  1. Wow, I just had this exact thing happen on two of my tree climbing caches this past weekend. Here are the logs: "Found it, though didn't want to climb to sign log, it was a cold, rainy day." "Wow!! That is very high up!! We found it looking up, didn't climb to retrieve it. It was a cold, rainy day, was afraid to slip." The cacher is a newbie so I sent them the following email: Hello and welcome to geocaching!! I see that you searched for two of my tree climbing caches but was unable to climb the trees due to the weather. In geocaching it is required that you sign the log in the container in order to log the cache as found. If you could please delete your logs or if you would like I can delete them for you. Hopefully nice weather is on the horizon and you can return to climb the trees and log the finds. Thanks and happy caching!! In both of our cases I consider them DNF's since the whole point of the cache is to have cachers climb the tree.
  2. --> QUOTE(brian b @ Mar 28 2010, 05:23 PM) 4276474[/snapback] Yeah, but what's the recipe for the Grape Crush? 1 shot of Chambord 1 shot of Vodka 2 shots of Sour Mix Serve on the rocks and top it off with club soda.
  3. After I posted the pic, I realized that I was setting myself up for some ball busting The wife and kids are away for 2 weeks so it is party time!!! I have to make sure my wife doesn't see that pic because she will see how much of a mess the house is. Yikes! The vodka and chambord are for a drink called a "grape crush" and since the wife is away, I have to cook for myself. And because I am a lousy cook, I am reliving my college days where a batch of Mac N' Cheese was a meal. And about the best I can come to homemade cooking is momma's secret recipe for rice pilaf (partnered with a hot dog and I am living the high life ) . Now, if we can please keep this thread on topic!!!
  4. I found two different real LnL's at the Amazing Savings store in Verona: http://www.amazingsavings.com/ I paid $.99 for this round 7" diameter x 4" high LnL. I paid $1.99 for this rectangular 8"x5"x3" LnL These are the ones made in Korea which I have read in a forum somewhere might not be as good as the China ones but they seem to be of good quality. You definately will need to camouflage them unless you plan on hiding them among birthday gifts or near a plaid tree.
  5. "No, the length of my online logs has not been affected by cache size."
  6. The Devil's Hole - GCGY04 was a fun 5/5 multi cache that I completed in about 4 hours in 1 day although it can be completed over several trips if you prefer. I rode my mountain bike to each stage and it was a thrill to complete. It might be tought to complete on a road bike since the stages are off a rail trail but you can drive/ bike via roadways that cross the trail and walk in from there.
  7. One cache was placed in a mini-park that is part of the office building my company manages in NYC. The park is only open 7am - 7pm and the cache was published at 9pm so it was closed to the public. Now I am the security manager for the building and I was working at the time so I was the only geocacher in the world that had access to the cache at the time of publication (unless one of my security staff was a cacher). I laughed the whole time as I casually took my time searching for the cache knowing that none of the usual FTF hounds could have reached the cache before me. I also placed all of my midtown Manhattan caches while on the clock. You can probably tell the area where I work based on my cache placements since they are within a 7 block radius of my work.
  8. Video has been removed. I hope for updating.
  9. I have ordered from this ebay seller: http://cgi.ebay.com/8-EMPTY-US-Military-M2...=item3ca9a9f640 I live in NJ and shipping was $24.87 so each 50cal can came out to just under $8. I guess if you live further away shipping might be more. Quick shipping and great condition of the cans.
  10. I was curious as to what you would use to help preserve a real wood log that you cut a hole in to hide a cache? I imagine that if you don't use some sort of preservative it would eventually rot away. Thank you for your help.
  11. My favorite cache of mine is this: Beware of Dogs!! I built a small dog house with a door on it and inside I placed this: Ruff!! When you open the door or move the dog house it starts to bark at you and it vibrates. I had also posted some "Beware of Dogs" signs on nearby dead trees along the trail leading to the cache.
  12. I tried listing a cache named "Exxon/Barclay's" which was located in a min-park between the Exxon building and the Barclay's building in NYC and I was told by the reviewer that I had to change the name because of the "Use of corporate names in the cache page" I wasn't promoting the companies but just referring to the location. oh well.
