  1. Is there a way to view the trails in Northwest Trails in Mapsource? I installed Northwest Trails, opened Mapsource, changed the view to Northwest Trails, and only got a big white square. I thought it would be nice to see waypoints in relation to the trails --- on my computer ---. PastorDIC Battle Ground, WA
  2. I would have to say GC1169 Mission 9 Tunnel of Light with a 2.7 mile walk through a rails to trails Railroad Tunnel. I would love to do it a second time, but now that I have peripherakl neuropathy I probably not get to. The picture is myself at the east end of the tunnel (It's at an angle because I was using a self timer and various debris to get the camera at the right angle to get my picture and not just the gravel of the trail.)
  3. Where are these maps?? or are they still in dev? If you go to a TB page and look just above the logs you will see this Tracking History (3335202.8km ) View Map just click on the "View Map" it now opens with a google map There's a problem with it. It's not working right.... I tried going to the Google map of a number of TBs. They all open up to the same Google map of the middle of the ocean saying it is Travel Bug Map for OPERATION FLASHPOINT .
  4. Everything people have mentioned seems a lot of extra work for Moun10Bike. To me it seems better to: 1) Keep the current challenge so the current one doesn't have to be archived and a new one started. That way 'Moun10Bike' doesn't have to keep track of 2 maps or Archive the old one and start the new one. 2) Use the 2008 atlas for everyone. Since there are fewer squares it shouldn't matter that much for those of us (including myself) that have already started the challenge. Why have to archive the old one to create a simiar one? That way there only needs to be one set of waypoints and page border lines. If everyone is using the same map it is easier for moun10Bike to administer the cache. 2) Just like it was before select a cutoff date for cache placement, and allow a certain amount of time for new cache placement only if there is no cache in a certain page. The cuttoff date is just as easy to filter out in GSAK as it is to filter out other states. 3) Keep using the old finds since there will be some blocks with only one cache. Clearing away caches that people have already done would make some people unable to complete the challenge. 4) With new changes due to the new map pages the main idea should be simplicity so it is easier for Mou10Bike to administer. 5) Whatever changes are made to the rules, a bunch of us (including myself) are going to finish the challenge no matter what. 6) This should be fun for Moun10Bike too, not just us. 5. Yeah, you never know when you won't be able to make it out of that pocket park or your local Wal Mart parking lot. Wouldn't a GPSr given them the same information...assuming they knew how to use it? But a cool story nonetheless...... I have a different problem with WalMart. Sometimes I need a GPS to find my car IN the parking lot.
  6. Where do you live? Transportation costs to and from Battle Ground would probably be prohibiyive.
  7. This time of year there is the additional problem of reduced sunlight in getting your caches checked on. I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark on an Express Bus, so as it is, I'm going to have to get out there on the weekend and get some TB's back in caches I've been holding too long. I'll need to check where my caches are, but that is nothing compared to the 20 mile strip of Interstate 5 by Chehalis WA that is still under water. I hope all the cachers up there (as well as everyone else) are still amon the living.
  8. I'd like to turn my dog into a geocoin holder. Are there any dog related geocoins with a hole that I could just put on her collar right next to the license tag and rabies vaccination tag?????? My dog would LOVE all the extra attention too. THanks.
  9. I would also like it. With over 700 caches found, I can't remember them all. I look up a lot of caches when I get the notification of changes to the cache e-mail, so there is no notification that I alrready found the cache.
  10. I have a relatively new Garmin GPSmap 60cx and the rocker button doesn't work any more. (The big button to move the cursor up, down, left, right.) Has anyone had the same problem? The button still moves and dips, but nothing happens. Do I try taking it apart? Just go ahead and try to get Garmin fix it under warrenty? Has anyone had to get their GPS fixed by Garmin? What was your experience?
  11. What about the oldest active cache in WA? Mountain Marsh ===> CG8 <===.
  12. I am also on the TB watch list. Too bad you are so far away from me or I would drag my poor geocaching widow over for the event. Russ Fletcher (PastorDIC) Battle Ground, WA
  13. Now if we could all just put the TB on our watch list.
  14. Yes we have. I'm still disappointed you never found the bear. Maybe I'll get to at least find this TB. Russ
  15. Merry Christmas from PastorDIC. I'll be an early replier so someone else can get the coin.
  16. I love full backlit and the color of the Garmin Map60C. I just buy the rechargeable batteries with the largest power (milliamps?) rating for my size of battery. Since I use the rechargeables it doesn't matter how fast the backlit or the color uses them up.
  17. I go to a GC page and copy the symbol from there.
  18. I'd have to agree with the NO sound group. 1) Usually obnoxious, 2) Often the sound comes on well after everything else has loaded so you jump. 3) I would LOVE to even have Cable, but can only afford Dial Up $95.00/year.
  19. So what are the conditions for a cache that "just beg to be done at night". I haven't done many night caches, but this winter I will be starting to. Last Saturday I just got my package from Walmart.com containing a 6.5 MILLION Candle Power Rechargeable Spotlight (Cyclops THOR X Scout). That should light up the area for me to find caches! I might be able to find some of the pesky micros if they reflect too? "I'm just walking my dog ma'am. It's dark out tonight, isn't it."
  20. You can see this question with some pictures in this message. The biggest I have found is Mission 9: Tunnel of Light.
  21. Wohoo! My coin just made a 2237.16 mile jump! That should put it in the top 20!
  22. Do you use EasyGPS (free) or ExpertGPS? I can convert the grids to that format without any trouble for you. Otherwise, I can give you the link to my almost completed WA DeLorme bookmark list to get you in the neighborhood of each grid (and to help you find the hard ones where there are only one or two cafhes in some grids (like 35)).
  23. maybe try Googling NORTHWEST Treasurehunter Association instead of NW?
  24. There is a night cache in the Tacoma area I have been watching ever since it came out. Control The Night sounds like a reallly fun one. Too bad it is so far away from Battle Ground WA.
  25. With a micro built into it as I understand it. Here it is. The link for the tribute plaque cache by the original site is correct. However, it is a small ammo can, not a microcache. The page states "There is an ammo can within 5' of this cache, " Here is a portion of the details from the page: On May 3, 2000, a five-gallon bucket was placed right at this very spot by Dave Ulmer, containing Delorme Topo USA and 2 CD Roms, a cassette recorder, a "George of the Jungle" VHS tape, a Ross Perot book, 4 $1 bills, a slingshot handle, and a very famous can of beans (now the O.C.B. T.B.!) The coordinates were then listed on the Internet and modern-day Geocaching was born. The first finder of that first cache was Mike Teague, who took the money and left some cigarettes, a cassette tape and a pen. Although that original bucket was severely damaged by an Oregon Road Crew mower and is no longer around, TEAM 360 and many other concerned geocachers recognized the importance of that event which happened here and dedicate this ORIGINAL STASH TRIBUTE PLAQUE on behalf of cachers everywhere. Keeping with tradition, there IS a logbook to sign at this site. It is RIGHT there and very easy to get at. Please do not try to pry up or move the Plaque at all to find it. There is also a nearby ammo can for Travel Bugs and trade items. Russ (PastorDIC)
