  1. I just got my 450T and want to start a new account for the family, and as such I want 'the family' to be able to find some of the 30 caches I have found over the past 4 years. But even though I have not applied any filters anywhere in GSAK or the Oregon, the already found caches are not showing up on the 450. ever mind... I found the "Show Found" button on the Garmin. Now I just need to find how to apply the Geocache Filter on the Oregon. Posting this in case others also have this issue.
  2. I found it interesting that the 450T was actually cheaper than the 450. Normally the 450T is $80-90 MORE than the 450. Phil
  3. GPSCity has the Garmin Oregon 450T for $329 at GPS City Seems a nice price, so I got one Oregon 450 is $339...
  4. Right now I have an iPhone 3G and a Garmin GPS 12MAP that I use for geocaching. The GPS 12 MAP tends to get better reception under the trees here in Vermont than the iPhone, so I switch between that and using the iPhone app GPS by x-motion with the google Earth sat images pre-cached to find the cache (I transfer the lat/long of the cache to the iPhone app). My question is would I get better reception under the dense foliage if I was to get an external antenna? I see you can get the Glisson or the Garmin external antennas for this unit for about $25 USD from ebay and other shops. I Want to get an Oregon 300, but not in the numbers at this time. Anyone out there gone this route? and what was your experience with it in terms of reception and accuracy of the GPS 12MAP with an external antenna+ Thanks for any responses I get.
  5. Until this spring, the GPS 12 MAP was my only geocaching GPS. I now have an iPhone that is not great either. The problem is that here in vermont all the caches are under dense tree cover. And Neither unit works well under the trees. Using the iPhone I transfer the lat/log to the GPS x-motion application and cache the google earth map and use that to try to find GZ. So far it has been better than the geocache app by Groundspeak and better than the GPS 12 MAP.
  6. Yes, it does only have 6 character waypoint names. I do have an interface cable so have uploaded some Road & Rec maps for my area onto the unit.
  7. Hi there, Great place here. A friend of mine got me onto geocaching and I have since inherited a Garmin GPS 12 Map with Roads and Rec, MapSource and Topo Discs for it from the same era as the unit (around 2001 I think). After some help here I was able to upload the Roads and Rec maps to the GPS unit. My question is really more general to the 12 Map than anything else. I am looking for an expert in the Garmin GPS 12 Map to give me hints as to it's capabilities. Right now I make a new Waypoint in the GPS unit by typing in a name and the coordinates using the rocker switch. My guess is there is a better solution. (BTW, this is a serial cord connection) I also have a PPC phone that I would like to try paperless with, but thats for another topic... Essentially, what do the experts do with this unit? What are all the tips and tricks? Can you upload routes? Trails that you find online? POI's? Whats can you download from the unit and why would you? Should I upgrade the Firmware to 2.05 from 2.03? Can you have both Road & Rec maps and Topo maps loaded at the same time? Can you have both running? Think if it as a primer for geocaching with an old GPS. Thanks! Phlerb
