  1. Sadly , two of our caches have recently been muggled. We have replaced both caches today, but in slightly different locations. One is approx 20m from the original location, the other is over 100m. Should we simply change the co-ordinates of the existing caches, or list brand new caches?
  2. Thanks to everyone here for their comments. From all the comments, links, images (and e-mails received) I have concluded that it is NOT Giant Hogweed that we are dealing with near our cache, but I will put a warning on the main description, just in case. The main reason I am convinced is that Giant Hogweed is obviously reddish and the plants we saw do not have even a hint of red. Also, Giant Hogweed looks quite imposing and stands out in the crowd, but the plants we saw were meek and mingled easily amongst the other vegetation! Hurrah for Common Hogweed!
  3. A cacher recently reported Giant Hogweed in their log whilst looking for one of our caches :- http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...c3-e271b5ab9aa1 We visited the area, and whilst the cache itself is free of the plant in question, the local area does have a lot of this particular plant. Can anyone confirm for definite whether this is Giant Hogweed? I have added a couple of images here:- http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...5a-188b7646be9d I took quite a few pictures, so if anyone is a keen botanist and needs another picture or two to be sure, let me know. Many Thanks!
  4. Here are a couple of pictures of Leeds city centre (25th June), courtesy of a family member:-
  5. You can add my vote for the OS Grid Refs. We found our first 20 or so caches solely using these before buying a GPS unit. We would probably have not got into caching had we been faced simply with a GPS co-ordinate at our first attempt.
  6. Thanks folks, seems blindingly obvious now! Might as well close this discussion Mr Moderator. Thanks.
  7. www.itsnotaboutthenumbers.com What is the difference between:- Consecutive Days With a Find and.. Consecutive Days With a Find (Active Streaks) ? It seems strange that only 4 UK cachers have ever done what it takes to be recorded in the 'Active Streaks' section. What is an Active Streak? (apart from the flesh-revealing obvious)
  8. Hi Red - without sufficient funds we would not have a server on which to have this discussion, or a server on which to store all the lovely cache pages.
  9. Does anyone know what percentage of geocachers are Premium Members? If it's only 20%* for example, then the introduction of a lower membership fee but for all users would be very realistic and would generate the additional funds required to keep our hobby alive. 20% of cachers paying $30, or 100% of cachers paying $10. Who would grumble at $10* per year (approx £5)? *Complete guesswork!
  10. After the recent floodings (and with threats of more to come?!), I was wondering how many caches we might have lost, or be at risk of losing in the UK. This was discussed briefly earlier this year [ HERE ]. Does anyone have any interesting stories of losing a cache, finding a cache related to flooding / wet weather? Also, having found a BBC guide [ HERE ]; for a bit of fun can anyone suggest a similar (satirical) guide for Geocaching? Here's a starter for 10:- Step One - Moving into a Flood Risk Area Check the local area for floating tupperware boxes or ammo cans. Make sure you have adequate cache container and contents insurance cover. Step Two - What you should do before a flood Make up a flood kit - including wellies, spare logbook and pen, a torch (for cave related floodings), blankets (to warm the little TBs after a flood), waterproof clothing (for the TBs of course), rubber gloves (kinky!), a fishing net (to grab floaters as they pass by), and a hairdryer (to dry TBs out after a flood). Over to you....... But seriously - be safe!
  11. Badger finally rips his undercarriage off after pushing it up one too many backpassages ! Congratulations - a massive achievement! (the cache finding - not the undercarriage lossage!) - This isn't a caption suggestion!
  12. What an excellent review! Thanks for taking the time to write this.
  13. Wow - you're off to a flying start - 18 caches in your first 5 days, that's great. Took us over 3 years to reach number 18 Good luck leaving your first cache!
  14. We use rechargeable batteries, but more importantly, we use a solar-powered battery charger - it's fantastic, and will help save the planet! http://www.batteryplanet.co.uk - Sell a good selection of these devices.
  15. When I wanted to know the best sex position for making ugly babies, I had to ask your Mum!
  16. I think I have missed something What new look? I hate missing out on stuff! Visit any cache page and click on the Geocaching Google Maps link next to the rubbish default map. Theres new icons and bubbles that show if you have found the cache or not. LINK <Edit - Link added> Wow - Thanks. I never even knew these maps existed. Great!
  17. I think the minor upgrade is fantastic - I love the way the images are now displayed; very posh. And it all seems a little bit faster, let's see what it's like on Sunday afternoon!
  18. One of our TBs has gone missing from the first cache we placed it in (the cache itself is lost - from the cache history it looks like we may be to blame , even though we hid the cache as well as we could). We have now found an identical TB item, attached the COPY TB tag, and added an interesting story to the TB homepage explain why a 'new' TB has been released:- Max / MAD Max
  19. Perhaps as part of their driving examination, new drivers should be assessed on their ability to use a satnav without being distracted. Or, should all drivers sit an IQ test? Or, perhaps the law banning the use of mobile phones whilst driving should be expanded to include satnavs and other annoying electronic gadgets?
  20. We have an eTrex Legend, and noticed recently that when driving down the M1, the map showed us driving in the middle of a field about half a mile away! This might be related to the topic discussed here?
