  1. The pictures are okay -- I have a few pictures in my gallery that were taken with a Zire 71. The resolution is not great - only 640 x 480. I have seen some pretty decent pictures taken with it. The Zire 72 has much better resolution (1.2), but for posting a quick photo on a web log, I think it is fine.
  2. This might be a little cost prohibitive, but I've seen some of those disposable digital cameras that will get you digital prints that are easily uploaded to a website. Another fun idea is one of those polaroid I-Zone cameras -- having one in a cache that allows finders to snap a quick photo as a small sticker to place on the log book.
  3. I was on a binge where I tried to get as many as possible in one trek. I've had a "dry spell" lately, but what has really helped me is changing my mental approach: My first approach was to just find it, get out of there and go on to the next. I never took time to enjoy the location, look around and see the reason people put the cache there in the first place. Now I spend more time on the cache; Reminding myself that this is more about the hunt and the intangible benefits. Enjoying the trip there, finding out more about the city where you live and just getting out of the house and spending time doing something more productive are my reasons for doing it.
  4. I have a Zire 71 and hardly have any problems with it since I got a hard case. My battey lasts 10x longer now Once I had an issue where it was going nuts because of a simple grain of sand that was stuck between the screen and the frame - it was causing pressure on the screen. Tim P.
  5. I have a Zire 71 and I am paperless. My recommendations: Become a premium member so you can get .gpx format and run a Pocket Query (PQ) for your caches. Use GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) --- this program can upload all the waypoints to your GPSr and can also create an export of the caches for your palm to either 1) html files - then you can use Plucker to "read" the html files Or 2) use Cachemate (my recommendation). This is only a $7 dollar program for your palm that takes little memory. GSAK can also create a .pdb file for Cachemate to read that is much smaller and faster than exporting to html for plucker. (Though Plucker is free). Cachemate can read the .pdb file from either ram or from the memory card. I have a pocket query that runs for me early on saturday mornings - in less than 5 minutes, I have over 100 waypoints in my GPSr and in Cachemate.
  6. I think this is an urban legend -- This sounds awfully familiar
  7. It's a huge Michael Moore love fest Democratic National Convention
  8. I'd think that any caches near the DNC would be incredibly hard to find - the coordinates would keep flip - flopping around
  9. Just Northwest of atlanta is the Silver Comet Trail - a long trail for bike riders and walkers that stretch for miles -- there are quite a number of caches along the trail. Might want to check out the Georgia Geocachers web site http://www.ggaonline.org There is a list of awards for best caches. Here is one cache along the trail : Silver Comet Cross Tie Cache this might give you a general idea of what is in the area. There are a lot of caches in that area. One of my favorites that I found recently is this one : Humpty Dumpty and the Silver Bullet Nice little micro and there is a Travel Bug Motel not far from there. Good Luck!
  10. I think that if you open a .loc file in easygps, the program will save it into a different file format, but keep the .loc extension. If you try to open that file in a different program, it may not recognizeit. Try re-downloading and updating again.
  11. I am using the same thing -- what I am going to start to do is name my photo the same as the waypoint, then add a note in my log like "P" to remind me that I took a photo when I post the log.
  12. I'm a new rider and geocacher as well. I'd like to get together with some others as well. I have a dual sport yamaha xt225 that gets me to just about everywhere I need to go.
  13. It may be that winxp has the .loc extension mapped to a program that is trying to launch or something. A couple of suggestions: First, do a right mouse click on the file and select Save Target As... and save the file that way. Or like others suggested, if you install a program like easyGPS or GSAK, it may change the association for you in winxp and fix the problem. Good Luck! Tim P.
