  1. No, my Magellan found about 30 of them and pin pointed ground zero in two locations about 250 feet apart. But all the searching gave me extra time to enjoy the view up there. So... Magellan = More Fun. Christmas can't come soon enough! It must be peak season right now.
  2. I am relatively sure that the cache in question is located fully within Ramapo County Reservation. Although the borders are fuzzy, I have it from good sources that the placer checked the location of the cache way more times than average placers have to check. But why stop at one cache for the day? Keep on going. There are some great ones in the area including a really frustrating Fluffy Pink Bunnies cache by some guy named Brian something. (Really Brian, near the dead tree in the woods? What kind of a clue is that?). Even if you can't find the cache up there, the view is really amazing. I just wish I brought the good camera with me. The camera phone pictures are horrendous for the gret landscape shots. I really do recommend that everyone try the caches in the area. They are great.
  3. Hey, Congratulations! Keep on going to 700! etc.. I really never know what to say to these kinds of posts but congratulations! <EDIT> Forgot to say thank you for all the great caches and events. It is a pleasure to know you and thanks for all of your contributions to the game.<Edit>
  4. By the way, the difficulty rating is generated by the GC website rating system. I don't think they take in to account people stealing cookies from a 2 1/2 year old to boost their own energy. Pack your own cookies, and enjoy the hike. By the way, when the cache was originally placed, the terrain was much thornier, and definitly warranted the extra difficulty. I can drop the rating as needed if someone who's opinion counts lets me know it is rated too high. Or even Avroair for that matter.
  5. They are part of the park. (Whether they are within Ramapo Reservation or Ringwood State Park, I don't know, because the two parks are connected. While your there, don't forget BrianSnat's Triple Tree, Warm Furry Kittens, A River Runs To It, Fluffy Pink Bunnies, Bird is the Word, Goat House, as well as GeoKenders Mind Your Steeps, Rocky Mountain Micro Challenge, and maybe a few others.
  6. NEWS RELEASE Governor James E. McGreevey October 21, 2004 FOR MORE INFORMATION: Micah Rasmussen - 609-777-2600 GOVERNOR McGREEVEY ANNOUNCES DESIGNATION OF THREE NEW STATE PARKS National Design Competition to Be Held for Trenton and Paterson Sites (PATERSON) - Governor James E. McGreevey today announced the designation of three new state parks at historic destinations in Paterson, Trenton and River Edge, adding that a national competition would be held for the design of the Trenton and Paterson sites. "Our parks and open spaces are the pride and joy of New Jersey," said McGreevey. "Parks create a sense of place, provide recreational and educational experiences, protect the environment and boost the economy. A world of opportunities and advantages rests in these new parks, which benefit not just our urban centers but all of New Jersey." In his 2003 State of the State Address, McGreevey promised to create at least two new state parks and upgrade or create 200 local parks across New Jersey. To date, 205 local parks have been either built or improved. The Governor made the announcement at the Great Falls in Paterson, where he was joined by Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bradley M. Campbell and Paterson Mayor José "Joey" Torres. "Trenton, Paterson and River Edge have natural and historic treasures that are pathways to New Jersey's history - from the Dutch settlements at River Edge, to the pivotal Battle of Trenton, to the advent of the industrial revolution in Paterson," said Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bradley M. Campbell. "New parks in these cities will be centerpieces of community renewal in areas that are under-served by our parks system." The design competition for the Paterson park will focus on ecological aesthetics of the Great Falls and the city's Native American and industrial history. The 77-foot Great Falls is the second largest waterfall by volume and width east of the Mississippi River. Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the Treasury, called Paterson America's first planned industrial city as a result of the extensive waterpower the Great Falls provided. "Tourism is an important part of Paterson's future," said Torres. "I thank Governor McGreevey for recognizing the significance of the Great Falls. By designating this area a state park, we are extending an invitation for visitors to come experience Paterson's rich history and proud culture." The park in Trenton will link the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park to existing parks and historic sites including the Hamilton-Trenton Marsh, Stacy Park, Mill Hill Park, the Trenton Battle Monument and three national historic landmarks - the Old Barracks Museum, the John Abbott National Historic Landmark and the William Trent House. The reclamation and restoration of Stacy Park will complete the historic restoration of the State House Complex. The River Edge state park will be located at Historic New Bridge Landing and will include the state-owned Steuben House and the historic pony-truss swing bridge, as well as a new visitor's center, an interpretive center and additional open space. During the American Revolution, Historic New Bridge Landing was a strategic river crossing that served as a battleground, intelligence-gathering post, encampment ground and military headquarters. Historic New Bridge Landing is located in River Edge, Bergen County, at the edge of Teaneck, Hackensack and New Milford. The design competition seeks submissions that will enhance accessibility, connectivity, and the integration of natural and man-made environments and will emphasize historical and ecological treasures. The state has allocated $300,000 to implement the competition, which DEP and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts will jointly sponsor. The competition will be open to architects, landscape architects, planners, engineers, artists, urban designers and students sponsored by a design professional. "New York's Central Park, the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, and the National Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the Mall in Washington, DC are just a few of the dozens of major public spaces that were the result of design competitions," said Tom Moran, senior program officer for the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. "The Council looks forward to managing a design competition process that yields fresh and creative concepts for these important new urban state parks. The competition will promote design excellence and innovation for these parks and will be an opportunity for both unrecognized as well as established talents to enter." The New Jersey State Council on the Arts will accept expressions of interest from those interested in submitting designs for the Trenton and Paterson parks through February 2005. Informational sessions will be held in Trenton and Paterson following the close of registration. ### Photos and audio and video clips from Governor McGreevey's press conferences are available in the Office of the Governor section on the State of New Jersey web page, <http://www.nj.gov/> http://www.nj.gov/.
