  1. Considering the price difference between the 2 gps units and the fact that you will need memory, a cable and mapsource software, it would seem foolish to buy the VentureCx. Why even produce such a unit? Garmin really boggles my mind when the release some units. This is one of those units.
  2. Is the only difference between the VentureCx and LegendCx is that the Venture doesn't ship with a memory card. Garmin's site seems vague when comparing the two.
  3. I used to get WAAS locks with D's on my 60CSx when I first got it. Since #35 has been on the move, I periodically see it flash and disappear but no locks or D's. I believe WAAS works fine, but since the satellites are in transition it will be intermittent at best. BTW, I'm in Massachusetts.
  4. my vote goes to gpsnow.com. i have bought all my units there and always will... for as long as they stay in business
  5. I agree about this being a useless update. What about fixing the short upcoming turn issue, the lower volume on the unit, this issue with not regaining lock after exiting tunnels. Come on Garmin, fix the important stuff.
  6. In your original post, you said GPS 60, so I thought you meant the yellow one If it's the GPSMAP 60, then yes it's comparable to the GPSMAP 60C... gosh darn Garmin and their naming conventions One KEY difference is the MAP 60 has only 24 MB of memory compared to 56MB for the 60C
  7. If your looking for a nice basic unit to just find geocaches and maybe create track logs, this is a great unit. Since you don't have a need for the sensors or mapping there is nothing wrong with this unit. If your able to afford a bit more, I would recommend the 60C as the color screen is quite impressive and the addition of mapping comes in handy when topo maps are loaded and you are trekking through unfamiliar woods.
  8. I noticed this as well and emailed Garmin. My 60CS is louder than my 60CSx.
  9. Sounds strange to me. All new GPS units have issues when first released and soon after comes a firmware update to fix those issues. I have no idea what they would talking about...
  10. Thanks for the info BlackJack65... I'll try to contact.
  11. Hi all, I'm trying to locate my Mission Mickey TB which was last seen in the now archived cache Gobblers Knob. It appears as though the TB was picked up by RFHunter before the cache went missing. I have emailed RFHunter a couple times and have gotten no response. I was just curious if anyone happens to know RFHunter or has seen my TB pop up elsewhere? Thanks!
  12. Well I'll be damned there they are. I'm not sure why they would add emergency services into the community group... they should have left it as a seperate item. Why do these companies break things when they don't need fixing in the first place! Thanks Timpat, I can always count on you... now set up some big reflectors out there in NY and send sat 33 my way...
  13. Hey gang, Just noticed another difference between this and my old 60CS. When selecting the find button there used to be an icon for emergency services. On my new 60CSx and CN 7 all I see that is close is Hospitals. The emergency services icon would show police and fire stations etc... Am I just not seeing it, or does it no longer exist??? Can anyone confirm?
  14. re-read my post you don't need to remove the card
  15. Here in MA I have not seen 33 or 35 for 3 days now
  16. new firmware is not a problem, works fine for me Batteries - lithiums have caused issues due to voltage. use alkaline and NiMH for now untill Garmin updates the firmware to fix the lithium problem
  17. any specific reason why you had to reset? Just curious to see what would happen... I like to tinker
  18. Day #3 of no WAAS for me here in Massachusetts although on the bright side I'm still getting 11 - 15 ft accuracy on the 60CSx
  19. Since mapping is not a big deal for you, memory requirements wouldn't be high. I would recommend the older Garmin 60CS or VistaC as the prices are coming down since the new X units are out. It has everything you are looking for and you could load the topo maps which would be beneficial on long trips in the woods to find a cache. One more thing, since the electronic compass is important to you these units typically have mapping capabilities so consider it an added bonus
  20. As an update, I tried this myself and the master reset will not erase the maps on the transflash card and it will also not reset the information you put into the welcome screen. It will re-initialize everything else though...
  21. 2.5 firmware has been fine for me as well, although for 2 days in a row now I have not seen WAAS 33 or 35
  22. Well, make that 2 days in a row that I have not had WAAS... neither 33 or 35
  23. I normally lock onto #35 every day, but today was the first day I haven't seen it. I'm in Massachusetts.