  13. Sounds like an excuse someone uses for not picking up after their dog/ horse.
  14. Oh boy, it is never a good thing when your name is the first word on a post for an unsatisfactory review. Thank you for the review. I am surprised to hear about the long delivery time since I had fast delivery the few times I have ordered from them. You say the quality isn't the same as the PEP containers but what is the price difference? Wow, I am glad I didn't order any. They sound like they should still make a decent cache container.
  15. Arguments like yours discount the fact that they are 'all over the place' because people hide them often. I submit that people frequently hide them because they like them. They are popular. That would not be the case for me. I have hidden quite a few urban micros here in NYC not because I enjoy finding/hiding micros but because they are pretty much the only size cache that can be hidden in that environment. I would love to hide larger caches but concealing them would be much tougher. I don't mind micros but I do prefer a nice hike through the woods over a park and grab, regardless of the cache size . I did hide one cache in NYC that is a size small (small L n L) and I get frequent logs stating how large the container is for a NYC hide.
  16. They do have some nice stuff but I do not see any of the same products there. These bison type tubes are much larger than the standard small ones.
  17. No vested interest in the company. Just happy to share a good thing when I find it. I know I might catch some flack for promoting the hiding of micros but at least these are larger sized micros.
  18. I saw a post some time back pointing to cheap prices on magnets at www.dealextreme.com. In addition to the magnets I found these two containers at the site: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.24472 http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.27551 These are larger sized micros (5.75 in x 1.38 in x 1.38 in and 0.98 in x 0.98 in x 3.39 in) and the prices are quite reasonable with free shipping on all items. The alluminum container is not listed with an o-ring but a poster mentioned that his arrived with an o-ring. If not you can pick up a pack of o-rings to make them waterproof. If you buy 3 or more the price drops significantly. Buy 10 or more to get the cheapest price listed. I have ordered from them recently and had good service. Cache on! -slukster
  19. I am one who enjoys putting together a nice cache page with lots of HTML. It was brought to my attention though that the program I was using used a lot of table tags which caused the caches not to be viewable on the Colorado and Oregon. I have since removed these table tags but kept the rest of the HTML. Here are two of my favorites: #GC1J5MA Beware of Dogs!! #GC1NBJ9 An Obnoxious Cache If you enjoy putting together an entertaining page then by all means do it. The important info will still be visible with a little extra work for the paperless cacher.
  20. I was successful in revamping my cache page to be viewable on the Colorado/ Oregon. As was suggested it was the tables that were screwing things up. The only thing that sucks is that I lose the ability to put a background image on my cache pages. I always had fun finding an appropriate pic to add in the background. I know I can add a background image through GC but that background only shows up around the perimeter of the page. Oh well, not a big deal. My project now is going to be going through all of my 44 active caches to change the code around. Man, the things I do to satisfy all of you snooty Oregon/ Colorado owners. Thanks again to all for your help.
  21. All of the HTML in my listings was created by the program I use. I just type in the info in special fields and it formats it automatically. After using it for some time now I have become more familiar with HTML and can manipulate the raw HTML but for the most part I have not had to do it.
  22. Thank you all for the input. The program I use is actually designed to upload to Ebay for auction pages so that might have something to do with it as well. I will have to revamp my HTML to cut out using tables and see how it goes. I have TheSurfcaster and bigA800 who have been helping me test things as I make changes. Hopefully I can straighten things out. If I figure things out I will post my results. Thanks again!!
  23. I have received word from a few of my local cachers that they are unable to view my cache pages when loaded to their Oregon/ Colorado GPSr's. I use a lot of HTML in my cache descriptions and think this might be part of the problem but I can't figure it out. Another local cacher uses a lot of HTML as well but they have not had problems with the pages loading to these GPSr's. Can someone please take a look at my cache pages and help me figure out what might be the problem? Here is one that definately is a problem: Head Hunter Has Gone Fishing HTML for page: <table class="FFG448" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" background="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3449/3241547889_08e36a1d6b_o.jpg" width="100%" align="center"> <tr> <td> <center><img border="0" align="middle" width="394" height="86" vspace="10" hspace="10" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3445/3241416487_0493e6e4f9_o.jpg" /> <br /> <img border="0" align="middle" width="385" height="400" vspace="10" hspace="10" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3312/3242254526_d2eb604a59_o.gif" /> </center> <table width="100%" align="center" background='' cellpadding="5"> <tr> <td> <center><font face='Comic Sans MS' color="#000000" size="+2">After working hard for so many years, creating the best shrunken heads his village has ever seen, this headhunter is in need of some time off.