  7. I just got a cache approved today. Thank you NJADMIN for being patient on that and for your help. Here, There, Avroair! The situation is this. Another cacher lets call them Team Bam Bam was lurking around the park where stage 1 is located while trying to sneak a cahce in my backyard. While searching for his hiding spot, he found stage 1. He recognized the container and hand writing, which led to a call. He called me less than 10 minutes after the cache went active and asked what he had found. I explained that it was called a GEOCACHE He then skulked about my having stolen his hiding spot.. Aw too bad..... Anyway, before anyone gets the idea that I tipped him off, I just wanted to post a little self promotion and let everyone else take a crack at it. Hurry, you might be able to beat him. Those of you who know the special relation between him and myself know I would never tip him off. If I did, I would have likely given him bogus coordinates anyway. All that being said, go check it out for yourself. Here, There, Avroair! I guarantee Bam Bam wont take much, most of the swag is stolen from his house anyway!
  8. Are you sure about that? I remeber seeing porta pottys when I last cleared that park. d@mn you locals restocking the park! They could have also been temporary for the softball fields nearby.
  9. I posted a note with a link to this forum on the cache page. That should get their attention. Thanks for finding the cache. Don't forget to log it, and welcome to geocaching. Most of the caches are just as easy to find... Especially BrianSnat's Edit: Spell check
  10. Mopar - If you are definitely going for this, please let me know. Otherwise, I will head up Saturday morning. No need to go out of your way. Besides the reward is only an unactivated TB. No, you can keep the travel bug. I DO need the Turkey Trot bug though. Since it is a pretty easy trip across the Tappan Zee from where I am, I'll just run up and grab it, unless Mopar can commit grabbing it.
  11. Mopar - If you are definitely going for this, please let me know. Otherwise, I will head up Saturday morning.
  12. About a 49-mile drive. I've seen you do worse. Brian, if you don't get any other responders, I will go on Saturday. I will bring it back to the Ramapo area as I re-check try to get approval of my cache a third time. Just let me know if you have any word on someone else picking it up.
  13. Hey, isn't that on Floopy's way to work?
  14. Congratulations! It was a pleasure meeting you at the Floopy event
  15. A hearty congratulations from our gang to yours!
  16. Um, as a native of NJ who spent a little time in MA, I think that it is best to leave those people in their own little world. Until marrying my wife (a native Cape Codder), I had never thought of New Jersey as "down south". Now I would normally agree with you that New England is about as far up and east as you can go, but my wife still insists that we go "down to the cape" to visit her family. Therefore, by their own admission, they must be below us right? And we retain the title of "Northeast".... don't even get me started on what Philly considers the "northeast". Those folks are really messed up.
  17. I just want to say Congratulations again to StayFloopy. I am also one of the small group of people left to see BOTH Hartclimbs and Briansnat in the same room at the same time. They are apparently not the same person. Who knew?
  18. Alright, I got the info I needed here. Thanks for all of you that helped out. I am going to close this topic out.
  19. TBB- did you actually bring your GPS this time?
  20. Now, Now... not all of us have cleaned out the existing caches on the eastern seaboard. Actually, in my case, I failed to download the day before's Pocket Query and therefore, missed a newly placed cache within my hiding area. This is something I need to rectify, but I have to spend the evening elsewhere.... something about an event cache somewhere...
  21. The thing is...I do respect the approvers. I only feared that with the system crash last week, that my cache was lost in the shuffle. I waited 6 days and posted a reviewer note asking the status. I got no response, so on day 8, I started asking here. I mean no disrepect. I thank all the approvers for their dedication and service. I was only wondering if I was the only one, or if there was a backup for everyone. If the approver was on vacation and all the caches were on hold, that would have been OK, I just wanted to know if anyone else was still pending. Needless to say, I have my answer. My cache needs to be tweaked and will be active soon. Some stages were a little too close to someone else's cache
  22. I didn't mean to start an argument. I really appreciate that Keystone looked into it for me. The only guidance I had to go by was the 2-3 days claimed on the cache listing page. I will be patient. The only real worry I had was that the system was down at one point last week. I just wanted to make sure that my cahe review response was not lost. In response to your recommendation, this is BOTH a puzzle and multi-cache. At your suggestion, I will change the cache type. Is there a guideline for which type takes precident in this case? I used a multi classification only because it is a multi in two distinct locations. I really do appreciate your help.
  23. Has anybody had a cache approved in NJ this week? I hid and posted a cache on Sunday the 26th. I have not heard anything from NJ Admin. Nothing good, nothing bad, just nothing. I know of one other cache in the general vicinity of mine, but it is definitely outside of the 0.1 mile guideline radius. I know the servers were down last week at one point, so I posted a reviewer note to try and draw attention to the fact that the cache is there, and awaiting approval. That note was posted Friday. Today is 8 days out from hiding. I suspect NJAdmin might be on vacation and am just curious to know if anyone else has had a problem this week.
