  1. True. Although The Hanging Meadows will have to be removed if the pending wilderness bill becomes law. As will two of my caches in the Columbia River Gorge. Wow, that hike sounds fantastic! HOTM potential... As for the pending legislation, existing caches appear to be grandfathered in Wilderness Areas. You just can't place new ones. Yes indeed! I did this hike back in 1996 when I was living in the Vancouver area for my fisheries job. It's a good workout alright. The plateau is a cool place! Amazing how flat it is after all that elevation gain. Good to hear that the cache will remain as I definitely want to get it next time I'm in the area. Since Ruckle Creek Trail up to the Benson Plateau is part of my personal plan to get in shape for climbing Mount Saint Helens I need too ask: Has anyone heard lately whether the wilderness bill passed or failed?
  2. Mt Pilchuck - Mountain Loop Hwy (Purgatory cache) Mt Higgins - Mountain Loop Hwy (Mount Higgins cache) Do you have elevation changes for these hikes? I'd be willing to add them to my list and put them in the bookmark in my forum signature. Here is what I have so far: 1000 feet elevation climb -- FP1 The top of Forest Park, starting from the bottom. For example, start at the trailhead on Bridge Avenue and hike up to "FP1". 1500 feet elevation climb -- Angel's Rest Cache at Angel's Rest 2000 feet elevation climb -- King's Ransom Kings Mountain 2500 feet elevation climb -- Cowboy and Indian Indian Point 3000 feet elevation climb -- Dog Mountain Trail Cache Dog Mountain 3300 feet elevation climb -- Table Mountain Table Mountain 3700 feet elevation climb -- SiHi. Mount Si. Unfortunately it is located near North Bend, Washington, SE of Snoqualmie and north of I-90. You can (almost) see this one from most of Seattle! 4000 feet elevation climb -- Larch Mountain Picnic starting from Multnomah Falls and ending on OREGON's Larch Mountain 4000 feet elevation climb -- Nesmith Point Cache Nesmith Point trail starts at John B. Yeon State Park 5000 feet elevation climb -- 4895 Mt Defiance. Start from Starvation Creek (Exit 54, eastbound on Interstate 84). Mount Saint Helens -- Above the Clouds -- 4500 feet elevation gain. On the side of Mount Saint Helens. Elevation gain from Climber's Bivouac is 4500 feet. Mt Margaret - Snoqualmie Pass (oldest existing cache in WA )

In making Ruckle Creek Trail up to the Benson Plateau a Wilderness Area I hope they don't limit people hiking in there. This hike (even though I have only done it once) is in top two hikes in terms of great memories of hiking with my father. There are so many different plant features in this area.
  4. Those of you that have climbed Mount Saint Helens, do you like hiking it when there is snow/ice on the mountain or later on in the year when you have to deal with the ash?
  5. I don't think software like Easy PDF are the answer because the PDFs we had were rather elegent, informative, and compact. The new print option has things too spread out. You shouldn't have to look all the way across the page to see size, difficulty, and terrain. Also the font makes the coordinates take up half the page. Despite grumbling about loosing the PDF versions, I really like being able to have the map on the cache page. Thanks!
  6. I tried Firefox on my Desktop computer and it practically froze the entire thing, even when I had lots of memory and I was only running the browser. I had to delete it and then go into RegEdit and pick out the leftover pieces of Firefox the uninstall program didn't take out. Because of that, Firefox isn't getting anywhere near my laptop!!!
  7. I agree completely. I liked the PDF version. It consistantly saved printing at least one page, saving trees, staples, and made a much smaller pile of caching sheets to clutter up the house with.
  8. Thanks! As I find out about them I will add them to the public bookmark I made from the ones previously mentioned on this forum. The bookmark is Climb Mount Saint Helens (Here's the Training)
  9. Since you have to sign the Climber's Register before hiking Mount Saint Helens, do you have to go all the way back from the Hikers Bivoac to The Lone Fir Resort to sign the Register, then back to the trailhead at the Bivoac, or can you sign the register the night before when you are picking up your ticket(s) and Bivoac permit at the Lone Fir Resort?
  10. Thanks klossner and TotemLake for the caches with elevations. Does anyone know of the waypoint numbers for "Mt Defiance" Cache and "Mt Si" caches? Using the search function I have not been able to find them using multiple spellings. I have started a bookmark called "Climb Mount Saint Helens (Here's the Training)" that includes Above the Clouds as the final cache. Unfortunately no one else is going to be able to find it and use it on the Above the Clouds cache page unless they click on "View all 20 bookmark lists..." Oh, also if anyone has any more caches with the elevation changes, please keep them coming.
  11. Plenty of puzzle caches are EVIL. Here are two examples, both placed by my neighbor Chirpz, Evil. Evil. Evil. I have been working on and off for months. I Spy and Hexed. They are the only 2 caches of 3 pages of caches that I haven't found.
  12. Yes, please post any generic dog coins available. I have been looking for one also.
  13. A few of us were talking about climbing Mount Saint Helens next summer. We don't know where to start. What all do we need to know to climb the mountain and find the cache? We don't want to miss something and we don't want to be starting back down the mountain at dark. PastorDIC (Now at 1013 caches). Battle Ground, Wa
  14. Despite the snow and ice I am at 1013. Finally I am over 1000 caches!!! PastorDIC
  15. The reason the old message came back to the top was because I was looking for a GeoDog Geocoin for 2 new cachers and posted this message: I have a couple of new geocachers that want a GeoDog Geocoin for their dog. It seems GeocoinShop.com must be no longer selling them. (It seems to me there would be a constant demand for this one.) Does anyone have a GeoDog Geocoin to sell or trader? Russ (PastorDIC)

  17. 1) I'm surprised by the comments so far. I have almost 1000 finds and I don't remember a single time that there were attachments to TBs or geocoins unless that was stated on the mission. 2)Don't know. Regardless of whether others think it is ok or not, if the attachment is defacing the geocoin or TB, I would definitely be upset. I've never added anything to the TB or coin except a new ziplock bag, and if it has a special mission to go somewhere I try to both take it in that direction and comment in the log and online where it is heading. Some people take TBs and then find later that they took it in the wrong direction, so the comment in the log helps them know.
  18. Sorry I cannot help, but I have an even more basic question. How do you create POI's on a Garmin (Cx)? Thanks.
  19. In some caches that are key hiders and tiny fake rocks I have seen Mini/Micro Ziplock style bags to protect the log. I have never seen them being sold anywhere. Where can I buy them and what are they called? Thank you.
  20. Mission 9: Tunnel of Light GC1169 P.S. I hope your recovery/treatment is coming along well.
  21. Don't feel bad. I have several on the Columbia River I would like to do, but I am boatless also. Russ (PastorDIC)
  22. With the Northwest Trails Project are you also interested in trails within cities? For instance, within Vancouver WA USA are miles of trails from the Ellen Davis Trail Burndt Bridge Creek trail, several greenways, and of course over on Portland, OR is Forest Park, which is entirely within Portland, but is a huge park.
  23. Send it West! Send it West! I want to see it out here in SW Washington. PastorDIC (Russ) Battle Ground, WA
  24. Are Pocket Queries working or are they down? I've used them for a long time and I haven't had any trouble in the past, but yesterday and today I made some and they never showed up in my e-mail. I went back and made sure everything was checked ok and still no success. Thanks for any responses. Russ (PastorDIC)
