. I am a university employee so if'n I want to buy CS2 it's right cheap. --- This one'll be sure to leave my behind off the Christmas list this year.
  17. Just being silly with my 30-day trial version of Photoshop CS2
  18. Uff da! Dave, The Cow Spots --- who, like his little bro TT, is half-Norge. P.S. I haven't had good lefse since my wedding reception.
  19. That's the family cabin at Bemidji Minnesota, the first city on the mighty Mississippi. Our cabin is on Lake Marquette, just south of Bemidji.
  20. I know I'm a little late to the Photoshop Tutorial Party, but I just had to post this one of me and the lil' shaver on vacation in Minnesota for ya, Harmon. Lesson #1.
  21. Apple has not perfected the fork option for the Ipod yet. I hear rumours (rumors?) that it (Ifork) will be released soon. Unfortunately, early rumors of the I-Fork state that it will only work with Apple's I-Food. The I-Fork is expected to be available in 5 happy pastel shades though it is expected to cost twice as much as a standard fork.
  22. This is a very interesting discussion. Never try to argue numbers with a scientist.
  23. Tee hee. heee heee heee... HEHEHE HHHEEEEE! HAHAHAHWHWHAHAHHAH! Ha ha. Hrm. Ok I feel better now.
